Moved A Ton...

...of wood pellets for the stove today...50 - 40# bags...loaded 'em into the van, stacked 'em up on the porch! Was whupped afterwards, but still managed to push myself on the treadmill for 40 mins. and enjoyed myself...the music pumping from all four corners of the room just INFUSES and invigorates me!

I was reminded during my treadmill session (mostly HAND'S FREE...woo hoo!) of a recent reality TV show I saw featuring this fellow who literally flew...jumped off a cliff and had these baggy canvas clothes which made him look like a human flying squirrel. He had a camera filming his flight on his helmet so you could really get a sense of what it was like...what a RUSH!

Until he hit the cliff...lol...whole lotta bleepin' going on! But that feeling of flying reminded me of recurring dreams I had as a kid of flying. Wishful thinking, I suppose, somehow to shed my pounds and fly...which I HAVE!

During my treadmill session some songs inspired me to hold my arms out as if I was pulling power from the music to lift me into flight...! (hey, maybe these batwings might come in handy after all! :-) )

    Alrighty then! So are you gonna set a goal to try sky-diving in the future!? LOL I know what you mean about wanting to take flight when you're having a great workout - Runner's High! emoticon

Triple Play Day!

Thank you Mother Nature for handing me a TRIPLE PLAY DAY!

Due to the snowy conditions today was yet another SNOW DAY! This meant a two hour delay before having to be at work. Since I received notice before I had hopped on my treadmill, it meant I could:

1) go back to SLEEP for another HOUR...!

2) wake up and do 55 mins. on my treadmill instead of the usual 35-45 mins.!

and the healthy FROSTING on this bountiful CAKE?

3) more cardio opportunities by getting out to SHOVEL my way outta the driveway!

Woo Hoo! :-)

Everyone keep on SPARKING out there!

Double Cardio...Seeking Balance

Well I did it: a second round on my treadmill last night to "make up" for missing my cardio on my "who pulled the plug" Sunday...lol!

PLUS I got right up to nail my cardio and strength-building this morning.

As I've been working on all of this, recognizing my need to jealously guard my sleep, along with my struggles doing cross country skiing downhill I realized the common denominator between all of this has been to somehow maintain better BALANCE...

Between doing for others / doing for myself
Between time for work / family / friends
Between being critical of myself / praising of myself
Between moving forward and learning from the past
Between acceptance of others / acceptance of myself

A member of my group therapy "graduated" a while back and as a parting gift she passed around a bag of smooth "worry stones" for each of us to pick. We reached into the bag and chose our stone and there was a word imprinted on the stone. My stone had the word "balance" on it...the symbol of Libra, my sun-sign...always able to see and weigh both sides to everything...except somewhere along the way I developed blinders for myself and have too often found it all too easy to lose myself in relation to my sense of being there for others.

My focus on physical health has been one way that I strive to "be there" for ME! I know there are other ways for me to "be there" for myself as well and I continue to work on them step by step.

    Oh, Don, I'm a Libra, too, but we can "sit on the fence" to long looking at both sides of an issue. ACTION gets results, so we have to learn to TRUST ourselves and go with a decision.

One of my favorite sayings is NO DECISION IS A DECISION.

Who Pulled The Plug?!?!

Wow! Yesterday was like no day I've had in a VERY long time!

I was totally without any energy or ambition whatsoever...my Spark had up and gone without any warning, rhyme or reason. I slept in till noon and when I woke up got about listlessly fumbling through some household cleaning, helping my DW halfheartedly with some big batch cooking and before long I got back in bed and zonked for another few hours.

I had no other symptoms beyond just being totally "all in!" Guess it was my day to crash and burn...after another night's sleep of 8 hours last night I'm feeling pretty much back up to snuff, although not exactly bursting with energy.

My biggest disappointment was that there was just no way I could muster a cardio workout yesterday. Everyone out there in Sparkland has been SOOO supportive and a great cheerleading squad, I REALLY wanted to, but just didn't have it in me yesterday. Got today's cardio done first thing, up on my 'mill. I'm considering "cheating" and doing a 2nd cardio session later today (which I NEVER do!) and designating that as "yesterday's" workout...lol! We'll see!

Whew, glad that is over now! Guess it is a lesson on just how important sleep is! I have never short-changed myself a LOT, an hour here and there...but I guess it piles up until the body says: "Hey you! You are going to STOP in your tracks RIGHT NOW and get the rest you need!" Wa-BAM! :-)

  Being sleepy, tired and unmotivated.....just nature's way of saying "slow down". You can't be all out, all the time. Accept down time for what it is....a chance to slow down and recharge. emoticon

To Streak or Not To Streak...?

Yesterday I gave myself the pleasure of a good swift kick in the behind and when I was SORELY tempted to skip my cardio and strength-training I finally got up and did it at one of my latest times yet...beginning at 10:30pm!

I just knew I couldn't live with myself if I broke my cardio streak...haven't missed a day of cardio since January 7th...woo hoo!

Let's see if I can reclaim my earlier groove when I first started SparkPeople and go 30, 60 or maybe even 90 days without missing a single day of cardio...!
