Are You A Computer Addict?

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

A friend of mine sent me an email with these pictures - just too funny. Comments are mine.

Nooooo, I need the computer!

Let's hope he washes his hands after using the keyboard.

And you thought pillow wrinkles were bad.

In my day, we'd put the books under the pillows and pretend we could absorb it in our sleep.

I don't even whan to know how little fiber he gets a day.

addicts in training

It's dad's turn to watch the baby

If only this guy had the computer in the john, he'd never have to leave

This is just too sad ...

Computer addicts never die...they just go offline.

I just had to add this one:

Loved the office in the John. That is a classic.
Had a friend who at 35 still with his folks, had 3 desktop computers in his bedroom, an air conditioner, air cleaner, ceiling fan, and a surround sound stereo entertainment system that was constantly on. All in a 12 by 12 room. Scary....very scary.

Counting Steps

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Yesterday, I blogged about trying the elliptical at the gym. I tried it today for 40 minutes - 2 miles. It really pushes my heart rate up, but it doesn't seem too hard. I actually go slower than I feel like I could, because the machine is telling me my heart rate is too high. My friend LindaKay suggested I clip my pedometer to the hem of my shorts - it seemed to count more steps that way.

Walked the pups this evening, after it got cooler again. They were really eager to walk. I have new neighbors moving in next door - of course, both pups went rabid barking. I keep telling them "No one is afraid of you!"

Along the walk, there are patches of high grass from all the rain recently. Both pups get into it and sniff like crazy - some of it's over their heads!

yippee great idea to clip pedometer to shorts, now you can get credit for your steps

I love the pictures! I have a yorkie that thinks he has to sniff and growl and bark and throw gravel in the air to show how tough he is.

Glad it worked. I can't remember who I got the tip from but I can't take the credit for coming up with it on my own!

Trying New Equipment @ Gym

Sunday, August 29, 2010

I automatically got on the treadmill when I got to the gym, but I remembered to set it for 2 miles instead of 4. Wore my knee wraps and they felt pretty good. Then ... the elliptical. I had tried it in the past, but prefer the treadmill. On the treadmill, my steps are counted 1:1. They are more like 2:1, 3:1? with the elliptical. It may not have counted all my steps, but it pushed my heart rate up higher than the treadmill did.

Took the pups on their 1.5 mile walk and pushed my steps above 10K. It was getting cloudy, so it was pleasantly mild. Looks like it might rain later, tho.

Sometimes, we need a little motivation to work out.

Someone said that if you clip the pedometer to the hem of your shorts, if you wear shorts, it counts elliptical steps better. I tried it once and it did seem to work better but then haven't been on the elliptical since I hurt my hip.
My gym also has a machine that you pedal with your hands like a bike but pedals are at shoulder height. It has settings to increase intensity and and even has a hill climbing setting. Gives me a great cardio workout! It doesn't count the steps though but it does count mileage so you could probably just convert the mileage on the elliptical or a machine like I mentioned by figuring the average of 2000 steps per mile.
Have a great day!

Saturday Night, and I Ain't Got Nobody

Sunday, August 29, 2010

I got home this morning, started watching a stupid movie on SciFi channel (the world is going to end - solar flares will set the ozone layer on fire!!! Too much methane gas - ah-yee!!!) It was one of those so bad, I couldn't drag myself away. Got to sleep about noon - up at 1600 (4P) to potty the pups and staggered back to bed. Up again around 2000 (8P) - it's raining again. About 2100 (9P), it was dry enough to walk the pups. They had to sniff and remark everything after the rain. It made for a slow walk, but I got in stretches and lunges while they paused.

I haven't seen the stray budgie in my yard for a couple of weeks. Don't know if he flew off, died, got caught ... I hope he's doing OK. My 2 budgies are still cowering in fear from me. I talk to them, clean their cages, and try to move slowly. They cringe, flap, and squawk. Sigh.

Just some more funnies:

The tissue paper one reminded me of the little dog a friend of mine got from the animal shelter a few weeks ago. She is 2 1/2 or 3 years old so she's pretty well behaved. But the other night he said that he forgot and left a box of kleenex down low and the next morning the kleenex and the box were all destroyed and everywhere.

Friday Night IS My Friday

Saturday, August 28, 2010

I know, sounds strange. When you work shifts, not M-F, we ask each other all the time "Is this your Friday?" - meaning the last shift of the stretch. Usually, Fridays are my Thursdays - I have one more shift to go. (We also ask "Is this your Monday?") This week, for a change - Friday is my Friday.

I liked sleeping in early yesterday, and walking the pups in the evening - so I did it again today. Got off at my usual time, and was in bed by 09 - up @ 1700 (5P). Took Samurai & Shalako for a 35 minutes walk around the blocks.

Sooo glad I'm off tomorrow. I've been resting my knees since I haven't been hitting the treadmill since Tuesday. They're getting a little better every day. Maybe I should try the stationary bike or elliptical - I'm just always wanting the steps to count, and they don't on the bike or elliptical.

Woo-hoo! As I was casually doing my blog, a patient in a cardiac emergency (V-tach) came in - we all ran over, got him hooked up to the monitors, got lines and meds in him. Doing pretty well now - so I went back to my less ill patients. It's exciting when things work out right. Didn't have to code him (do CPR).

the kitty pictute is cute and funny. Your dogs are very cute - that is great that you are able to walk with your dogs. My sister does her walking in the morning with her dog and is able to do an hour, but she is in good shape.

Keep up the good work and when your knees feel better take it a little at a time to start up again. emoticon emoticon
