We're Having A Heatwave

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

Awake again all night - grrr! Slept from 8 til past noon. Nothing like sleeping thru the cooler part of the day. Duh. I did manage to water the plants in the morning.

Went to the gym @ 1800 (6P) and did my workout. Walked the pups when I got back.

The early heat wave is almost over - the next couple of days are projected to be like 98 and 97, then it will drop off to the high 80's. Cold snap!

Meanwhile, my mind is on my virtual vacation. Yes, I'm on vacation, but I'm staying home. I'm not really bored, yet ...

I used to SCUBA dive a lifetime ago

Sorry for your melt-wave hon. It's too hot too early.

Why can't we be on a virtual vacation all the time? It would be a great perspective, wouldn't it?

Out-Foxed Myself

Sunday, June 06, 2010

So, I slept poorly last night, having slept the day before until noon. Read until I dropped my kindle. Fell asleep about 0500 and up at 0730. Ping! Awake (for a while)

Got dressed and went out for breakfast. I went to the Village Inn, and had the veggie omlette with multigrain pancakes, small fruit bowl. Believe it or not, I packed half of it away to take home ... in my previous life, I would have eaten that for breakfast, maybe pizza for lunch. Nibble, nibble, nom, nom, nom.

Did a little shopping - got the Primal frozen dog food I like for the pups, and the dry cat food from Long Leash for Life. Hit Office Depot for a all-in-one-printer that was on sale. When I upgraded my computer a few months ago, the AIO I had lost its driver. I've downloaded the driver from Dell umpteen times - still not working. Aargh!

Anyway, by the time I got home, it was nearly 95 outside. Cleverly, I thought, I decided to take a nap and walk the pups in the relative coolth of the evening. (I think "coolth" should be a word, like "warmth". Whatcha think?) It was supposed to be over 100 again, and the evening was supposed to be in the 80's.

Oops! One problem - I hadn't known thunderstorms were moving in. Ka-BOOM!

So, it's 2130 (9:30P) and I have 4K steps on my pedometer. Choices - do the walking DVD, or hope the rain stops and take the pups out. Door #2, please! It's supposed to stop drizzling soon (if it hasn't already since I've been online). Pups need the walk, and they like to mark their territory. Have to laugh when either of them bends their necks back or stands on hind legs to sniff a bush - then confidently pees 2 inches from the ground. There! I marked it. I think this is what they need to do -

Update: We did a nice hour's walk - got my 10K total steps done. Sprinkled ever so lightly about halfway thru the walk, but not really raining.

I hadn't counted on rain yesterday either and went up into the forest for a little hike. Got rained on some which actually felt good but was in a hurry to get back to the car because of the thunder rumbling and the risk of lightening. It was not predicted yesterday'1!! It's predicted for this afternoon but doesn't even look like it's close to becoming a reality!

So did you get in your walk last night. I could see the lightning storm from my house, it was awesome, but I did not get any rain, but sure could smell the moisture. Maybe today?

Early Start to Vacation

Saturday, June 05, 2010

We started the shift with only 3 nurses - we usually have 4 on evenings, but one was sick. Called my buddy in early - it was her short night and she was due in at 2330 (1130P) - she made it in by 2230 (1030P). An hour later, another night nurse showed up - we didn't have the schedule book, so we didn't expect her. Now, 3 may be short for evenings, but it's plush for night shift. Relatively over-staffed, full complement of techs and a clerk - few patients - guess who volunteered to start vacation a few hours early? Me!!!!

Got home, read some, fed the critters at 0500, and finally went to sleep. Everytime I stirred, the pups and kits were eager to see if I was ready to get up. Got up at noon.

Made it to the gym, did 2.5 miles on the treadmill and the strength circuit. It was about 100 out there, so I decided to wait on walking the pups until it's cooler this evening. Whew - got several days of 100+ coming up - that's early this year.

Yeah this unexpected heat wave is a killer. 2 weeks ago or less I was wearing a light jacket if I went out walking at 6:30 am cause it was still a little cool that early. Definitely not now!!!!

Enjoy your vacation!

Normal Day

Friday, June 04, 2010

We were talking at work last night about how fast time seems to be going by - the day and nights blend into one another, unless something radical happens (good or bad) to make them stand out. Just anpther day, someone said ...

My mother used to have this in an embroidery on her wall

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are… Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect Tomorrow. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in my pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. - Mary Jean Iron

Looking on the internet, I found more "normal day" quotes and poems.

Remember when Y2K was going to be such problem? 10 years gone and we're still ticking along.

It is so hard to believe that all the y2k scare is already 10 years behind us and now the hot topic in some areas is the 2012 end of the world! Yeah. We'll see. Not too worried about that one.

Two Days Until Vacation

Friday, June 04, 2010

I can do this. I can. I have an intoxicated patient that came in by ambulance for chest pain. Every couple of minutes, he asks "Can I go home?" The answer is "no" - until we've gotten 2 negative cardiac tests back. He's kind of a funny drunk - not yelling obscenities at us. I've been joking with him - "don't make me let loose the flying monkeys!" I can see it will be a long night, if he doesn't just go to sleep.

Two more nights, and my vacation starts - I have plans to work in the garden, do some minor house repairs, etc. Getting hot here in Albuquerque - weather dudes predict we'll hit 100 this weekend. Sheesh! emoticon emoticon

Everybody have a great night & day!
