Putting on my thinking cap and vision glasses...

I will be fit 'n healthy. I'll be able to ride my bicycle, hike in the woods, dance, play games like kickball, and go sledding with ease. (I can do all these things now, but it would be much easier with less weight and more muscles.)

I'll like my reflection in the mirror. I'll know that I've done everything possible to look vibrant, radiant, and healthy. For now... I'll fake it until I make it. Update my style. Take more care with my appearance.

Food will have a proper place in my life... not central stage. Food will be used to fuel my body. I will have a repertoire of healthy recipes that I use often. Right now, I will start planning healthy meals and trying new recipes.

I will be joyous and happy. Less stress. I will use meditation and positive affirmations and friends to help me with this goal.

    I really like the thought of allowing ourselves to dream of what life will look like & feel like..I do this now and its what makes me want to put every bit of fight I can to reach and attain that lifestyle...
I need to work on accepting myself (the fake it till you make it) while getting to my goals.
I am very hard/critical on myself when it comes to the way I look to me I need to have more confidence but for me its hard.... emoticon for reminding me that we are worth it! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Dee what a great thought! Visualization is a great tool! I have trouble with this, only because I "see" myself as I WAS! And because I honestly have trouble "seeing" what I "could be, or should be" it makes it truly difficult!

So I AM TAKING YOUR BEAUTIFUL BLOG, and pardon my expression, "Steal it" and post it so I can READ IT EVERYDAY!!!!

I love my SPF's! You have given me insite, encouragement, inspiration, and yes, love! I honestly feel that the loving feelings I get from you and others, is what has kept me POSITIVE!

Scale or No Scale

After three weeks of my "No Weigh to News Year Day" challenge, how am I doing?

I'm curious if I've lost any pounds. I haven't noticed a big difference in my clothes yet.

I have a super kicked up attitude!
I'm eating a lot more fruits and vegetables.
I'm exercising at least 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week.
I've brought my lunch to work with me every day.
I plan my meals on Sunday. I cook all our meals at home during the week.
I drink 8 glasses of water every day.

As my good friend Fran would say... "these are changes I can live with forever."

What about the number on the scale? Would I change anything if I knew I'd lost 1 pound or 5 pounds or no weight at all?

Possibly. It might show me that I need to track calories instead of just watching my portions. It might discourage me and lead to a binge. It might show me that I'm doing it right and pump me up.

I like surprises! The idea of waiting 4 months to weigh myself is like anticipating a gift. The challenge to see what I can do in 4 months time has given me a new amazing attitude!!

    Daily changes, whether you weigh yourself or not, are the key to losing. Pounds aren't the only way to tell, loose clothing and measuring yourself are another way. Plus, feeling better and the way you look are too!

    I do think at the end of this 4 months it will show you how you handled yourself and if you would have done anything differently,I like the idea that your doing all these healthy things and focusing on them rather then worrying about the scale once a week to tell you how your feeling..I think this is...WAIT! I know this is going to be a change for the better! emoticon emoticon

i have worked to break the emotional tie of the scale results to the activities i do, just like i have tried to break other ties... like food to exercise... i do both of those for very profound reasons to nourish myself. i *think* knowing our weight plays a role, just like knowing the length of our hair, we may want to *cut* it... but... the scale should not direct our emotions... and perhaps *u* R the most sparktacular reason of all to focus on all that U can do!!! I am excited for you :)

I love her phrase "Amaze Yourself." I'm using it as my newest mantra. When faced with a choice or wavering in my dedication, I pull through with the thought "Amaze Yourself."

How about treating eating healthy as a way to "Pamper Yourself" ? She's right. It lifts my spirits to know I'm doing what it takes to reach my goals. I have more energy. I feel great!

Quiet Voices in my Head

Ever made a New Years Resolution and then didn't keep it? I'm making mine early this year.

I'm going to weigh myself on September 1st. Then the scale is going into hibernation. I will focus on a healthy life style. (More on that later.) I'm planning a Big New Years Celebration when I step on the scale and see what I was able to accomplish in 4 months!!

What is it I want most? It's not a number on a scale. It's quality of life. I want to be able to travel, ride a bicycle, hike to a waterfall, walk on a beach, swim, camp, and any other activity that I find enjoyable. I want to age gracefully. I want to keep my brain alive (my mother has been robbed of her golden years by Alzheimer's Disease).

Weighing myself every week (seeing a gain, maintain, or small loss) brings out the voices in my head. "It isn't worth it" or "I might as well have ate the cheesecake" or "Just give up and go back to my old ways."

Not knowing is going to add a bit of excitement. Waiting for the big surprise ending. Challenging myself to see just how good I can do.

Thank you BrendaBunny for suggesting this new approach. It has to be fun or I won't do it. This idea sounds like fun to me!

    Princess(Dee) I am smiling (BIG) I can't tell you how happy I am that we are going to do this....We have already been doing it the other way for a long time so what do we have to lose? Except pounds and what we have to gain is inmeasurable!!!
I have wanted for so long to break my addiction with the scale and that in its own is a huge victory!!
You hit it right on with what you said above in your blog :

We will be challenging ourselves to make better choices!
