Drum Roll...

Friday, February 05, 2010

Yeah, yet ANOTHER blog...lol

This has been a RED-Letter Day for me!

A fellow member of SparkPeople (CHRIS3215) mentioned that she was going to be on the Dr. Oz show for the 100th episode they plan to have 100 people on the show who have lost 100+ pounds and have kept it off.

Hmmm...got to thinking...I'VE done that...so I asked her about it and she helped me to connect to Dr. Oz's staff and batta-BING! I'm IN! Woo hoo! :-)

I had been uncertain for a few days, as one of the requirements also had been that the weight had to be lost via non-weight-loss-surgery methods. I informed via phone conversation that while I HAD weight loss surgery back in the 1980s, I blew it and gained all the weight back. But THIS TIME I lost the weight via healthy eating and exercise. The staff person didn't point blank tell me I was in, however she DID ask my shirt size as the 100 guests will have to wear a Dr. Oz shirt on the show.

It wasn't until just minutes ago I received the official e-mail notice PLUS a phone call from the same staff person confirming that I am IN!!!

I am so PSYCHED! Looking forward to being able to somehow speak a syllable or two about SparkPeople while the cameras are rolling. However I have NO idea what opportunity I'll have to speak with 100 of us present. Somehow, however, by hook or crook, I'm sure that between CHRIS3215 and I we will be able to champion SparkPeople's cause!

And here is the OTHER BIG NEWS!

For WEEKS I have been hitting the wall with my weight. Fluctuating between 202 and 205 or so...so close, yet seemingly so far...

NOW? I am DETERMINED to BREAK THROUGH 200 by next Weds. when I am on the show!

This has me so stratospherically REVVED I just absolutely KNOW I CAN DO THIS!!

BIGTIME THANKS to CHRIS3215 and the rest of my SparkFamily!

ps...here is the e-mail I rec'd:

First Person Declarative!

Friday, February 05, 2010

We all need to take care of ourselves and to put our needs first, above all else. This is not being selfish, it's a fundamental, core belief I have that if we don't take care of ourselves FIRST, we cannot be there for others in the way that we need to, want to. During my morning jog on the 'mill a couple of songs came up that seemed to celebrate this message SO WELL!

Paula Cole - Me

Listen on Pandora here:

I am not the person who is singing
I am the silent one inside
I am not the one who laughs at people's jokes
I just pacify their egos
I am not my house, my car, my songs
They are only just stops along my way
I am like the winter
I'm a dark cold female
With a golden ring of wisdom in my cave

And it is me who is my enemy
Me who beats me up
Me who makes the monsters
Me who strips my confidence

I am carrying my voice
I am carrying my heart
I am carrying my rhythm
I am carrying my prayers
But you can't kill my spirit
It's soaring and it's strong
Like a mountain
I'll go on and on
But when my wings are folded
The brightly colored moth
Blends into the dirt into the ground

And it's me who's too weak
And it's me who's too shy
To ask for the thing I love
And it's me who's too weak
And it's me who's too shy
To ask for the thing I love
That I love

I am walking on the bridge
I am over the water
And I'm scared as hell
But I know there's something better
Yes I know there's something
Yes I know, I know, yes I know

That I love (5 times overlapping chorus)

But it's me
And it's me
But it's me

And the next song is from Paul Simon's album Graceland: Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes

Listen on Pandora here:

Lyrics here:

She's a rich girl
She don't try to hide it,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

He's a poor boy,
Empty as a pocket with nothing to lose
Sing Ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
ta na na
Ta na na na
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes

People say she's crazy
She got diamonds on the soles of her shoes,
Well that's one way to lose these
Walking blues,
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

She was physically forgotten
but then she, slipped into my pocket
With my car keys,
She said you've taken me for granted
Because I please you
Wearing these dia-monds,

And I could say Oo oo oo,
As if everybody knows
What I'm talking about,
As if everybody here would know
Exactly what I was talking about,
Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes,

She makes the sign of a teaspoon
He makes the sign of a wave,
The poor boy changes clothes
And puts on after-shave,
To compensate for his ordinary shoes,

And she said honey take me dancing
But they ended up by sleeping
In a doorway,
By the bodegas and the lights on
Upper Broadway,
Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes,

And I could say Oo oo oo
and if everybody here would know
What I was talking about
I mean everybody here would know exactly
What I was talking about
Talking about diamonds,

People say I'm crazy
I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes yeah,
Well that's one way to lose
These walking blues,
diamonds on the soles of my shoes

Now this last song...on the remastered copy there is a previously unreleased version of this song which I ESPECIALLY love! It is just Simon and back up vocals with only one instrument playing along: Bakithi Kumalo from South Africa just poppin' & slidin' along on his fretless bass...how the man can GROOVE! I know I've raved about Graceland before, but seeing the comments at Amazon of people just breaking out in dance while working around the house listening to this music makes me smile and want to boogie-woogie right now!

And for me here is the take-home message of Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes:

*I* can celebrate the DIAMONDS on the soles of MY shoes!

*WE ALL* have DIAMONDS on the Soles of OUR Shoes!

Some of us just don't KNOW it yet...!

And today I'm just shouting out gratitude to my SparkFamily for helping me to find my *DIAMONDS* and sending out to all you newbies my fond wishes expectations and anticipation of YOUR discovery of the Diamonds on the Soles of YOUR Shoes! Woo hoo!

Have a SPARKIN' Day Everyone!

Celebrating Sunshine...!

Not enough snow for cross country skiing...yet!

So plan B...? Break out the Nordic walking poles and make like I'm skiing without the snow or skis...lol!

Couple of Nordic walking clips if anyone is curious to know more:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e7SvftztRg www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3VIVlYNIv4

Had such a wonderful time! Really getting the hang of this Nordic walking and feeling the benefit up in my shoulders and upper back! Beautiful sunshiney day and worked up a nice sweat, wishing I hadn't worn my coat...! Unzipped it at least...! Kicked it up a notch here and there and even started jogging along with the poles. I keep getting *impatient* with this "walking" business...may make a runner out of myself yet! :-)

Well, off to bed, guarding my sleep...keep SPARKING out there everyone!

You live in New York? Anywhere around Newburg? We used to live there and I loved the winter. You'd get these big wet blanket snows but the mountains blocked out that vicious wind. Winter Outlets: Going, Going, GONE...?

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

A fellow member of SparkPeople (MIKIIO) posted a lovely blog about cross country skiing and a variant called ski skating. She included a couple of demonstrations from YouTube in her blog:

and ski skating:

It reminded me of the exhilaration which appealed to me about cross country skiing and I thought: 'Hey! I wanted to get back out there and take another crack at this!' The winter is half over and our snow is all gone from warm temps and rainstorms. So far there just hasn't been enough snow at the right temperatures...grrr! I am going to have to be more vigilant to make sure an opportunity doesn't slide right by without taking advantage of it!

I had a late workout tonight, as I overslept this morning, even though I went to bed on time...but I've been running the well dry lately, shorting myself of too much sleep. During the workout in my mix on the mp3 player came along an unlikely song. I DO have a few slow ones here and there as I listen to my music at other times besides workouts. Even though I was doing strength training and this music HARDLY suggests that activity, I was entranced by this mellow, jazzy, utterly de-stressing, soothing and relaxing tune by Madeline Peyroux, "Half The Perfect World:"

So if you've got a notion give this a listen and let the music transport you to a serene place such as basking in a tropical sun while lolling about on an air mattress floating on crystal blue water where the warmth is just perfect and one has not a care in the world. Or let it be your lullaby and head to bed as I am so I don't short myself on my sleep again tonight...lol!

Since by Christmas we had had no snow I said let's wait. To make a long story short I have never yet needed the gaiters or purchased the snow shoes and I totally understand your frustration!

Congrats on following your Plan B and on doing your workout in the evening. If you overslept, it means your body needed it, and it is so important to sleep well.
I didn't know Madeleine Peyroux, very nice song, so soft like a whisper in my ear. I just woke up, I can't head back to bed, although this idea is appealing! ;)
