5 Weeks now since the fire.

Can't begin to tell you all that has gone on and continues to go on. We still don't know if they are going to save some of the studs only, or tear to the ground the entire house. Furniture we thought was saved ended up with water damage. The over 90 years of pictures everyone was sure by the condition of the area they were in that they were all gone BUT......

They got to the pictures yesterday and called us over. 90% it appears were saved!!!! Many can be restored. I had begun to think my only son's few pictures would be gone. He died when he was a month old. Half his life was in the hospital so there were few pictures. We had so few memories to cherish. But, I found one!!!!Then I found this small brown book. Dare I to hope???? And there it was, his funeral Memorial Book. I cried with joy.

The rest of the possessions we lost was just "stuff". It was odd that a photo album would be all burned and stuck together, and when you got it open most of the pictures were fine. All I can say is "Thank you Lord."

It is a wonderful feeling to still have a reminder of those we lost long ago. Especially those that are very precious to us. It's like giving us back a little piece of our lives. I hope things are getting somewhat better for you. And that you are in some place warm, cause it's a cold bitter winter. many times memories is what makes every place special. so when your house is finished being built, I hope you have new, and wonderful memories to fill it up. You could make a make shift memorial in a place in the new house. I sometimes, if I don't have pictures, find cards, or memorial things that still reminds me of loss. take care, and glad something good has be emoticon emoticon en found. eva

After the fire news.

Thursday, October 24, 2013

What a nightmare this week has been. Every service you have including mail has to be changed. Insurance meetings, and trying to remember what was where so you can claim it.
Had several of you that have gone thru this I see, when I read the blog. I have to ask, did you have trouble sleeping for a while. I am half asleep right now as I write this, but when I go to bed my mind is racing. I'm sure by next week things will settle down.
The good news is we are in the rental. It's fully furnished. Lake Havasu, AZ is a major snowbird (people that leave cold snowy areas for the warm winters here) area starting in the month of October, so we were afraid we wouldn't find something. And it's strange place to rent here, because the owners here leave stuff in the home they don't want you to use and keep certain closets etc off limits. Because we are a big recreational area, the owners return for the weekends starting in March or so. Still, we are lucky that it is this kind of area because we were able to find homes that even furnish dishes.
Again, we are trying to concentrate on how much they were able to save, and that we ourselves are unharmed. And my babies (birds and dog) are adjusting. Poor Brody the golden retriever, didn't know what was going on. When we finally picked him up we took him to a different home. He allows 12 inches between me and him whenever I leave a room. He was thrilled when we found his toy basket and after washing them all he could play with them. He somehow took this to mean we are staying. So hurrah for his toy basket being spared.
I have a VERY good friend that knows birds, and she took my Willie and Phoebe in for about 5 days. It was a pain to visit them 3 times a day so they didn't get too nervous and de feather themselves. Just think what it was like for my friend too, who had to put up with us stopping by all the time. She is the best friend a gal could have. Because of her caring and knowing what to do the birds psyches seem to be in tact. Big birds are waaay different then the little birds. We like to say they have can openers on their faces. Just think of the damage they could do uh? So it isn't easy to find people that aren't afraid of them. Love you Vicki!!!
I bet when I write again, I will be totally able to say we made it thru and are recovering well. I don't understand why I feel a loss, when I have what matters.

Of course, we are grateful for our lives and those of our family and furry family. However, it IS a loss of home and cherished things we worked hard to get that have sentimental value. It's also a huge shaking of our personal fdn that life is so fragile and how little we are in control of many things. But you have control of how you will react to all this and play the hand you've been dealt. Because my fire involved so much (almost died three times that night), it took me a lonnnng time to get over it. Sound of fire engines, smell of smoke, all provoked instant reactions and flight syndrome for a long time after the fire. Big hug.

Details on my House Fire.

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Woke up before 4 am this morning. The hotel has a computer so I thought I would let me friends know a little bit more about what happened.

About 8:30 Friday morning my husband was working on a boat in the garage. He works on one thing or another all the time. He did the usual soaking the boat down with water and had fire extinguishers (2) on hand. He was using a saw inside the boat a spark hit the drained of gas engine and wham it went up.

I was inside getting ready for a Walmart trip and heard him yell. Something about the yell was more than the yell of smashing his thumb. I Opened the house garage door and saw that we had a fire. A bad one, it blew up at some point too.

He told me to call 911. Someone walking by screamed at us that we would not be able to put this out. I started into the house and remembered my birds were in the back part of the garage where their day area with tv and videos and stands are. I didn't call 911 but ran back to get them. Birds die from smoke inhalation faster than humans. I got halfway to there and out of the smoke and fire came my husband with a bird under each arm, cradled like footballs. In my photos you can see how big these birds are. Anyway, I grabbed them and ran back into the house for a stand. The house by this time was filling with smoke and the alarms were blaring . I had to risk putting them outside on the patio and hope they didn't fly away with fear.

By this time the man walking by had entered the home and was assisting my 92 year old mom (who wanted her shoes and purse before she would go). It goes on from there. I guess there is an entire video of the fire filmed by the fire dept. If you are interested it is at and you type in 3300 or Iroquois and you can see it. I started to, but when they were talking about a female still inside (which was me on the back porch with the birds) I started to cry.

We all got out alive. We will be out of the house for 6 months. The firefighters here are amazing. They saved all the furniture that was in danger and carried it outside. Did you know they do that?

Tomorrow I will write more about that.

Please pray we find a home soon to live in while our house is being restored. But we already got the biggest gift from God, we are alive and so are our pets. Oh yes, somewhere in there I grabbed the dog, or that man did that was walking by so Brody is okay too.

Later my friends. I find this comforting for some unknown reason, to write this down.

I know how you must be feeling -- for the last day of June 2013 we had to evacuate our home in Yarnell, AZ when there was a forest fire. We lost everything except our furbabies, as we had only about 5 minutes to get out. It is terrifying to be sure. When we left the fire was only about 50 ft away, and looked like it was 40 feet tall.

Ours was a total loss, but Thank God you were able to save most of your furniture. Good luck dealing with the insurance company.

Jumped from 3rd floor window, after throwing my 1 year old son down (no net, someone caught him). I nearly died three times that night. All three of us were saved (my then DH). They thought I'd be paralyzed for life because I landed on my back when I jumped. However, I've never had one bit of back trouble in all these years! A miracle! Will send positive energy your way. The Ads on here are getting stupid!!

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Yesterday and today when I clicked on recipe featured and went to click on that, both times an ad not only was there, but opened. Then just now when I went to look at my points for the day, an ad was over top the numbers and I had to click it off to see my points for the day. Come on now guys, it's bad enough to have to wait for the ads to download, this is really getting ridiculous.

Changing your browser can help. Firefox does a better job than Yahoo. Also, report inappropriate ads to SP. The advertisers can purchase ads through the internet..and SP wants to remove them asap if they are not appropriate for our goals.

Yeah, I have to agree. I have moused over ads and they pop up and get in my way so many times it is annoying. If I was new to spark, that would be enough to make me go elsewhere. Us old timers, takes a bit more to make me leave as I love the resources so, but I still think they are pushing it.

It's a challenge Debby! But emoticon
and you will feel so much better. I am taking
on the challenge as well. Not today, I lost

Wishing you the very best!
