Okay, so I'm finally back on SparkPeople after a nine month break! Good grief, I could have given birth in that length of time! But since my kids are 21 and nearly 23, I'm glad that was NOT the case!

Anyway, I'm back and I'm doing well...had gotten out of hand and gained back a large chunk of weight. Since my initial large drop of weight, I'd gained back 40 pounds!!! (Not in the last nine months...over a longer period of time than that.) But I'm down 22 of those 40 since June 1st and motivated to lose the rest and then some!

I'm struggling the last couple of days with some sort of nerve pain. I have sciatica problems that usually start in the hip/buttock region and travel down to the ankle. But Thursday and Friday it started in the ankle and moved up! I can't get in to see the chiropractor until next week, so yesterday and today are the first days since June 1st that I haven't exercised. I've cut my food intake back a bit to make up for the more sedentary activity I'm doing until this gets worked out. I'm sure an adjustment will do wonders.

I'm feeling very motivated for the first time in a long, long time. I'm hoping to jump back into sparking regularly and reconnecting with my spark friends! I'm sorry I left you all for so long! Please know I still thought about you, but was in too much of a funk to sign in and see how you were doing. Very selfish, I know.

Anyway, I'm back! And glad to be here!

Darryl and I went on a 4 day mini vacation to West Virginia, where we hiked every day. We ate very healthy organic, local vegetarian foods and came home from vacation a few pounds lighter! We are so inspired to return to West Virginia in April lighter still, and hike the same mountains and see how much easier it will be!!! The community members we stayed with were all so physically fit and they hike all the time. What a great form of exercise. We used to do it when the kids were little...we had gotten away from it. But this past weekend reminded us how much we like it!

Hi, Kim! I'm pleased to hear you were able to get away and had such a wonderful break with your husband. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do, and in fact, I'm embarking on my own hiking break in Baja Calinfornia a little over a week--I can't wait!

It goes to show how important it is that we recognize the things that nurture us and keep striving to make them a part of our lives.

Sounds like an awesome little getaway! My husband and I also have enjoyed hiking the couple times we have done it... I don't know why we don't do it more! Won't it be so fun to go in the spring and go further, faster, and have even more fun!? Woohoo!

Back Among the Living

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

I'm baaaacckk! Finally feeling less than awful! I'm not 100% (Occasional coughing fits) but I'm so much better than I was feeling. A day and a half of complete rest and relaxation and pushing liquids and naps did me a world of good! I'm actually surprised that I can feel so much better so quickly!

Anyway, I'm going back to work today but skipping book club tonight. Don't want to push it on my first day back in circulation.

Thanks! Made it through a full day of work, climbing three flights of stairs multiple times and feeling pretty darn good! Super tired, but otherwise, really good! Am going to hang up the wet laundry and go to bed early with a book...just so glad to be over the bulk of it!

Trying to hold off illness...

Monday, September 28, 2009

So everyone has this nasty cold! I heard them say they sent home someone in the hospital with it, while I was lying around, waiting for surgery, breathing in their germs on Tuesday...on Saturday, everyone at the wedding I was in had it...and today at work, I find everyone's got it. So I took a half day and am on the couch, under a blanket and two little dogs, sipping tea and readying myself for a nap. I have given in to it. It's claimed me and I need to give myself the time to heal. Too many commitments and not enough down time made it impossible for me to avoid catching it. I admit it. I'm sick. There...now with plenty of sleep, water and vitamins, I hope to be over it very soon!

Where will you find the most germs?

Friday, September 25, 2009

In a hospital! Yup...I'm getting sick! Perhaps I was already incubating this before my surgery, but I'm getting a nasty head cold....feel lousy. Sore throat, runny nose, tickly cough, unable to sleep at night. Ugh! And I have a rehearsal tonight and a wedding tomorrow to be in! I'm sure I'll look fantastic, all red-nosed and glassy-eyed.

Oh well...what can you do?! Pop a cold pill and get through the next two days! I'll crash/recover on Sunday!

This is why people get sent home early, because they are used to their own bacteria at home so recover faster. When your in hospital you open yourself to everyone elses bugs and germs. Also some people take being admitted to hospital many act like their dying, if you can walk around do it and save yourself a lunge infection. These lunge infections are due to not being active enough...

Thank you, both! I am drinking lots and lots of water and mint tea...resting as much as my hectic schedule is allowing. (I did sleep in until 7:45 AM this morning! That was nice!) I will survive! It's just a reminder to slow down and take care of myself! Thanks, again!
