Thank you for the comment on my blog, and I'm sorry to hear about the family troubles. What I can recommend is trying to make your evenings more productive to make your meals during the day more healthy. Pack a lunch, just like elementary school. Pasta salad, (regular salad), healthy sandwiches, fruits, veggies, all of these things are easy to throw together the night before, and all you have to do is slip an ice pack into the pack and you are all set to go whenever you need to be at the hospital. And you can plan out your food the night before and bring a sheet of paper with you to remind you what to eat when. If you can't seem to find a microwave to nuke something in, ask a nurse if they have one that you can use. Most likely, they do, although it may be in an unexpected place. this will give you an even bigger variety of options. Its good that you are taking the opportunity to walk around! I like to walk around with my mp3 player and listen to really fast songs, or even watch a movie on it (gotta love my zune). If you don't have one, get one, I highly recommend it. One of the best things you can do for your family is to get healthy so you can help take care of them. I'm glad you are making conscious choices to be healthier! Keep it up... you can get through this. Report Inappropriate Comment |

I will be praying for your dad and your family. I agree with MJHUGES12, take some good snacks with you when you are going to be at the hospital or taking care of your mother. My husband has some serious health issues that made it necessary for me to be at the hospital with him for up to a week at a time (100+ miles from home) for a while, and I had to live on cafeteria food, which is often starchy or greasy. I know it is so much easier (and, unfortunately, cheaper) to grab packs of snacks and cookies, and sodas, etc, from the snack bars. It made such a difference for me when I have been able to plan trips ahead of time, to be able to pack fruits or crackers or rice cakes, or something actually good for me. Walking the halls can actually be great therapy. It is a wonderful way to burn off all that nervous energy. The hospitals in Pittsburgh have 68 miles of adjoining hallways, and I have probably walked all of them! We joke about it, but it is true, I can give people directions through those hospitals like I live there. It is wonderful that you are so devoted to your parents, but be sure you are taking care of yourself, too. It won't help them any if you let yourself get run down. I'm sorry about your Dad and Mom. I'm glad your trying to make the good choices for yourself. The farther along into it the better you will feel with the physical energy and mental energy. Just try to make sure to keep yourself on the list to be taken care. Report Inappropriate Comment |

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. It certainly sounds like you have a lot on your plate taking care of your family, you sound like a wonderful daughter that your parents should be very proud of. You are so right that you still need to take care of yourself, make good choices and try to fit in some exercise, even if it is just pacing the floor at the hospital. Maybe you can try to pack a bag with some good snacks (fruit, veggies, etc.) so you won't be tempted to get something bad in the cafeteria and will be armed with some good snacks when the stress starts to get to you. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. Regards, Margaret > Report Inappropriate Comment |

Do you know the analogy between weight and carrying a 5 lb. sack of flour? I'm carrying 21 sacks of flour around on my body. No wonder it's difficult to do anything. I sweat and I'm winded whenever I exercise.
I'm going to drop those sacks one by one. The sacks are going to break open and the flour is going to be blown away so I can't pick them up again.

What a wonderful analogy! I know it will come to mind every time I register a 5 lb loss.
