I am glad to hear there are hints of spring back in the midwest. I know I am very blessed to be here in San Diego. All I need to do is close me eyes and I can remember the winters only too well back in Michigan. Wet and cold and oh so long.
Enjoy the sun! emoticon

Yeah I am tired of the rain and being sick. So was glad to get out walking today too. It is a bit cool for here but sunny.
Glad it stopped snowing for a while. emoticon

Well, it is two days later but we have partly sunny and 68 this afternoon after a drizzly morning so I am going to go outside and find something useful to do! emoticon

Lol! Were I your boss, I'd give you the thumbs up (and join you). What a wonderful way to enjoy lunch. Even better to have colleagues with whom to share a healthy habit.

Eye trouble.
I just couldn't "see" going to work!

Count me in for playing hooky!
Isn't the weather incredibly amazing after all the natural disasters we had! Or is it us who feel regerenate by the upcoming Spring and its longer days?

And congrats to you for jogging with your colleagues, and for seeing the silver lining!

Waters Of March

Sunday, March 07, 2010

Such a DELIGHTFUL weekend this has been...! SO much sunshine, blue skies and best of all: hours and hours spent outside Nordic walking / jogging...!

I've been feeling SO inspired during my outdoor times. I thought I would share a few pics of today's walk during which the song "Waters of March" was duly conjured (here's a link to my most FAVORITE version of that song by Oscar Castro-Neves...in which he captures the playful nature of this Brasilian masterpiece by the incomparable Antonio Carlos Jobim www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g3-7M51Tns ), since I walked along some of our local rivers. Here are a few pics of our great outdoors. We may grumble about our extreme weather here in upstate New York, but we truly are blessed by beautiful surroundings!

I had great support from my tunes as usual...tunes like "Are You Gonna Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by Creedence Clearwater Revival...their rendition reminds me of my old high school rock band days when we'd play the school dances and have a blast!

Hey, late again...everyone have a super week! I know mine will be SO much better for having gotten my double dose of the outdoors this weekend! :-)

Inspiring scenery. The photos bring your home to life; I like your compositional eye. We have the UCD Arboretum that gives a similar feel just 2 miles away, where I end my weekend downtown runs (meeting DH for breakfast). Thanks for taking time to share the pictures, Don!

I'm so glad I live in upstate New York! (Although it would be nice if they could get the budget figured out, and I'm getting a bit tired of the Albany scandals, and taxes are kind of high... - but that's NY as a whole, not just upstate.)
Thanks for sharing your pictures, Don!

What lovely photos!!! Thanks for generously sharing the riches, Don. I can fairly FEEL that delight!

I'm blown away by the Oscar Castro-Neves' version of "Waters of March." I know well and love Antonio Calos Jobim's version of his masterpiece, but this is splendid. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFG
QtGJZto8). I hope you don't mind me adding the terrific lyrics...to add a bit more to your wonderful blog:

A stick, a stone, it's the end of the road
It's the rest of a stump, it's a little alone
It's a sliver of glass, it is life, it's the sun
It is night, it is death, it's a trap, it's a gun
The oak when it blooms, a fox in the brush
A knot in the wood, the song of a thrush
The wood of the wind, a cliff, a fall
A scratch, a lump, it is nothing at all
It's the wind blowing free, it's the end of the slope
It's a beam it's a void, it's a hunch, it's a hope
And the river bank talks of the waters of March
It's the end of the strain
The joy in your heart
The foot, the ground, the flesh and the bone
The beat of the road, a slingshot's stone
A fish, a flash, a silvery glow
A fight, a bet the fange of a bow
The bed of the well, the end of the line
The dismay in the face, it's a loss, it's a find
A spear, a spike, a point, a nail
A drip, a drop, the end of the tale
A truckload of bricks in the soft morning light
The sound of a shot in the dead of the night
A mile, a must, a thrust, a bump,
It's a girl, it's a rhyme, it's a cold, it's the mumps
The plan of the house, the body in bed
And the car that got stuck, it's the mud, it's the mud
A float, a drift, a flight, a wing
A hank, a quail, the promise of spring
And the river bank talks of the waters of March
It's the promise of life, it's the joy in your heart
A stick, a stone, it's the end of the road
It's the rest of a stump, it's a little alone
A snake, a stick, it is John, it is Joe
It's a thorn in your hand and a cut in your toe
A point, a grain, a bee, a bite
A blink, a buzzard, a sudden stroke of night
A pin, a needle, a sting a pain
A snail, a riddle, a wasp, a stain
A pass in the mountains, a horse and a mule
In the distance the shelves rode three shadows of blue
And the river talks of the waters of March
It's the promise of life in your heart
A stick, a stone, the end of the road
The rest of a stump, a lonesome road
A sliver of glass, a life, the sun
A knife, a death, the end of the run
And the river bank talks of the waters of March
It's the end of all strain, it's the joy in your heart

Beautiful scenery DOn....and to think it's right here by us! Makes me want to go out and walk/run..do something. Wouldn't it be great if someone were to video this local scenery really slowly, so it could be made into a home walking/biking video? I would buy it for sure! Not the same as being outside, soaking up all of that Vitamin D, but it would put me in a better mood! Have a great, sunny day all! emoticon

Thanks for sharing your surroundings, and your walk!

I know the Portuguese version of this song, but it's the first time I hear it in English... At least, I can now understand the lyrics, but I find the original version sunnier.

Great pics! I love walking by the river and water but don't get out there much now. Are those foot bridges? We have one similar to the 2nd pic here in Minneapolis but it carries auto traffic. It's much warmer now and after my move, I hope to get some outdoor walks in when weather permits. We do have one wooden bridge for foot traffic near downtown Minneapolis along the Mississippi and I keep wanting to explore that. Hopefully this spring or summer.

Thanks for the great incentive - very few would resist walking in that scenery!

Here's a fun video which captures the *spirit* of how I sometimes feel when I'm on my treadmill, however I know how to prevent broken limbs...lol!

Had another fun round of Nordic Walking while on my lunch break today...lovin' the sunshine, even if it IS accompanied by lots of cold gusts...!

Great video! That's how I feel on the elliptical sometimes. It's like dancing and the people on the treadmills behind me at the gym get quite the show! Running on the treadmill seems a little more boring, but it does peel the weight off -- though it's harder on the joints and I'm rethinking my determination to be a runner...
Thanks for the great post!

Sparkin' Day!

Thursday, March 04, 2010

Just a quick note...great day today, started off with my standard 3 miles @ 5 mph, 10 incline...gorgeous day outside, around 40, blue sunny skies...some colleagues were getting out for a walk in the park during the noon hour so I joined in, grabbing my Nordic Poles for some pumped up walk/jogging. Later got out with some clients for some old-fashioned fun bowling!

Signed up our local SparkTeam for our local American Heart Association Heart Walk in April...woo hoo!

Late, bed calls...night all!

Same here, great day. Finished trimming the 5 bushes at the house behind me. Now have tiny bits of debris to clean up, used tarps to catch the majority of the trimmings. Did a little on my own yard. Also worked hard rearranging our 'office equipment - computers, tables, etc.' DH liked it very much when he got home. Trying to unwind so I will sleep tonight.
