Less Buoyant?

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I went swimming Sunday...first time since the middle of December. I went in, expecting it would be a piece of cake, because I am in much better shape now. Well, to my surprise, losing more weight, converting more fat to muscle, I found it so much harder to keep afloat!!! I guess that layer of fat really made swimming easier for me! I may be leaner and more fit, but clearly I'm less buoyant, too! A trade off I'm willing to deal with! ;)

Funny! Congrats on the weightloss. I guess less buoyancy = more exercise when swimming = more calories burnt?

My husband is quite lean and he barely floats - I always say that he has 'heavy bones' :)

natural weight

Saturday, March 19, 2011

I'm wondering what my "natural" weight is. I've hit another plateau...Between 182 an 187, generally right around 184.6. Not the number I really want to see on the scale. I'm squeezing into some 8's and wearing 10's mostly. My goal is size 6, so if/when I "bounce" back up a bit, it would be into 8's.

I'm feeling tired a bit. Perhaps need to start taking a multivitamin again. I used to be great about taking them. But have slacked in recent months. Maybe iron, too. Could be that's just the boost I need to get over this last hump, so close to my goal. I don't want to lose it now! I've been so good for 9.5 months! I can do it...I can! Just need to find the missing energy again!

Congrats on losing so much weight!! You're doing great, and obviously the last few pounds are the hardest. I've been struggling with the last 10 pounds for about 5 years! Baby steps....

Sound like you are on the right path. Don't let this lull get you down because it happens to all of us. I am stuggling getting back on the horse and getting on the right path. Stay positive and hang in there.

Plugging along...

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

...although life occasionally throws curve balls my way, I'm doing ok! I'm not eating over crisis. Not using crisis as an excuse to not exercise. In fact, finding that I NEED, more than ever, to exercise when I'm upset. I'm not disenchanted that problems still pop up. Sometimes bad things just happen. It's how you deal with those bads things that defines a person. I will not hibernate and eat. I will continue on with my exercise and healthy eating. I will keep plugging along!

How no progress can really be progress...

Sunday, March 13, 2011

I keep a food and exercise journal and send them to my fitness coach every two weeks. Today, when I weighed in, Day 14 of this phase, I was exactly where I was two weeks ago. This thrilled me! No, I'm not at maintenance. But I had one heck of a difficult, crazy two weeks! We had to do some traveling, we got snowed in by an unexpected storm, our son had some medical problems and was hospitalized. CRAZY two weeks. I managed to get to the gym, even if not as often as usual. I didn't eat over all the unexpected, difficult events. I stuck to my plan as much as possible. (With traveling and staying with other people, meal times were not as regimented as I do them...)

I have always been a stress eater. I was severely stressed most of these last 2 weeks. I did not once stress eat. For that, I'm proud, grateful, happy. I may not have lost any weight, but I gained a tremendous amount of satisfaction in knowing I've forever changed my relationship to food and exercise!

Oh...and I did manage to wear two different size 8 pants to work...so even if the pounds aren't coming off, changes are still being made! :D

Yes, this is a great attitude to have and one I am also adopting. There is nothing wrong with maintaining as long as the general trend is in the right direction.

Nice article. I"m recovering from a knee injury and gained a lot of weight and it's hard to take it off. My doctor says although I may not be losing weight, the exercise keeps me from gaining weight. It's good for the heart to exercise anyway, even though there may not be weight loss. I"m going to a family party today and the food is always too much there. If I don't gain, it'll be a success, as you showed you did so well in your article. Dave
