Oh the pain!

Oh the pain! I am soooooo sore today. I didn't feel it too much this morning, but I went for a 40 minute swim at 1 today. I came home to shower and dress then sat down to relax for a few minutes. I got up out of the recliner to take my grandson home and O...M...G....it hit me that quickly. My abs are very sore, my biceps and triceps are so very sore....I couldn't hardly move. I just did 2 sets of 12 reps on the weight machines but boy did I get a workout. I did not do any strengthening today, but will be going in to do some tomorrow. I think I will stick with 2 sets of 12 reps for a few days before increasing the amount of sets. I am doing 30 to 40 pounds on most machines, though I did do 160 on the leg press. I used to be able to leg press about 300 pounds, but didn't even try this time because of my knee. I was going from one machine to another so quickly that I worked up a sweat and could feel my heart rate was up.

I am going to focus on strengthening exercises tomorrow and then ride the recumbent bike. If I have time, I will swim as well, but if not I will go swimming Tuesday. I am trying to limit my strengthening exercises to every other day so that my muscles can heal....which is obviously a good thing considering how sore I am today. I am planning on taking at least two water aerobics classes a week. I really like water aerobics because you switch from one activity to another and the time goes by quickly....just like it does in the weight room. Just swimming laps is almost as boring as walking on the treadmill! Today I switched back and forth between swimming laps and treading water. The recumbent bike gets boring too, but I am going to take a book with me and see if that helps.

I went to the YMCA this afternoon, intending to swim after a workout in the weight rooms and cycling. I had just barely started and noticed my throat was feeling sore. I did the weights and rode on a recumbent bike for 10 minutes and had to stop. I think we have a cold front moving in...whatever it is everyone I know has some kind of cold or allergy problems right now. I hope it is better tomorrow as I really want to go swimming!

  


Drinking Tea!

I have often heard that drinking tea...green or black....is good for you. I love iced tea and I really don't know why I don't drink it more often, but it is something I am going to add back into my diet. I was reading an article about it last night. Researchers at UCLA report that drinking a glass of green or black tea at every meal can reduce your risk of stroke by 21%! I have also heard that drinking tea is very good for the urinary tract! Since I like my tea without any sweetener this would be a really good drink for me that has some flavor without the calories.

I have read that black tea has the same health benefits as green tea, just not in as high a level. I think I will start taking tea to work with me too....maybe it will help me resist the Mountain Dew...I just get tired of plain old water and researchers say that artificial sweeteners can sabotage weight loss efforts just like drinking sodas can. So, I think I will make a gallon of tea when I get home from work, drink a glass or two while I relax a little.

I ate over 1300 calories yesterday and will come in over 1300 calories today as well....but only because I drank a Mountain Dew at work both days.

    Loose tea is the best. I say this because of the variety! There is a little bulk food store in my area that sells all these incredible loose teas. I don't use sweetener either who needs it in Lemon Coconut Creme, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Chocolate Hazelnut, Blue Lady, Huckleberry.
Or green teas, Papaya Green, Orange Blossom Green, Mango Green, Strawberry Margarita Green.
Yum!!
So many more are available, I hope you can find someplace near you that sells these kinds of varieties. Our store always has a tea and a coffee flavor to sample. Which is probably why I have so many in my kitchen.

Cravings

I was still having a problem with cravings this morning and early in the afternoon, but it has gotten better. I committed to not eating anything after dinner, which will be 6:30 or 7. I just finished my dinner and logged all of my food. I came in at 1,049 calories for today.....just a little below my 1200 calorie goal. I ate pretty healthy today too. Whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a boiled egg for breakfast, 93% lean ground beef at lunch, mozzarella cheese from partially skim milk, fresh fruit for snacks, salmon, salad, broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower for dinner. I am stuffed after eating all that food for dinner. I will not be eating anything else tonight. I will have whole wheat toast and two boiled eggs for breakfast in the morning and I have prepared a healthy lunch of 6 multi-grain crackers, 2 ounces mozzarella cheese, and 1 serving of chicken lunch meat for lunch tomorrow and have fresh fruit to take for a snack at work. Roasted chicken for dinner tomorrow evening with salad and some kind of veggie. Oh....and of course, my gallon of water! Glug, glug, glug! lol I am really watching what goes into my mouth and when it goes in. I don't think my body knows what to think of this thing of eating meals/snacks at the same time every day. I suspect that is part of my problem with cravings; instead of eating a healthy snack/meal when I feel hungry, I am trying to eat on a schedule and I just haven't adjusted to that yet. I am going to give it some time and see what happens. I sure hope it gets better, and I really do think it will, especially when I start going to the YMCA again because I will be too busy to think of food all the time.

One thing I am going to do different tomorrow is add apples back into my diet. I used to snack on apples and ate 1 to 2 of them every day. I got a little tired of them, but supposedly apples actually help you lose weight, so I am going to add them back in. It is also getting harder to find nectarines and apples are in season. So, I will be taking a couple of apples to work with me tomorrow. It is better to mix things up a little anyway.

I do know one thing for sure....drinking all of this water sure is hard on me during the school day.....fortunately there is a bathroom right across the hall from the room I will be in tomorrow, but that is not true most days. lol

Today is weigh-in day for me. I weigh myself every day, but Monday is my official weekly weigh-in. For the past 2 weeks, I have not made any progress. I think the reason for that is not so much what I have been eating, but my lack of exercise. Since the pool closed I have not done much of anything as far as physical activity; until yesterday. I went for two 10 minute bike rides, a short walk, and up and down one flight of stairs. When I stepped on the scale this morning it had gone down a pound. I also only ate 1037 calories yesterday. I guess the combination of exercise and not eating much paid off for me. It just goes to show that eating right is not enough....I have to be exercising too!
