I lost a dear friend to a heart attack on the weekend, so now I'm getting real again!

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

This past Sunday, I lost my wonderful friend, Wayne to a massive heart attack. He was a very large man, and was constantly suffering from shortness of breath. While outside shovelling the snow from his sidewalks he collapsed and was found by his wife when she went outside to see what was taking him so long. He was only 38 years old and was a wonderful husband and dad to his little 9 year old girl.

I had been attempting to get back on board with the exercise and eating right thing but had not yet become totally re-committed yet, this loss however has hit us very hard and has alerted me once again of how important my journey to better health is.

The Caribbean vacation is done, Christmas is done and the new year has arrived, and it's back to it for me again.

Thru all of these wonderful times, I did only put on 5 lbs of the 75 lbs. I lost in 2012, but it's about 10 lbs. too much, so time to get serious for 2013 now. It's time to shed that 10 lbs. and work on more loss as the year moves forward.

Just a short comment for those who live in sunny places without the white Christmas. Honestly, Bing Crosby lived in California, never likely saw a White Christmas. It is not all it's cracked up to be!! Travel is HELL, weather is COLD and uncomfortable, and you see heart attacks quite a bit as shovelling the SH**T is very hard work ! So, be lucky if you have a green Christmas, there are lots of Canadians that would trade you places in a minute, in this case Wayne would have been one of them!! Be careful what you wish for I guess is a lesson to remember (unless it's wishing for a healthy life) !! We will all emoticon Wayne, may the angels take great care of you and may you teach them how being a GREAT human being has touched so many of us here!

Sorry you've lost your friend and that his wife and daughter have lost their anchor. Last year I lost one of my best friends to a heart attack-she had been about 400 lbs for years and could never stay on a program long enough to lose the weight tho she did get around quite well and kept real busy. It's a hard way to learn.

I am sorry for your loss, too! My DH, almost lost his life, because of his weight. Since THAT incident, we have BOTH joined the healthy band wagon! I'm 5 # to goal & he has another 50 to go! We are both doing SO much better. Sometimes it takes an incident like this to shake us up enough to "be real" as you say! Good for you for recognizing this. Maybe his life will continue in your getting healthy. Just a thought.

Again, I am sorry you lost your friend!

Back from the Caribbean - so sad! Had a great time ...

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Hi friends,
Haven't been on here for a while since I left on my vacation - been gone since Nov. 9 and can't believe how much I ate, the food was out of this world --- only put on 2 lbs., I just can't believe it, I'm thinking my scale must be busted ?? !! My clothes don't feel any tighter though, so must be true!

I shopped and walked miles, so perhaps that's it .... carrying all the extra packages around all the various islands and getting in the walking for exercise perhaps.

Haven't checked my credit cards yet, not quite back to reality I suppose. I will get there, but not until I go back to work on Thursday morning ..... boohoo, not a wanna do, but have to pay for this somehow or another. Gotta say, it was worth every penny though, the weather was great, and can't believe how much the folks that work on the Noordam ship make you feel so welcome. They are just great, went over and above to ensure every want and need was met. I would recommend them to anyone looking to go cruising!

Just got back at 2 am this morning, and with the time difference of 4 hours I'm afraid I am suffering somewhat from jet lag, so I won't stop to write more, I will catch everyone up as soon as I come back to life here and wake up some more!

Gotta go have my 'Slimfast' breakfast now .... like I said, back to reality (slowly however) !!

Have a great day all.

A 2 pound gain is a small price to pay for such a great vacation. Thanks for sharing. Benny

Another excuse for eating / overeating / what to tell you Dr. ..... (joke)

Tuesday, November 06, 2012

"Dr.., you have to understand, I have metal fillings in my teeth. My refrigerator magnets keep pulling me into the kitchen. that's why it's difficult for me to lose weight" ............

OR whatever story you think will fool your Dr. would likely work as well ... or perhaps worse!

Four more sleeps to my vacation --- out of the snow and into the sun

Monday, November 05, 2012

It's almost here, after months of counting days, I finally will be going on Friday.

Off to Victoria, then Vancouver, then the Carribean, back to Victoria, then home on the 28th of Nov.

I am trying to catch up on work before I go, so that makes the days fly by, and have so much to do after work ttime goes by quickly then too.

Whether I get everything done, I don't know, but ask if I care .... Nope, not really!!

Is it U.S. Thanksgiving this weekend or next weekend?

Sunday, November 04, 2012

Whatever the weekend is, my wishes to our neighbors to the south for the holiday season, boy, time goes far too quickly doesn't it ?? !!

Hope the disaster victims are getting their life back together again. What a horrible experience this must have been. Never get anything like those storms here, it ALMOST makes me appreciate the snow and cold .......... I said ALMOST ... we still get those wicked blizzards that can cripple my area of the world.

In the US our Thanksgiving day is on November 22nd this year of 2012. So, two weeks from yesterday. LOL......The storm Sandy was so sad for so many people and so much loss. Now the Nor'Easter is a worry for many. I feel very lucky and blessed. I did lose power for 4 days and had no heat either, but was able to stay with family. We took the freezer food along and most of the refrig. food. Was happy to get back home, as nice as it was being with my kids and grand kids. Just so much to do at home and trying to catch up now, still. Hope all of you enjoy the weekend and holiday coming up soon. Keep Tracking, Exercising and drinking that water!

If we are wise, everyday is a day for giving Thanks, regardless where we live. We don't focus on being truly thankful nearly enough.
