We got my grandmother home (with Hospice) yesterday. She's resting comfortably. We're now in the process of setting up a schedule, of who will stay over when, as Hospice only provides 2 hours a day, Monday through Friday.
So...that means I won't be online much for a while...I'll check in as time allows.

My grandmother is dying.
I got a call yesterday, from my uncle. His car is in the shop and he needed me to take my grandmother to the hospital. We got there around 1 PM...many tests, needles, pokes and prods later, we're told she is having a terrible time with her congestive heart failure and she's in renal failure. She has a DNR order in place and wants no heroic measures taken. The decision was to treat the heart failure, knowing it will make the renal failure worse. But it's a less painful way to go. They said she'll likely go through a period of Euphoria, whereas treating the kidneys would make the congestive heart failure worse, which would make her feel like she's drowning.
She's not making a lot of sense now. She's seeing people we don't see. She's talking gibberish and dozing off and on. But she seems at peace and her sense of humor is intact. (The doctor asked her if she itched and she said "I don't have fleas, if that's what you're asking!")
She never complains...the doctor came in and asked how she was doing and she said, "Good." He said, "Well, then what are you doing here?!" She said, "Well, you people treat me so good, I thought I'd come back." What a lady! I'm so proud to be her granddaughter!

Well, I made it through another Christmas. A couple of pounds heavier, though. :~( But I'm resolved to take them off and a few more.
We hosted desserts only at our place for Darryl's family on the 23rd...I stuck to fruit mostly, but did have a very small slice of apple pie. And then I had "real" tea, by mistake (usually do decaf) and was awake until 3 AM!!
We did breakfast at my parents' on the 24th, since my sister and my niece had to work during the afternoon and on Christmas Day. I really liked doing breakfast instead of dinner...there seemed to be a little less "bad" food there. I made wassail. Darryl made a wonderful fritatta, my mother made a vegetable egg bake, we had vegetarian bacon and sausage. There were pancakes and waffles and bagels and cream cheese, coffee cake, muffins, real bacon and sausage, and other foods I didn't partake in. The little kids went sledding and Devon took them for a long walk in the woods and then he made them a lean-to, using branches they collected on their walk. They really had a great time. It was so nice.
Yesterday we ran back over to my parents' as I left my mother's gifts at home. (I crocheted her a hat, scarf, pocketbook and change purse.) Then we dropped off some gifts at my grandmother's house. And then we went to my brother's place, to see what Santa brought the little girls (almost 4 and almost 2). Cassidy, the older one, took Devon and Kate outside to show them her goats and rabbits. They played together out there for a while. My kids are so good with little ones!
On the way home from my brother's, we decided to see if the Chinese place was open, since nobody wanted to cook/dirty the kitchen. It was open, and we had nearly the entire place to ourselves! As we left, there were a couple of other tables there.
We came home and watched A Christmas Story. Then I did some more crocheting, while Darryl dozed on the couch. The kids disappeared in their rooms an I had a very nice, quiet, laid back evening.
Today I'm giving haircuts and then meeting a friend for lunch. I'll have to make good choices there, or those few pounds won't go away!!!
I'm planning to walk to/from the restaurant we're going to...that will be good exercise...sort of cancel out the calories of the meal!
Coffee cup is empty...must remedy that!

Well, I'm FINALLY on vacation. It was the longest week of my life! I'm sure the next one will fly by, though!
Anyway, today is my cleaning house, getting ready for Darryl's family to come over tomorrow night. Which means, wrapping their presents. I haven't wrapped anything yet. I think I may use newspaper to wrap them. I know they'll have some beautiful, expensive wrapping paper, ribbons, labels and such. But I just don't see the use in spending the money to buy it only to rip it off and throw it away. I don't think we're going to wrap our kids' gifts at all...I don't see the sense in wasting even newspaper, which we use for washing windows or paper mache. Or something better than just tearing up.
I'm walking downtown to do some shopping in the local fair trade store, too. If I'm going to spend $$ on gifts, better it's in a local place like that! (I love that store!!!!)
Have to get movin'...much to do today!

Okay, here's an example of how long this week has been...I was thinking I'd been neglecting my SP blog...felt like I hadn't written in it all week, when in fact, I've written every day this week! Ugh!
But today is Thursday, so I'm well over the "hump" and am sure we'll pick up speed now that we're on the downhill side of the week.
I got my rejection letter for DSS yesterday. No surprise since they never even called my references. Guess I must have made quite an impression on them, huh? ( I choose to believe they already had someone lined up for it and just had to post and interview for it...makes me feel less awful.)
I'm up a couple pounds...but I've got some other telltale signs, so I'm guessing I'm getting my menses AGAIN...grrr...
Have to go to work. More next time.
