Why do I want to eat healthy?

Sunday, May 17, 2009

I want to get my cholesterol down. I want my blood pressure and sugar levels to stay healthy. I want my heart to be healthy. I want to feel better.

Why do I want a fit body?

Sunday, May 17, 2009

I want to look healthy. I want to look great in a bathing suit. A two piece bathing suit. I want to look "smokin' " as my husband would say. I want to look like me again. This body is not me...

What was my low point?

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Another challenge this week is to say what my low point was for joining sparkpeople.

In my previous blog I mentions buying three new pairs of pants and not being able to zip any of them....that coupled with the scale reading 160 and feeling stuffed into all my clothes and bloated all the time. THAT was most definitely my low point.

How did I get there?? By not caring. I didn't care what I ate. I didn't care about exercising. I stopped tracking my food. I felt sorry for myself when we went out - whining to myself "Everyone can eat what they want to, why can't I??" and then proceeded to eat everything I wanted. Then the next day feeling awful and whinging - "why can't I lose weight??"

You know, come to think of it. This is how I've been sounding lately. I think I need to get to tracking and focusing again. I'm not paying attention and the weight is not coming off.

I see you managed to get your blogs in.

I know what you mean about paying attention. When I don't, I either don't lose or gain.

What Motivated Me to Join Spark

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

For The Challenge of Harry Potter Team, one of my tasks this week is to blog about what motivated me to join SP....

Well, let's start with what motivated me to want to lose weight and be healthier.

First off, last January, I purchased 3 pairs of pants at my usual size. I knew I had gained weight over the holidays but I was mortified when I tried on the pants and I could not button nor zip any of them. I told myself, "you are not returning these pants, you are going to fit into them and then lose more weight to get down to a healthier size". So I started. I lost 7 lbs on my own.

In the meantime, my weight watchers membership came up for renewal. I had been paying right along. I decided not to renew as I had gained weight anyway and why should I spend money to do what I already know how to do! About the same time I had heard of SparkPeople through people at the school I was subbing at. I figured I could give it a try and not spend any money.

My motivation at that time was to continue to lose weight to be a smaller, sexier size again. Also, it scared me to know that my new, unhealthy weight actually put me into the "overweight" category for BMI. I was, again, mortified! I have never been overweight. I decided that I need to get to a healthy BMI and become more active for myself, my husband and our son. I want to play and have fun with him and I want to feel good doing it.

So....there you have it...

Nothing like clothes not fitting right for motivation!!! I tried Weight Watchers once upon a time. I'm with you, this is much better!

Keep up the good work. You look fabulous!

Fantastic reasons! For you and for others- no bigger motivator than that! I like not having to spend money either. It definitely helps make this site very attractive. The support I get from my friends here is absolutely wonderful and I wouldn't trade it for all the WW meetings in the world!

Family is always a great motivator. I haven't though really of what motivated me to join, so I'll have to think that through!

Every time I see an ad for Weight Watchers, I want to reach out to all the people paying and say "WAIT!!!! There's a great site out there that's FREE!!!!!" (Not to discount the good that WW has done for many people, it's just after joining Spark, I wish that EVERYONE knew about this site!)
Plus, I think having to pay money only adds to the guilt factor when a person falls off track.

Have a great day!

Don't you hate when your computer does stupid things like that? Glad you are back!

But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?

Just thinking about you today!

That can be so frustrating! I wonder if that had something to do with me not getting notice of your blog which I had subscribed to. At least your computer is fixed for now.

The nice thing about SP is that you can at least go to your teams and check out posts.

Thanks for the nice comments on my blog. You certainly got there very quickly after my posting it.
