Confusion sets in

Ok, I have been working out hard since I started this, have lost minimal amounts of weight. Last Friday I was exhausted after having a rough night with the kids so I didn't work out. Saturday I was exhausted from having 2 kids keep me up all night. I get on the scale, hadn't worked out on Friday, and I lost .7 lbs emoticon I didn't work out Saturday either, Sunday morning the scale said a weight loss of .6 lbs emoticon Didn't work out Sunday, weighed Monday morning and lost 1.1 lb. emoticon Now, 3 days in a row makes it more than a fluke. I was scared to work out yesterday but I did anyway. Worked out for 75 min, light aerobic and strength.

Lo and behold, this morning, after working out yesterday, get on the scale, I've gained .2 lbs. Now WHY am I gaining when I'm working out!! Makes it difficult to keep working out when that happens! I've just started a fun new challenge, I don't want to drop out, but I also don't wanna keep holding onto this weight!

And for the record, I've had NO supply issues with my nursing.

    Thanks for all the comments. Yes, I am a scale watcher, I always have been and it keeps me on track. I've gone a week without getting on it and my weight skyrockets. It keeps me on track. Also, with doing it daily, I can see my pattern. When that pattern gets on center a bit then I look at why, what did I do or didn't do the day before. When it continues off kilter for a few days, than I try to repeat whatever I've been doing, or haven't been doing.

And the tape measure, It's also not a good guide for me. I must be losing in places I'm not measuring because in 10 lbs lost I've only lost 3/4" all over: chest, waist, hips, thighs and arms. I did lose 1/4" around my neck, but that was in the first 2 weeks. It's been the same since. So I'm not sure where I'm losing it, honestly, can't tell a difference in my clothes either.

But I do thank you for the comments! keep them coming, even if I do appear to be stubborn about the scale :)

    I was a scale watcher too. Well truth to tell I still am at times. I think I must be addicted.

But I know now it is not a good guide to anything.

It just drives me nuts. When I lose Im excstatic and when Im up it puts me in a low mood for the day.

I am going to put them away altogether, because I am now focussing on eating healthy, drinking my water and doing the exercising I am able to.

I am feeling good about myself because these are things I can do daily. emoticon

    Oh no! You are watching the scale. I know you want this more than ever. But if you watch that scale like that it will bum you out big time. Measurements is better. You should only weighing yourself once a week.

The key is to get all the nutrients your body needs, keeping up with the water. Water aids in weight loss by the way. Most important is exercise consistanly yeah if you watch that scale it will jump up and down till your droven insane and give up. We don't want that, so revisit what your doing. The weight will come off that is the added bonus in this. You are concentrating on getting healthy.

    Also consider if you are getting enough calories. Recently I've increased my calories, and now finally my weight is dropping. Before I was in a plateau that lasted for ever(or so it seemed). I was dropping only minutely, or gaining. Very frustrating, I know. Your body might be clinging onto everything you are giving it, including fluids at the moment. Try revisting your nutritional and fitness goals, and see if it helps. And yes, tape measures are so great. I would rely on one for a bit, and put the scales away. Hope things improve for you soon.     I agree with wendy she gave you good advice. Our weight does jump around and I am talking from experience, get that tape out and measure because with exercise you are also toning and you will lose inches.

    I did the same thing this past week. I couldnt believe that I was going down when I wasnt working out or anything. I think part of it may be your body needs the rest and allows things to catch up. I know that for me when I work out I retain alot of fluid. My fingers and legs swell, sometimes a little sometimes alot. This is why when I have a weigh in for the competion I am in I dont work at least the day before if not two days before. Just a thought, may be water retention.

Forget the scale for awhile and try taking your measurements. My weight jumps around when I exercise a lot too. BUT the tape measure doesn't lie! :) It's not a number that should make us happy. It's how we look and how we feel... can you tell the difference?

    Don't beat yourself up. You CAN do this! Don't forget that muscle ways more than fat. That is probably why you are gaining instead of losing. Don't weigh yourself so much. Just weigh in on the same day of the week at the same time. I find it easier for me to weigh in once a month. I was driving myself crazy worrying about every little fluctuation in my weight. I started LOSING weight when I stopped stressing about what was on the scale. Take it all in stride. You can do this! Good Luck! emoticon

So slow!

It is really going slow loosing the weight because I'm nursing and some days I really have to push hard to do anything. I know it's best for the babe but some days I feel very selfish and just want this weight OFF and think about how nice it will be when I quit!

I should be glad I'm actually loosing this time around, I normally gain 5-10 lbs while nursing. I'm so hungry all the time. So the fact I'm loosing should be great motivation. Even if it IS taking forever to loose 1 lbs. I'm ok with loosing slowly, but why can't it be the 1-2 lbs a week that's recommended. It's more like .5 lbs a week. I've been doing this hard since Christmas and only lost 7 lbs. I get a low weight and the next day I jump up a lb and it takes me 4-5 days to get back down to the low weight. I just don't understand and get very frustrated! And I'm so tired!!!!! He still isn't sleeping thru the night, most night's I'm up 2-3x. So my body is tired, well, frankly, *I* am tired. very very tired!

But I think tonight I saw that maybe my legs look a little different. My clothes all still fit the same. And coming off of a birth 4 months ago it's hard to see what is baby-shape coming off and what is weight coming off. But my legs, they seemed like maybe they weren't as big as they used to be around my knees. That gives me a little motivation to get up and go tomorrow. Goodness knows I need the motivation some days!

    I do know what you are going through.

Did you have a chance to look at the link I posted to you on the Breastfeeding moms team? There is alot of info there that will help.
One very important thing is making sure you get enough calories. So many people think "less is better... and will loose more weight" when actually that is not the case. As a breastfeeding mother, your body needs an extra 500 calories every day above what SP sets for you.

My youngest son was up every 2-3 hours ALL night (and only took two 20minute naps all day)... this lasted for 8 LONG months. I was as exhausted as could be. I had NO energy to "workout" and would rather rest when given a moment to rest... but I had to finally force myself to just do "something" I ended up with the motto "just do it". Too tired? "just do it"... don't feel like it? "just do it" ect. I literally had to keep saying those words every day to myself "just do it" "just do it" "just do it".... I must say, one the days I did "just do it", even when I did NOT want to, I always felt more energized afterwards... and as I started seeing results, the more I wanted to "just do it".

    I really don't know how to answer you as I wasn't able to breast feed my boys due to health issues. But there is some things you can do I don't know if your watching your sodium,fiber, protein, getting enough water, etc. But all of this will play a great part in weight loss. Our bodies require certain amount of daily minerals to function. It also aids in weight loss as well.

I do want to direct you to a person that is a leader on one of my teams called Spark Power. She breast feeds her babys as well and has struggle with this in the past. I know she would be a great help to you also. She is also a leader for breast feeding moms team. Her nick is CORINA-MOMOF4.     Keep up the good work! Every little bit counts. When your body is tired it is even harder to lose. I was always a gainer while nursing so I know how you feel. It can be frustrating as all get out. But be encouraged because you ARE making progress and that's the goal. Good for you!!!!
