Been "away" for a while...

Monday, August 09, 2010

I'm back. Was doing the GE 7 day detox/cleansing diet. It was super tough...but I'm on the last day and feel like I can get through it. I'm supposed to feel mentally alert, emotionally calm and SUPPOSED to be 7 - 10 pounds lighter by tomorrow morning. I'm down about three pounds, which in a week isn't bad, but certainly isn't anywhere near 7 - 10 pounds! (which is a much healthier amount to lose in a week, I know!)

Sciatica is completely fine now. Phew! Back to doing 3 mile walk in 45 minutes again. Even the "gushy" knee feels pretty good!

Gotta run...shower, laundry, shopping, errands...busy Monday!

Hi, Kim! So glad you're sciatica is getting better, and good for you for taking on a cleanse! I've always wanted to try one but not sure I can do it--let me know how it all goes once you're done. Would love to get your recommendations!

Feeling better...

Friday, July 30, 2010

After a second trip to the chiropractor and some new stretches and exercises to help strengthen the muscles around my sciatic nerve, I'm feeling much better. I did the exercises this morning, did three miles, then iced. Felt good enough after that to mow the yards and weed the gardens. Still feeling pretty good! :D

Going to a BBQ tonight and a birthday party tomorrow, so am cutting my caloric intake throughout both days to make up for that.

Tuesday "Book Club"

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

So a group from work (elementary school) decided to get together last Tuesday for dinner and a couple of drinks. To catch up on how our summer vacation is going. The librarian asked what everyone is reading and one smartass said, "wine labels"...so...it was later decided that we should continue to meet weekly for dinner and "reading"...so for the next few Tuesdays, before school starts back up, I'll be attending "Book Club"!

Since there are more fat and calories in restaurant meals and "books" than I prepare at home, I'm going to have to adjust my intake on Tuesdays to allow for the extra...don't want this new social gathering to negatively affect my weight loss!

I went to the chiropractor yesterday...and I was right...sciatica. He adjusted me and instructed me to stay off Wii for a few days but continue the walking. Did 3 miles in 45 minutes today. Am seriously feeling it right now, too. :( I took Tylenol and applied an Icy Hot patch to my hip and rubbed the roll-on stuff on my ankle, knees and about every inch in between! I MUST get this under control soon!!!

    Hello Camrola!!!

I'm taking it slow-ish...I try not to be, but I'm kind of an "all or nothing" kind of person. I'm not doing Wii for a while. Just the brisk walking and being careful of what goes in my mouth.

"Book Club" was fun! I work with some pretty fun people! I'm off...time to walk! Have a great day!

Hope you feel better! Take it slowly, and remember it's all about balance--the "book" club is important for that, too!

Part two of Monday's blog...

Monday, July 26, 2010

Back from the chiropractor...I self-diagnosed correctly. Sciatica. He adjusted me and suggested Bio-Freeze (cooling gel) to help with the ache of having things "put back"...the pharmacy didn't have that brand, so I got the Icy Hot kind. I do believe it's helping. I'm kind of surprised. I really didn't think it would work.

Anyway, I told him what I've been doing for exercise and he said to continue the walking but lay off the Wii Fit for a couple of days. I'm thinking of going for a nice, easy walk this evening, since I can't do the Wii...I don't know...maybe not. I know me...I'll get out there and listen to the music and there won't be anything nice or easy about it. Maybe I should just do some gardening instead. Yeah...that's my plan...

I'll have to ask my chiropractor where to get it...this Icy Hot helps some, but I'd like to see how the BioFreeze works.

Nothing is as good as that BioFreeze! But it is hard to find. Good luck with your sciatica. I had it on & off and it is NOT fun emoticon

Walking is a great exercise that relieved my husband's sciatica!

Have you checked out the info on sparkpeople on sciatica/exercises for?

Good luck on your progress.

Ouchy

Monday, July 26, 2010

I took the weekend off, to let my leg heal. It felt great yesterday and this morning, so I walked...not as quickly as usual, sort of gently. I got about 1.5 miles in and it started to hurt off and on. Nothing terrible. Just a little bit. So I kept going. Then, when I was nearly finished, I ran into a friend and stopped for about 5 minutes to talk. When I started back up, I felt good again, so I went further than I had originally planned...of course that's my mistake! I did a hill. Going up was fine. Coming down the other side was when it really started hurting again.

The only good thing about it hurting at the end of my walk is that it made me come right in and call the chiropractor. I have a 4:40 appointment today. I'm hoping it will be a simple adjustment and I'll be on my way.
