time with friends -- great exercise

In the past week, I have had two wonderful opportunities to spend a little time "playing" with some friends. Monday it was raquetball with Pat, today it was sledding with 4-year old Alice and Teresa. Both experiences involved a lot of smiling and laughing, not to mention moving around and getting some exercise. But to me, any calories burned were a bonus. The real benefit of these experiences was the happiness, warmth, and gratitude that comes with being with good friends. Now THAT's healthy.

Found myself getting a bit too wrapped up in trying to follow the Flat Belly food guidelines to a T. The last thing I want to become is obsessed so I told myself to relax, understand that I don't have immediate access to all the recommended foods, and that it's ok to continue along with the food choices and serving amounts that have been working for me. I'm still striving to follow the Flat Belly suggestions, but not hung up on being able to do it perfectly. Ahhhhhh! Relief!

This weekend I bought the basic "Flat Belly" package -- mostly a lot of information I think will help me fine-tune my eating. Right now I'm following the "protein" metabolism type -- meaning, I'm eating more protein than carbs during the day. It's amazing how much this plan has me eating! I'm logging it it my Spark People nutrition tracker and it seems to be keeping me right in the ranges of all the foods I should be eating. The only place I'm a little low is in carbs -- so I think I might add an extra serving per day and see what happens. Otherwise, I'm really enjoying what I'm eating and feeling nice and full after all my meals. The one thing I don't know if I can give up though is my daily serving of "ice cream" (actually, I'm eating low-fat ice cream; sometimes frozen yogurt. I call everything frozen and creamy ice cream). I guess the worst part of it is the sugar. But I wonder -- how bad can it be if I eat so little? Time will tell!

So....I have never "blogged" before and actually, I'm not sure what I even want to write about today. Guess I just thought I'd give it a try, if only as a journal of sorts for myself.

It's Sunday afternoon and another relaxing day. We have been on vacation from work since Christmas Eve and don't go back until Wednesday. I am SOOOOO loving this time off.

I'm spending the day today fiddling around on my Sparkpage, reading some stuff online and maybe browsing the Barnes & Noble site to see if I can spend some of the gift card$$ I got for Christmas. I also might spend some time creating a Facebook page for church. It's nice to not have a schedule right now and to just enjoy this quiet time while I have it.
