Early Start to Vacation

Saturday, June 05, 2010

We started the shift with only 3 nurses - we usually have 4 on evenings, but one was sick. Called my buddy in early - it was her short night and she was due in at 2330 (1130P) - she made it in by 2230 (1030P). An hour later, another night nurse showed up - we didn't have the schedule book, so we didn't expect her. Now, 3 may be short for evenings, but it's plush for night shift. Relatively over-staffed, full complement of techs and a clerk - few patients - guess who volunteered to start vacation a few hours early? Me!!!!

Got home, read some, fed the critters at 0500, and finally went to sleep. Everytime I stirred, the pups and kits were eager to see if I was ready to get up. Got up at noon.

Made it to the gym, did 2.5 miles on the treadmill and the strength circuit. It was about 100 out there, so I decided to wait on walking the pups until it's cooler this evening. Whew - got several days of 100+ coming up - that's early this year.

Yeah this unexpected heat wave is a killer. 2 weeks ago or less I was wearing a light jacket if I went out walking at 6:30 am cause it was still a little cool that early. Definitely not now!!!!

Enjoy your vacation!

Normal Day

Friday, June 04, 2010

We were talking at work last night about how fast time seems to be going by - the day and nights blend into one another, unless something radical happens (good or bad) to make them stand out. Just anpther day, someone said ...

My mother used to have this in an embroidery on her wall

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are… Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect Tomorrow. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in my pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. - Mary Jean Iron

Looking on the internet, I found more "normal day" quotes and poems.

Remember when Y2K was going to be such problem? 10 years gone and we're still ticking along.

It is so hard to believe that all the y2k scare is already 10 years behind us and now the hot topic in some areas is the 2012 end of the world! Yeah. We'll see. Not too worried about that one.

Two Days Until Vacation

Friday, June 04, 2010

I can do this. I can. I have an intoxicated patient that came in by ambulance for chest pain. Every couple of minutes, he asks "Can I go home?" The answer is "no" - until we've gotten 2 negative cardiac tests back. He's kind of a funny drunk - not yelling obscenities at us. I've been joking with him - "don't make me let loose the flying monkeys!" I can see it will be a long night, if he doesn't just go to sleep.

Two more nights, and my vacation starts - I have plans to work in the garden, do some minor house repairs, etc. Getting hot here in Albuquerque - weather dudes predict we'll hit 100 this weekend. Sheesh! emoticon emoticon

Everybody have a great night & day!

If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance. ~Bern Williams

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time. ~John Lubbock

To me June is also less traffic because the kids are out of school, LOL No buses to wait forever behind when they are unloading. No 20 mph zones to slow me down. Reduced pricing on produce. Reduced energy bill. And the beginning of sweltering temps. LOL

Hugs
