Great suggestions from Spark friends, thanks so much for helping ....

Saturday, November 03, 2012

We had a huge supply of Halloween candy, and only got 4 kids at the door due to the freezing cold weather ........ minus 8 with a good strong wind, snow on the ground already, SHEESH !!!

As a result, I was left with tons of goodies that I don't want around as they are too tempting. I have been more than very good, I never ate one single thing, and I used to be a chocoholic, so I am extremely proud of myself.

Several of my friends on here suggested I donate to a Food Bank, and that is what I did. I also donated some to the children's ward at our local hospital for the poor little ones that weren't able to have Halloween and are approved to eat the candy (that was a suggestion from a co-worker, thought I'd pass it on for others if they are looking to rid themselves of the 'heavy weight' in the bags)

I feel much better now, and know I made some children happier and not put on a single ounce since I tested my will power and passed the test.

I live in a condo, so no candy given out here. That helps me, but when I go to family functions, they have a bowl sitting out. I pass it up, most of the time. Great idea to give it away, when the trick or treat night is over and not have it around. When I worked, people always brought it in to work when they had left overs. I remember, pulling out my apple or greek yogurt , when I saw it. nutrition in it, empty wasted......calories...I always tell myself this when ready to buy any at the grocer. Keep up the great job and Keep eating healthy!!

This is truly an example of helping others helps us more. emoticon for staying away from the temptation of the extra candy. That was a wonderful thing you did. Those are some great ideas to practice.! Perhaps even on an 'average" day. Thank you for sharing! emoticon

That is such a good idea and I'm so proud of you! We had 3 kids plus the parents, neighbors of ours, so I just had them pick out all they wanted and that way I got rid of alot. I even had the parents to really be greedy! ha! I saw your blog on the side of Temptation Busters and decided to look up your blog! That is so cool of you and you have good, solid discipline! That's a good feeling, isn't it?! You can do it now after accomplishing all that! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Great ideas! I'll have to remember them for next year. I had my boyfriend take our leftoverd to work, I was going to take them to work myself but figured I'd just be tempting myself in a different place!

What's up with 4 kids showing up for Halloween !!?? My goodness, resulted in too many leftovers

Thursday, November 01, 2012

Yep, 4 kids, that's it., between my daughter and myself, we have a box of 50 bags of chips, 6 boxes of chocolate bars -- anywhere from 80 - 100 in each box!

It was 8 below with one wicked wind last night, so I suspect that has something to do with our 'huge crowd' of candy lovers.

Even my granddaughter only went out for 45 minutes at the most and had enough after this short time. I can understand in her case however, Grandma has so much, it's just too much trouble to bother going door to door.

Oh, well, done for another year, I will hide the stuff away ..... out of sight = out of mind HOPEFULLY. There is always stuff for Christmas I suppose, my parents come to stay usually for about 10 days, my Dad can clean out a bowl of candy in record speed .... believe me, I've seen it!!

Hope you all had a great Halloween and don't eat too many leftovers! I can't believe I ate none of it, not one little bite, Wow I am really commuted that means !!!

We did not have any treat or treaters ring our doorbell. It's a shame that some members of society has ruin such a wonderful neighborhood tradition.

Donating the left over candy to the local food bank is a great idea.
There are other kids who didn't go trick or treating that would love the candy.
Not on the lips means not on the hips. emoticon

You might want to give it to a local food bank , that way it's not there to tempt you and you'll have a good feeling in your heart knowing it didn't go to waste! There are kids that are in need and deserve a special treat.... just a suggestion

I have trouble myself with out of sight out of mind. I always remember exactly where it is. You might consider donating some to a nursing home or to a senior citizen center. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

I've never bought candy for where I'm living. I'm so far out in the sticks that no one can find me. Life is good. Good luck with the out of sight, out of mind plan. I wish you the best.

It is times like this that I am thankful that I am far removed from town and the need to buy candy for the kiddies. I haven't had a Treater in 20 years! Have a spooktacular evening!

My vacation is where the earthquake was and then onto where Hurricane Sandy was - EEKS !!

Monday, October 29, 2012

Just my luck, I am leaving on vacation and I first go to Vancouver/Victoria where they had an earthquake this past weekend measuring 7.7, then I am off to the Caribean where they just got over Hurricane Sandy passing thru to visit this past weekend.

Is someone trying to tell me I should stay home and not go anywhere? Well, sorry, not going to happen, I will go anyway, after, there is an airport at both places and as long as that still stands, I am having my well deserved holiday!!

Hopefully all will be well, but I figure if not, I will have lots to talk about when I return back home!

And how was the weather where you were this weekend ?!

What are the chances of that? Living on the west coast and hearing about Sandy coming I was thankful I didn't live in hurricane country and all I had to worry about are earthquakes. And wouldn't you know it then we have the 7.7 which was felt some people who live near me. (notme thought).
Have a wonderful and safe trip to the Caribbean.

The trick is .... you weren't there WHILE it happened.

I'm in New Jersey watching Sandy ..... my condo has big windows on 3 sides.
Luckily my area is 310 feet above sea level.
enjoy your trip

What's with all the zombie movies on t.v., must be Halloween .... chocolate and activities FUN

Sunday, October 28, 2012

All day there have been zombie movies on two of our television channels, gearing up for HALLOWEEN again.

Having a pumpkin carving contest at work tomorrow and a huge pot luck lunch on Wednesday (Halloween day). Always lots of fun, always lots of food, all of it fantastic. I will behave and not overdo it though. WISH ME LUCK !!!

I bought loads of little chocolate bars the other day and my daughter said it's not enough (ONLY BECAUSE SHE WANTS IT FOR HERSELF !! ) so today she and my granddaughter went candy shopping, came home with the entire store I swear. My goodness.

I am trying not to think about it being here, but it's difficult since it is all sitting on the kitchen table waiting for HER to put it all away.

I am no different from her, I love chocoate too, but have been very good in not having any of what I bought and likely will succeed in avoiding what she has bought too.

I keep telling myself I have not gone through all these months working hard to get here only to start the road back again, my road is going forward no matter what and I am not going to turn back

If only my kids (grown up kids) would put things away for themselves!! So, I say it again, WISH ME LUCK !!!

I used to purposely overbuy candy at Halloween, this time I tried to get just what I thought we needed....if they clean me out early I'll just have to turn out the light!
