Update + Weigh in + Measurements

So I've been AWOL for a week and a half. Of course, that is directly linked to the fact that I had a bad week last week, and put back on a kg.
I didn't want to admit it, to anyone, but specifically I didn't want to admit it to myself. That would mean I was getting back to old habits.
We got take-out twice last week, and one of those was KFC. I did my old trick with a bag of chips. Plus, I had lest vegetables with dinner the rest of the week.
This is exactly the kind of thing that got me overweight in the first place. If I hadn't still been walking my daughter to preschool, I probably would have put it all back on.
But now I'm getting back on track, which brings me to this weeks Weigh in: 82.4
I've dropped the kg again plus another 600g which is good.
I also discovered that I missed my monthly measurements update last week, so I did them today, and boy was I surprised.
I have lost13 cm from my waist, 6 cm from my hips, and 3.5 cm from my thighs.

    I am always amazed by the ability of fellow sparkers to be brutally honest. Your openness is a testament to your strength!     Well I guess that just shows that weight isn't everything! Those measurements are FANTASTIC! Well done! Hoorah for the walks to school!
Kept it up that's a great effort - despite losing the plot for a week! Sometimes a wee blow out is just what we need!

I don't drive. Not because I don't have a car, even though I don't (though my partner does), and not because I can't, cos I have driven before, and owned cars.
The reason I don't drive is because it freaks me out, but that's something for a different post.
The point I'm coming to is that since I don't drive that means I have to either walk, bus, taxi or get a ride from someone. Since I'm not made of money taxis are out. Buses can be can be unreliable, don't always go to where you want, or aren't necessary for shorter distances, so they're out more often that not. And I don't think it's fair on my friends to always be asking them for rides, so I don't really ask for them unless it's important or an emergency.
That leaves walking. And like I have previously mentioned in other blog posts with walking my daughter to pre-school and back that equates to about 2 hours walking a day, 3 days a week.
This is something I have to do. I have to take her to pre-school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. And I have to pick her up in the afternoons as well. No matter what, that is what I do.
The only bad thing is that I even have to do it when it's cold, wet and windy.

Then again..... Who could ask for better motivation to keep up the exercise?

I can't give in to any excuses; "I'm too tired", "It's too cold and/or wet outside", "I just can't be bothered today", "I have a wee bit of a sore foot". I can't let the excuses win because then I would be letting my daughter down, and hampering her education.

In another 7 months she will be starting primary school (OMG that is getting too close), and then I will be walking her there 5 days a week. Sure, it probably wont be as far as I walk now, but something is better than nothing.

Now if only I could apply that kind of motivation to other aspects of my life.

    I walk as much as possible, as I don't have a car and cannot drive. And, btw, 7km isn't that far. My friend walks that daily to and from work, and he makes the trip home and to work a few times a day. I love walking, when there's a purpose, or with company. It's great exercise, it's free, and I love walking on wet and windy days, down by the water, watching the waves come up over the wall. It's a 2.2km round trip for me from home/work and back, and that's only 25 minutes or less of my time :). I can only imagine the distance you're covering in that length of time for your walks!

    I wish I could walk to work, but 7km with a laptop is a little far! that is such a superb way of getting in exercise! I loved doing the same when I stayed at my sisters, walked the kids and the dog to school!

    I also don't have a car, and I bike pretty much everywhere no matter what the weather. But today I was leaving for work and found a flat tire so had to walk in the storm and begged a ride home, because dark and stormy for a 30min walk is much worse than dark and stormy for a 10 min bike ride.
So many SP seem to have problems getting ANY expercise, for people like you and me we have a baseline of daily exercise just for going through our lives and that puts us ahead of the game in terms of health and fitness.

Time to say goodbye, and hello

When I signed up to SP I had about 50 lb to lose. But since I have lost 5kg (11lb) in the last 5 weeks, it is now time to say goodbye to the "20 somethings with 50-99 pounds to lose" team. It has been great to get to know some of the people in that team, and thanks for all your support.
I'm not going far away though, just moving on to the "20 somethings with 25 - 49 pounds to lose" team. Hopefully there will be just as much support those guys.

Weekly Weigh In: I finally did it!

Gee, it's been a week since my last post, I'm getting rather slack.

So a little update before I get to the best part of this post.
I seem to be addicted to the end of season clearance sales at The Warehouse. Every day I take my daughter to pre-school I pop in on the way home, searching those racks. Got a few good deals for myself and my daughter. Unfortunately, they didn't really have anything there for men, so my poor partner was left out lol. Though, I did get him some socks, which he sorely needed. What is it with men and wearing through sock so quick.

And now onto the main event: Weekly Weigh In

As of this morning I weigh.... 82.8 kg!
I finally got to my first goal and have lost 5.2 kg in the 5 weeks I have been with SP so far.
I'm really excited about that, and I feel great.
There are, however, a few things I need to work on, but I'll work on them one at a time.

So yay, first goal down! I'm quarter of the way to my main goal.
Next goal: 78 kg, and out of the 80s.

1 month SparkVersary, Weigh-in, and a kick in the pants

So the official weekly weigh-in and I'm now 83.7 kgs. That 1.1 kgs down from last week. Although I'm pretty sure I could have cracked my first weight goal (83 kgs) if it hadn't been for the carb binging, I have to admit over 1 kg in a week is pretty good for me, better than the previous week I think. So yay for that.

And in that month I have not eaten junk food for the most part, met some great Sparkers, and started on the right track to a healthier life. I'm looking forward to what the next month brings, and the ones after that.

The universe gave me a kick in the pants this morning. I was at the Warehouse on the way back from dropping my daughter at pre-school as I usually do on a Thursday, and what greets me right in the door? 3 racks of clearance clothing, that had been reduced to $5 a piece. And what was among those clothes? Workout clothes.
It's as if the universe had got sick of the whining and complaining I was doing last night and said "here, you've been thinking about getting some of these for weeks, just get them and get on with it!"
$10 for a singlet with built in support, AND a cooldry top with mp3 pocket? Yes please.
As well as that, this month happens to be NZ book month, and everyone got a couple of vouches that entitles you to $5 off any book over $10 at most of the places that sell books. So for the grand total of $6.99 I got myself the New Zealand Calorie Counter. I know it doesn't include stuff like how much fat, sugars, and protein are in the foods, but calories is always a good place to start.
To me the only let down of the SP tracker is that there are hardly any NZ foods on there, it's hard when you have to go through each package you have and write everything in, and even harder when they don't come in proper packaging. So now I have no excuse.

All-in-all, it was a very productive morning. The rest of the day holds another walk to pick my daughter up from pre-school, and dinner at my friends place for her birthday (I don't think there will be much problem with food there as she is quite a healthy eater, even when she's pregnant lol).

    Great weight loss!
I have been adding a whole bunch of foods in as I go, as have had the same problem. I save the foods as my favorites as well to make it a bit easier. So if you see any NZ stuff in there from MICROGIRLIE that's my contribution!
