Today was a stop n go day...

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

I'm kind of tired.
Robert has tried 3 days in a row to get a swine flu shot and each time he goes there there are about 250 people in front of him in line. He's German. He has no patience (only with me) LOl. hen we went to Fashion Bug and i got a brand new very warm and with a hood Jacket. First one in a long time. Then we stopped and I ahd a tostada and our favorite mexican place and I got a bunch of Guacamole up my nose. Geeeezzzzz Then we went to Independent Living Recources. I'm going to be volunteering there starting next tuesday. I need to feel productive. I will begin with 2 hours organizing Cathy's office but will move up to office work. Filin and arranging events and from there go to Practice. On the river. I'm not too eager to do that because of the cold.

Tomorrow I will make Spark People's "Black Beans/Chicken in the slow cooker. I can't wait. It will also ahve brown rice and salsa.

For those of you I ahve not told yet... I was turned down yes... rejected once again for a Guide Dog from Leader Dogs for the Blind in rochester, Michigan. Because I refuse to fly in a plane. You see, I suffer menieres disease and Vertigo and going up in a plane causes pressure in my ears which leaves pain for days after and Vertigo symptoms. they reuse to let the dog go on Amtrack. I also applied at Guiding eyes for the Blind in New York and I hope this comes through. My time will come sooner or later.

Anyone can sympathize with the sufferings of a friend, but it
requires a very fine nature to sympathize with a friend's success.

I'm so sorry Debbie! It doesn't seem fair! And I wish I could think of some way around that requirement. I would be happy to fly to Minnesota and bring your dog back for you, but I know that wouldn't work either. Hang in there -- you'll get one some day!

Perhaps they will reconsider and work with you to find another form of transportation or at least refer you to another group.
I hope something works out real soon so you can get your dog.

We got our flu shots a couple weeks ago at Krogers. NO more left in this Tri state area now though,.... We are both high risk so I am blessed to ahve been able to get them while htey were available..
Every one around us is sick, but we got the shots, so far so good..
as far as your doggie, you WILL get what you need, WHEN you need it, ,, on HIS timetable,,
you know I continue to pray for a way! Unless you could take an extended vacation by rail and stop along the way, get back on the train,,, go by car part way too.. could you stay in MIchigan for awhile beyond their required training time, with your relative or friend that lives there???

You are in my prayers that someone will finally have some sense & will let you travel by means other than an airplane with a guide dog! You have a very valid reason for not doing so.
As for the flu shots - no luck around here for either kind yet. I hope your guy can get the shots soon.

I may be able to hear again!

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

I received a letter from my Dr. today and an appt was scheduled immediately. I have an appt. at OHSU (Oregon health and Science University for a consultation for a Cochlear implant. what a gift that would be If I can hear and not be bothered by extremely loud noises. I suffered rubella/german measles as a child of 6 and was hospitalized with a high fever. the fever caused extensive damage to my nerves in my inner ears and also my optic nerves. over the years the loss has been slow and gradual. I ahve worn numerous hearing aids but all they do is magnify the sounds I don't care to hear and drowns out the important sounds like words to a song. I can hear music fine but not understand the words to the song.

If I can hear again I would love to hear the voice of my lovely daughter and to be able to hear the beautiful words to songs I liked as a teen. I'd also take part in singing praises of my Lord Jesus Christ.

My appt is set for November 17th.

Enjoy your day!

Oh Debbie I so pray that you will be a candidate for this wonderful God given device. My daughter received this wonderful gift too! She became ill with scarlet fever in 1971 and ran a high fever, she too lost her hearing over time. She wore hearing aids her entire school life. She was the first person in the State of Arkansas to have the surgery for the implant at the age of 32. She can now hear my voice of which she could not hear her entire childhood. She has 80% hearing in that ear the other is totally gone but it has changed her life to have to the implant in the other ear.

I will have my prayer warriors praying hard for you. I will be watching for an update please keep us updated.

Annual meeting

Monday, November 02, 2009

These pictures are taken off my deck. It's where I spend a lot of time. I ahve plants out there and tried growing tomaties in the spring but failed.

We ahd our team meeting alst night 6:30-9. board members ahve changed and I was voted to be Advisor to fund raising. We're discussing the China trip and ways to earn money and our upcoming Races. Schedules for next summer. ('m going to be a Team Captain for our Salem, Oregon Race. Several of our races we are expected to stay in hotels overnight. We added 2 new races to our schedule (3 including china) We will Race in Seattle, WA and Victoria, B.C. (Canada) I have a practice coming up this week thursday night and I am not really looking forward to it because of the cold. I am searching higha nd low at thrift shops and goodwill for Wet suit pants that will fit me. they are expensive to buy. If it is raining we are expected to step in the boat and use a bottom half of a bleach ottle to scoop the rain water out of the boat. Even with water shoes on your feet get wet.
We'll be starting practice in the YWCA Pool soon, too. Coach Ayla and her hsuband, Kevin ahve built special seats for the pool where you can get exercise, training and cardio in special seats using our paddles. We ahve to pay $20.00 for 6 weeks at the pool. Not bad. I might look into using the Y for exercise of water aerobics.
Also, Vanessa, roberts daughter will be Part time coaching our team. since my old Coach stepped down as coach due to her work schedule we've been unable to find a replacement.

Neighbor bob lives down there in that lovely 7 bedroom home. I once dropped our wireless phone off our deck and Robert ahd to go knock on bob's door and ask permission to search for it. He did manage to find the phone but the sliding thingie that holds the battery in disappearedd. Pfffttttttt
Enjoy your day everyone.

A Dry Day

Friday, October 30, 2009

It was a nice dry cloudy day. Still cold though.

We went over to my daughter, Ashley's home and I picked up my Large fairly new Bird Cage and I shall be having Cockateils as pets soon enough.
We gave her a ride to work and ahd dinner at Red Robin and came home.

I'm hoping all of you ahve a fun filled weekend.

wonderful things happen to you.

I am glad you had a good day. I had a cockateil given to us years ago and we didn't continue to clip it's wings. One day it just flew out the door. That was the end of him. I know it was stupid but I never really felt attached to the bird and it was just ignorance about his ability to fly.

I am not a failure

Thursday, October 29, 2009

This week I have made some drastic changes. I'm adding more water to my day. I'm moving around more. I'm making my meals smaller. My portions I mean. I ahve a bad thyroid condition where it's keeping me from losing more weight. Because of my knee walking is difficult. I'm not getting as much cardio in as I was when I first started SP. I am watching what I am eating. Avoiding sweets. My portions ahve not been so good but I am getting better. i vow to not be a casualty of a diabetic related death. I'm doing my best to keep my numbers good. I've lsot 2 lbs. this week. Dr. says my BP is excellent. BS was kind of high at 6.9 my A1C. All other numbers were good on my blood work. the water intake makes me feel great. I actually feel healthy. But just FAT. I shall overcome this. I, like many others ahve never been skinny or thin but in my 20's I did wear a bikini and looked great.

The rain continues...

I am going to start posting everything that I am eating here in my blog.
I track my foods but not accurately because i cannot get the food tracker to track the foods I eat and they don't ahve a diabetics meal plan.

We are eating at Red Robin where Ashley will be my waitress. I'll have a side salad with soup.
Breakfast was 1 oz. cheese and 1 cup cheerios with nonfat milk
Lunch was a trader Joes noodles it's like in a chinese carton called Kung Pao noodles and sauce (kinda thai like hot, hot, hot)
Afternoon snack will be a small apple and slice of turkey
night snack before bed will be aobut 10 almonds

And guess who is my favorite Poetess???

Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the
success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult
task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy
in overcoming obstacles.

Would Glucosamine be suitable for your knee problem? I've taken it before and it made a big difference, I experienced far less pain on getting off the sofa, going up and down steps, etc.

The moving around and smaller portions are sure to make a difference. I've read that eating 5 or 6 meals a day is healthier than the 3 larger meals we usually eat.

WAY TO GO on losing those 2 pounds this week!!! You are doing a great job and are definitely not a failure. Remember good things come to those who wait and do what they need to to get to their healthiest. Blessings to you!!
I ate a salad with my dinner tonight and ordered the dressing on the side. When the waitess gathered up my dishes, she asked me if I didn't like the dressing. The dressing was fine, I am just a dipper so only used just a little bit. Everyone at the table starting laughing after she left because she looked so confused...

Of course you're not a failure! As I've read often enough, it took us a long time to get where we are, so it will take time to get away from where we are. And you're losing weight and you BP is good. Sugar is harder to get under control, but it will come.

I tried to comment on yesterday's post, but it wasn't working.... either you'll have a dozen of the same thing from me or nothing.... In case it's nothing this is what I wrote:

Hair looks great! It suits you.
