LOL at my nearly fattest point we had family pictures taken. So I have a reminder on my desk, in my living room, at my mom's and brother's houses of what I don't want to look like again! The rest of the family looks pretty good though!

What a scare we all had today .... diabetes is such a horrible disease!

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Tonight I am feeling a sense of relief. Today one of my best friends/coworkers husband went missing. He dropped her off at work, then was to drive to work himself just 3 streets over from us.

Two hours later his workplace phoned her and told her he had not shown up for work! She went into a panic of course. He is a diabetic and often does not do as he should, eat how he should, test his blood sugar when he should and she worries herself silly over him. He makes me just mad. Why put your family and friends thru so much worry, just do what is necessary!

Anyway, she didn't know what to do, they said they would call her back if he showed up or they found something out about him, so she was terrified to leave her desk of course. I went and got security and they called the police, they had no record of any accidents or problems with him. She called their son who went out to the house to check if he was there as nobody answered their home phone when we all called several times. Nope, not at home! He doesn't believe in cell phones, so doesn't carry one ..... can't believe how STUPID that is, especially if something severe affects your health so much.

We found out where he parks his truck (parking lot in an apt. bldg. nearby) and when we checked it out, the parking stall was empty, no sign of him having been there either. We called the hospitals, not at any of them.

So, we drove her home and were going to stay with her while she waited for her daught4er to come and take care of her. While we were waiting, guess who walked in the door and asked why we were all there and not at work!! Yep, you guessed it, her husband.

He had driven away from our office, and didn't get as far as his work as he got confused and didn't know where he was or where he was going! So, he went and washed his truck, can you believe that !!?

Apparently, he became mixed up (diabetes related) and confused, and thought he was on the way to the car wash, after he washed the truck he drove around trying to locate his house. He didn't know anything was wrong until he walked into the house and it hit him that he had dropped her off at work earlier in the day. He didn't know it was a work day, didn't call her or his work and suddenly realized where he lived and went home as if nothing was wrong.

She stayed home with him after that, and we returned back to the office. If he wasn't in trouble before he would be when she got ahold of him!!

This all stems from not taking care of himself properly! FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT SUFFER FROM THIS AWFUL DISEASE, PLEASE TAKE CARE, DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, EAT PROPERLY, AND TEST YOUR BLOOD AS YOU SHOULD ~!!! ... Don't do this to your loved ones EVER.

We were lucky, it could have been so much worse, and it is cruel to cause people this unnecessary grief and worry.

As you can guess, we are all exhausted from this!

How scary! Glad it all turned out OK. And a good example of why it's better to get things under control before becoming diabetic.

He is a very lucky man to have a wife like you.
Your determination to find him is wonderful and may have saved his life.
It might be a good idea for him to have a plan in place to avoid this in the future.
Bottom line is that he in responsible for taking of himself.
Peace

    O M G!

This is the kind of thing that has been known to cause DIVORCES! Sheesh! If that fella doesn't see this for the wake-up call that it needs to be, well, then, I don't know what else I can say - except that I hope his family plans well for the *worst*........sigh.....

My father in law was the same way. My poor MIL had to work to support the family, but couldn't move to get the better job because she needed all her friends to help keep an eye on her stubborn, diabetic husband. He died at 64. Then his son, my husband, became diabetic, and he was the same way. It took 3 strokes and a broken ankle that wouldn't heal to get his attention. Of course, stroke damage is permanent, so it's a hard lesson to learn. If anyone comes up with an answer to denial there will be many happier family members.

Not only do they get confused mentally, it affects them physically...losing body parts due to not following a good diet and so forth.

I couldn't agree with you more - I just hope your friend is able to hammer it into her husband's head. It is so not fair to do this to people who love you!

A coworker at my last job has a similar problem with her husband. It wasnt unusual for her to suddenly leave because she had gotten a scary phone call. All of it avoidable.

A Joke for Women Only, men just wouldn't understand !! OR WOULD THEY?

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Excuse the final sentence, it's just not funny without it however ....... ENJOY ..........

Lady's Yearly Exam

I went to the doctor for my yearly physical.
The nurse started with certain basics.
"How much do you weigh?" she asked.
"135," I said.
The nurse put me on the scale.
It turns out my weight is 180.

The nurse asked, "Your height?"
"5 foot 4," I said.
The nurse checked and saw that I only measure 5'2"

She then took my blood pressure and told me that it is very high.
"Of course it's high!" I screamed, "When I came in here I
was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!"

She put me on Prozac.
What a bitch.

A 'pork on your fork' recipe that will please anyone

Sunday, October 21, 2012

This is so good, quick and easy. Serve with scalloped potatoes or mashed potatoes with gravy and a vegetable.

ROAST PORT WITH FRESH PEAR SALSA

16 servings

INGREDIENTS:
3 fresh red pears (9.5 oz. / 270 grams)
1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted (60 ml.)
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley, divided (6 ml.)
1/4 cup Balsamic-Vinaigrette Dressing, divided (125 ml.)
1 1/4 tsp. ground cumin, divided (6 ml.)
4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1 center-cut pork loin roast or 2 pork tenderloins (4 lb./1.8 kg.)

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. (220 degrees C.)
Combine pears, nuts, 1/4 cup each of parsley and dressing, and 1/4 tsp. cumin. Refigerate until ready to serve.
Mix remaining parsley, dressing, cumin and garlic. Place meat in a roasting pan or shallow baking dish; brush with dressing mixture.
Bake 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C.)
Bake for one hour and 40 minutes or until meat is done (160 degrees F.)
Let stand 10 minutes before slicing. If using pork tenderloin, dcook only another 10-15 minutes after reducing oven temperature or until meat is done (160 degrees F.)
Serve with the pear salsa.
