Another busy weekend...

Sunday, December 19, 2010

Saturday, DH & I left the house early to go grab some breakfast & then to face the crowds at the mall. Let me tell you it was sooooo crowded. It was worse than I expected. emoticon But I can say we are now done with our Christmas shopping. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon All the gifts are now wrapped & placed under the tree. I've even already put together the stockings for the kids so I can have a relaxing day on Christmas Eve.

Of course last night, DH had a tough night, had one of his bouts of acid reflux followed by severe chills & running a fever. It left him feeling drained & achy. So he did manage to preach the morning service this morning & then we had lunch with his mom. Of course not exactly the menu of choice since I'm a diabetic --but it was good. She had made spaghetti & crescent rolls. Also, she made veggie pizza bites --these were great, she had spread cream cheese on italian bread & topped with carrots, broccoli, peppers & cauliflower chopped in small bite sizes, then sprinkled with shredded cheese. Oh these were so delish!! emoticon
Later we can home & while I was tidying the house, he took a much needed nap. Then I baked some fish with onions & paired with some collards for supper. Hope these will help bring my sugar #s down by in the morning.
Hoping for a much better night, we both got almost no sleep last night.

Have a great week as you make final preparations for Christmas, it's just around the corner. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Wow! Presents wrapped and under the tree! You really have it together. You should have a great week ahead with all of that done.
Hope the reflux is better. My husband has had an awful time with that in the past.

Just a blah day....

Thursday, December 16, 2010

I awoke expecting to see some of the fluffy white stuff, but actually all we had is just some icy roads in certain areas. I'm sort of glad the wintery mix was to a mininimum. So on the way in to the office I could feel my migraine coming back, I thought I had gotten rid of it last night, but by 10 am I was feeling horrible. DH had to come get me to take me home as this migraine was so intense I was having vision problems & was afraid to drive. DH & SD went back to town later to get my truck.
This migraine was probably the worst I've had, even brought me to tears, but not sure what brought it on, I wouldn't think stress from the office could produce such an intense headache. Unfortunately I can't take Imitrex which is the RX for migraines. Other than rest, does anyone have suggestions to stamp out the pain???

I've read that they use Botox for migraines, so you should check with a doctor who treats Pain. Apparently it relaxes tiny muscles that contribute to it.

One thing that may help is a heat pad on the back of the neck and an ice pack on the forehead. Lie down in a darkened room after you have made sure you are hydrated (have a glass of weak tea if water is off putting). Place heat pad on the back of your neck and ice pack on forehead (or on your hair if you cannot tolerate the cold on your skin), I was told this several years ago and found it worked on headaches but I don't know why.
If you can find someone who can give good head massages this can also be beneficial in helping de-stress the brain.
I do hope you are feeling better, nothing worse than migraine when there is a lot to be done.

Have you tried acupuncture? After the first few sessions I was able to drop the heavy meds and go for Aspirin migraine, so that really helped me, and stretching exercises for my neck and shoulders that the chiropractor showed me. What did you eat? There are certain foods/ combinations that bring on attacks.

I just hope that you may find something that works for you. emoticon

I am very sorry. I have had some migraines and they are no fun!! The thing that has helped me the most is going to the chiropractor. I also put an ice pack on my head where it hurts the most, but it is best to do that when it first starts, otherwise it does not help a whole lot. Feel better soon!

Busy weekend...

Saturday, December 11, 2010

I feel like I've missed alot from you ---my sparkfriends this weekend. It' been such a busy weekend so far, haven't really had time to check in with you all --but I'm here hit or miss for the rest to the weekend, hope to have some slower paced days ahead.

Last night, my office had it's Christmas party at a local fine dining Restaurant on the riverfront in downtown Wilmington. The food was ok, but not what I would have expected from a place as expensive as this one was. The boss had prearranged a variety of breads, dips, & bbq chicken & pork bits for appetizers. I ordered the ribeye steak with 3 grilled shrimp that were spiced up with a very spicy bbq sauce, with mashed potatoes, steamed vegggies. It also came with a house salad that had lettuce, tomatoes, dried cranberries, walnuts & mandarin oranges & fresh bread. Then for dessert, I chose the hot berry cobbler with a small dollop of vanilla ice cream. The best part was the salad & dessert, I ate very little of the veggies & steak as I didn't like the way they were seasoned --the steak was overcooked (for me) & the veggies not steamed enough. Of course I had several glasses of lemon water --so proud of myself for not giving in to a diet soda. Then afterwards we all walked down to Riverfront park to view the Christmas tree --it was beautiful to see the lights reflecting on the water.

Then today, my youngest grandson's 1st birthday party was celebrated with lots of laughter from family & friends. I guess now that he's 1, it's time for him to start walking --he seems to enjoy getting around on all fours --just not intrested in walking.

Then later I went shopping with my youngest daughter, it was nice to see her again & spend some quality time together. So all these events with family & friends has got me doing some "soul searching" realizing that my family is why I am continuing this journey. I don't want to miss out on any fun times because I've not taken care of my health. So on this journey I will continue, each day can be a new challenge but the results are so worth it in the end. emoticon

Donna, I wouldn't worry to much about the grandbaby not walking yet. He probably can crawl faster right now. He will get up and walk when he is ready to.

Your grandson is gorgeous, don't worry about him crawling, it is seemingly good for his development to have that stage and especially for his literacy skills. Must be something to do with coordination. I loved your blog, it talks of all the things that are important in life and why it is important to look after ourselves, so that we can enjoy everyone else for as long as possible.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with family and friends. It's too bad your wonderful steak was lacking, it's just not right to do such an injustice to a steak emoticonand give that little boy a great big birthday hug from Minnesota. One year old, it seems like yesterday you were gushing about how excited you were that you were going to have a grandson. Enjoy all the special days like this that you can. Love you, Lynn

It's the weekend already???

Friday, December 03, 2010

Seems like it was just last weekend, boy this week has really flown by! emoticon But at any rate I am so glad to have the weekend here, look forward to some down time without all the hectic schedules and deadlines that week usually has.
Woke up to a chilly morning, 28 degrees ---what happenend to our 40 degree mornings of last week. And even the weather guy is forecasting some emoticon flurries by Sunday. Of course as warm as it was last week with highs near 70, it's not expected to stick & accumulate, but it will be pretty to watch it fall --just as long as it doesn't linger. emoticon
DH had delish supper of pot roast & potatoes & garden peas prepared and a fire in the fireplace, what a warm welcome! A nice relaxing meal after a long day at work it a great way to start my weekend.

Tomorrow, heading out to do some Christmas shopping & also birthday shopping as my youngest grandson turns 1 on the 7th. Now he just needs to start walking, hopefully not much longer, longing to see him walk to his Nanna.

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend! emoticon

I don't even know what to do for Christmas.

What a joy it is when those little arms go out and a grandchild toddles over to you, and how lovely to reward them with a huge hug as only can be given by a grandma. Hope you find all the gifts you want quickly and without any stress. Already the shops here are getting so crowded. Have a lovely weekend.

Out with November, in with December goals....

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

It's hard to believe we are down to the final month of 2010. I haven't lost as much as I would have liked in 2010 - but it ain't over yet! November was a flat month with no loss & no gain ending @ 170. So I'll take that, anytime there's no gain with a holiday in the month, I figure I've done ok.

December is going to be a month to really stick closely to my goals with all the various Christmas parties & events to attend, Planning & moderation will be the key to survival on a positive note.

So forDecember, my goals are:

*Continue my water intake of 9 cups daily
*Strive for a minimum of 4 servings of fruits/veggies daily
*Get back to consistent exercise routines, no more sporadic workouts
*2 days per week of strength exercise
*Limit sodium
*Getting at least 7 hours of sleep each nite
*Stick to low carb options
*Keep focused by logging into the SP site daily & keeping in contact with my SP buddies who keep my motivated

Let's all have a healthy & joyous December as we celebrate this beautiful time of year --Christmas! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
