MYGOSH...WILL THIS WEEK EVER END?! I'm not sure why the week is dragging so badly...probably because it's the last week before a vacation. I don't ever remember a week being this long...even the week before Christmas vacation. I mean I thought it was Friday when I woke up this morning and it wasn't until I read the newspaper that I realized it wasn't...and I had thought it was a long week when I thought it was Friday.
The kids at work have all been antsy...I'm sure it's holiday anxiety for them, as well. One poor little guy in our class had to go home today with "Pink Eye". He was rubbing it and rubbing it..it looked awful.
I've managed to avoid most of the "bad" food that people are bringing to work. I bring my own coffee, to avoid the coffee room, where all the holiday treats are kept. I know I'll get a wonderful coffee cake from a co-worker...she makes it every year and gives it to me. I'll just take it to my parents' Christmas brunch. That way, I only have to avoid it for a little while and it will be eaten up.
YUM!!! Darryl made a dish for dinner...swiss chard, onions, great northern beans, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and a bit of soy sauce. It's so good! It smells good, looks good and tastes delicious!
I think Darryl and I are going to join the YMCA again in January...perhaps the monthly plan. It's more per month than we would pay each month if we sign up for a year, but we don't really use it during warm weather. And if we're only paying 4-6 months a year, even the increased monthly payments would be less than paying for the Y all year long and not using it all year.
Devon's home and I've got some of his presents out...have to go put them away...

Will I ever NOT be running late?!
Anyway, last night was the on track class for the RNY surgery...it's really turning more into a support group than an educational class...not sure how to change that or if anyone else would want that. I enjoy it, but I'm always looking for new information and I'm not always finding it there anymore.
We gave donations in our friends' names this year for Christmas gifts...we did it several days ago. We've only heard from one person so far...that was positive. I'm wondering if the ones we haven't hear from were less than thrilled with it...oh well. I feel very good about what I sent!
Completely out of time...more tomorrow.

Well, we didn't get quite as much snow as they thought...but we've got about 8-10 inches out there. And the wind is blowing it all over the place. Darryl's used the snow blower three times and most recently at about 5 this morning...I just looked out and the wind has blown a lot of his work away.
We have an hour delay this morning...I'm guessing because of the blowing snow. We're supposed to get a little bit more today. But not more than an inch or two.
I have a bad headache this morning...not a migraine, but not a pleasant way to start the day. I took some Tylenol and am waiting for it to kick in. I think it's sinus-related. At least, that's what it feels like.
We went to Ithaca on Saturday and I did a lot of bulk shopping. The co-op there carries a lot of stuff that we can't get locally. Tofurkey beer bratwurst and kielbasa and Italian sausage...we can't get those locally. I also tried a rice-based cheddar "cheese". It's really not bad! The package says it melts great, although I haven't tried that yet. I only tried it on a cracker. And was pleasantly surprised.
I also recently tried Tofutti "cream cheese"...I was, again, very pleasantly surprised. It's not 100% like cream cheese, but it's a lot better than the light real cream cheese.
As my blog suggests, I'm moving away from dairy. Cheese was the biggie I was afraid to give up. Milk not so much. I've been using soymilk for quite some time. I'm not sure I'll completely give up cheese. But I'm certainly cutting way back.
We're having Christmas breakfast at my parents' place on the 24th. (My sister and niece are working on the eve and Christmas Day.) Of course that means we'll have to bring our own foods...we only do free range eggs (specifically, eggs from our friend's chickens), we don't do meat, and Kate and I are moving away from milk. I think Darryl's going to make a fritatta or a quiche. We bring some faux bacon or sausage and I'm making wasail. I left some decaf tea there the last time I was there, so they'd have some whenever I visited.
And we're hosting desserts this Sunday evening, for Darryl's side of the family. Darryl's making pecan pie and I have a walnut cranberry dip mix to serve with crackers. They'll also bring some desserts. (Doesn't sound very healthy, huh? I'm also having a large bowl of fresh fruit, for those who are health-conscious...that means just me!)
Well, I need to get some breakfast and get the newspaper...

Well...Devon took his computer to college with him a few days ago and ended up staying on campus for like three nights...and our computer is still broken. But having his gone for so long did make us finally take ours in to be fixed. I'm hoping to have it back by the end of next week. It will be nice to have ours working again.
So, let's see...what to catch up on...I started the prometrium yesterday...I became quite dizzy at work, followed by a migraine. The Imitrex worked, though and I was able to finish out the day (half day because of a heavy snow storm) at work. I became incredibly tired...possibly from the Imitrex (one of the side effects) or from the prometrium (also a side effect)...so I came home and took a nap. I felt better in the evening.
This morning, I took the next prometrium and about an hour later, I became so very dizzy that I was even struggling to walk. I was home alone, which scared me. I called work, about 10 minutes before I was supposed to be there...not cool...but it couldn't be helped...then my vision got very blurry. I put a call in to the doctor and lay down for a bit. I fell asleep and when I woke up, I was much less dizzy and my vision was fine.
The doctor called back and said to stop taking the prometrium. I'm going to see another doctor in January. Of course after I've spent $40 on the prometrium and imitrex. Oh well...
We got about 6-8 inches of snow yesterday. Darryl had to use the snow blower twice. Once around 3 PM and then again around 7:30 PM. And a Nor'Easter coming through tomorrow night/Sunday morning. We've already had a couple snow days...I'm hoping we don't use them all up, because then they cut into other vacations to get them back. Ugh.
I'm going to Ithaca tomorrow...finally. We've been putting it off for weeks. We really need to get to the Green Star (natural food star). With three small natural food stores here, you'd think we could get everything we need...but we can't. So we joined Green Star and try to get there monthly.
The series finale for The Extras is Sunday...anytime we find a show we really like, they end it! What's up with that?! We should just stop watching TV altogether!
Actually, when the kids move on campus, we've decided to cut the cable way back...give up HBO, SHOWTIME...just keep the basic cable. And get rid of the extra box we have in Kate's room.
Many emails to catch up on...more next time.

Okay, okay...I'm as bad as my students! I LOVE snow days! Especially on Mondays! And this is supposed to clear up by like 8-9 AM, which means I'll be able to go out and walk around without risking falling and breaking an ankle! (Freezing rain = icy roads/sidewalks!)
Yesterday Darryl and I made a wonderful meal...he made a new soup from a recipe I found in the 1,001 low fat vegetarian recipes book (main ingredient is pureed great northern beans to be used as the "cream" in this soup, instead of fat/calorie-laden heavy creams) and I made "Kale Crisps" by baking kale with a tiny spritz of olive oil and some Bragg's Liquid Aminos (350 degrees for 10-15 min)...a handful on top of his soup and you have an insanely low fat, nutrition-packed delicious meal!!! Both recipes were very quick and easy and oh so tasty! The kale crisps are good on salads, too, or just as a healthy snack.
When the roads clear up, I think I'll take Daisy to the dog park...she's been really hyper lately and I don't think her walks and back yard romps have been quite enough for her. Maybe throwing a ball in the dog park will be more to her liking. I'm sure she'd love it. Maybe Darryl will go with me and we can take all three dogs.
Much to do with my new day off...
