Why Everyone Should Own A...

DOG!!

So, we didn't get to walk the last few days because of the rain. My Emma is depressed! She misses her doggie friends. She misses her endorphins! She doesn't understand why the rain stops our daily routine!! So, I check the window, looks like a break in the clouds?!

Okay...I'm being really optimistic at this point for Emma! But, I must confess...I'm missing my endorphins!! It's just not the same walking on the treadmill. Actually, I HATE the treadmill! I watch the minutes tick away and it seems like FOREVER! I would rather walk outside. I would rather tackle the hike up the hill (that is more challenging than the steepest incline on the treadmill!)

So I put on my walking shoes...Emma is REALLY excited at this point! She starts jumping around...slipping on my wood floors. Calm down girl---we are GOING! I put on my earmuffs and we are off! Boy, it's chilly out. But, I know as soon as we start climbing, I will warm up! Halfway up the trail one of Emma's doggie friends (Krusher, who I call Rufus--he just looks like a Rufus! Can't help it!! emoticon ) shows up! He's a scary, but friendly guy! Really likes to sniff my girls privates (and she does NOT like it!!) We make it to the top, start heading down when I spot the neighbors dog. Now, I wouldn't mind another fur-baby joining the party, but this particular neighbor 'warned' us that her dogs can be mean and attack! HELLO...if your dog is vicious, PLEASE, keep them locked up! Grrrr...... So, back up the hill I go before "Killer" spots me! I go find a big stick (I will play Mama Bear and defend my cub!) The added bonus here is that I got more exercise/steps in!! Yippee... Headed back down the hill, and the "killer" dog is now gone! Thank goodness...I really didn't want a fight on my hands!

We made it home, dry!! No rain!!

Emma is now smiling!! As an added bonus for her, I threw the ball in the yard for a few minutes!!

There really was a break in the clouds...

Everyday my dog, Emma, waits patiently for our hike. She doesn't like excuses. She keeps me on track!!

Thanks Emma...

WOW this Mama Bear is proud of her CUB...Nice story...Kind of glad I was out of town...You know me~I DON'T like the killer dog..He scares me mainly because of Emma...I could handle him if he attacked me but if he hurt my Granddoggie I might have to do him in.. emoticon emoticon

What a nice walk complete with killer dogs, stormy clouds emoticon and conquering of hills. Don't think I like the sniffing one though. Back off Rufus!! Sounds like you had a great workout and don't worry, brighter days are ahead. emoticon

Moving on...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

I've moved on to Phase 3! emoticon Lifestyle Change!!

Is this a diet?? NO! This is the new me! I want to be the me I've always been on the inside. The girl who hikes and bikes and enjoys every minute of life. Not the "fluffy" girl who is too tired after walking upstairs, that I need to take a break!! LOL...The girl who has dreams to fulfill, but is 'waiting' for the day I feel comfortable in my own skin to act on those dreams! I'm not waiting any more!! I'm working on becoming the INNER me!! No holding me back now!!

I want to EXPERIENCE life and not watch it float on by!

I'm definitely in this for ME. To be the best me I can be!! This isn't about losing the weight and going back to the old ways. This is about CHANGE!!

So, on to Phase 3...LIFESTYLE Change!!

One of the action steps this week was to find a quote that would be my personal motto for inspiration! Boy, I found a lot of great quotes on Spark People!

My personal motto quote for the day is.................

What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you are saying. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Just love that!! Today, that is speaking to me...

Sorry to see that you are feeling melancholy. Have you ever read the book called, "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale? It's an older book, but still has good advice for today. I love getting books like that from the library. It's free, gives me a reason to get out, and I get some informative stuff to chew on! emoticon

Where did I go WRONG???

Saturday, March 06, 2010

Having a rough day...and I thought I would blog it!

I changed my weigh-in day from Sunday to Saturday last week, to join a challenge on one of my team's. So, I weighed in this morning, and I'm UP 2.1 lbs!! I have no idea why?? Unless it's the stress?? I'm unemployed and desperately trying to find a job...have been stressed about that this week as my savings account is close to gone!

I drink a TON of water! Have stayed well within my calories everyday. Have STOPPED eating out...and man, I used to eat out ALL THE TIME!!! Have gone from a girl six weeks ago with NO exercise, to really committing everyday (with a couple of exceptions) to exercising...and exercising HARD!!

I'm trying to convince myself that it MUST be the stress or water weight or....??? This is when I usually get SOOOO frustrated, that I QUIT!!!

I WILL NOT BE QUITTING!!!

I'm gonna fight through this set-back and come through the other side victorious!!!

DON'T PANIC. This, too, shall pass.

You didn't necessarily go wrong; just think about how much stronger and healthier you are now than you were before. That's an asset right there, isn't it?

Keep doing what you're doing and the weight loss will follow--just keep telling yourself that you're gaining muscle.

Hi Debbie -- I know how disheartening a weight gain can seem after you know you've done a good job with your diet and fitness. From what I understand, weight can fluctuate so widely from day to day, and even within the same day. It's good that you said you won't quit even though I know you're a little discouraged. I say keep doing what you're doing and the weight will eventually come off. Here's two links to a couple of articles I've read on SP that explain weight gain after exercising: I'm also going to email them to you as I think you'll be able to just click on them from email.

emoticon Just stay strong! This too shall pass! Yes, stress does keep you from loosing so you might try some of the stress relief exercises that Spark offers. Have you measured lately? I find that even if the scale goes up some, I have still lost inches which means that I gained muscle and that weighs more than fat. But stick with it, you'll find a job and start to see the number on the scale turn south soon, I just know it! ;D

March Goals & Motivators

Monday, March 01, 2010

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been challenged to 'document' my March goals and motivators by my Team Leader (thanks for the gentle push!!)

GOALS:

1. To post at least five (5) blogs---this is quite a challenge for me!! I won't count this as one...:)
2. To do 30 minutes of cardio EVERY day! I'm shooting for a monthly total of 1000 minutes!!
3. To drink twelve (12) glasses of water EVERY day! Eight is a little on the easy side---this should be a challenge!!
4. To start riding my stationary bike---challenge is twice a week for 15 minutes each trip!
5. To start using my CardioGlide...challenge is twice a week & to build up to 15 minutes by the end of the month! That is quite a challenge also, I have BAD shoulders!!

MOTIVATORS:

1. To hit my personal weight loss goal of 10 pounds for the month!!
2. To wear some of the 'next size down' clothes from my closet. I can get them on and zipped, but not sure right now I could actually 'breathe' in them all day!! LOL...
3. To hear from someone "Wow, are you losing weight??" Haven't heard that yet...
4. Family Reunion in July!! Really want to not feel so self-conscious this year!!
5. To be stronger, healthier...have committed to a triathlon in September...need to really work up to that! It's a 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike ride, 3.5 mile run! I DON'T want to be the last one to finish...and I REALLY want to finish!!!
