Walk It Out for Wii Review

The idea behind this game is that you walk in place, burn calories and have fun doing it. It's supposed to be a way to get the entire family off the couch and more active.

You can use either the controller/nunchuk combination, dance revolution pad or balance board. I've used all three.

Controller: this burns the most calories and gives you the option of walking around the room instead of just walking in one spot. Walking in one spot can start to wear on you after a while.

dance pad: easy to use but it tends to move a little and you have to walk in one place

Balance board: you can only lift your heels while using this. I burned hardly any calories even when doing this for an hour according to my Bodybugg. Also, your hip joints start hurting after a while. Not the best option

In the game, you have to walk around an island in beat with the songs being played. You gather "chips" for each correct step. Those chips are then used to buy items for the island (benches, street lights, etc) or new paths. The goal is to add new routes and completely furnish the island.

It is pretty fun but not a great workout. My calorie burn was much greater with Just Dance. If you want to use this to burn calories I would suggest using the controller option instead of the balance board.

    Interesting game, I haven't seen this one at the store, but I will look for it - for the kids :) Would you believe that their favorite game on the Wii Fit is JOGGING ? Where did these kids come from again... oh, yeah, me, the sedentary mom, lol. So they would probably like a walking game where they get points and can buy stuff :)

    I love my Wii, but I agree it can lack when you're really looking for a high-energy workout. That's when I go to kick boxing... But great, and honest, review.

    This was very interesting. My kids are continually trying to talk me into the Wii, as I am an avid gamer, but I hesitate cause there are just so many systems out there. Have been wondering if these programs would really help with weight loss so am glad to read a well written review..............

Bootcamp Reflections and Results

Bootcamp is officially over today. I kept up with every single exercise and challenge. I even did my cardio on all of the scheduled days. I am pretty proud of myself. :)

I did not measure myself before I started because I was just too ashamed. I wish I had now because all of my clothes are fitting so much better. I can feel that I've lost inches.

I've lost 8.2 pounds during the 28 day camp. Not bad!

I'm also much happier. I think it's the combination of exercise and actually meeting my goals.

SparkPeople has been a wonderful fit for me. I wish I had joined sooner! Now I'm looking forward to February. And I actually look forward to weigh in days now! That's a first. :)

    Great job!! I love the way Spark people focuses on small attainable goals, building on those allows us to feel the joy of success and see progress! Much better than the depression that follows failure :(

Breakfast: reduced sugar brown sugar & cinnamon oatmeal, weight watcher vanilla yogurt and some blueberries. Tastes more like dessert than breakfast!


I had to go to the grocery store at lunch time. They had some samples out and I was hungry so there was a little nibbling going on. I just counted it as 100 calories.

Lunch: low carb 80-calorie tortilla, turkey deli meat, mustard and cheese; apple slices; boiled egg stuffed with roasted garlic hummus. I think I prefer it with the regular hummus.


Found some all natural cookie dough at HEB (our local grocery store).


And each cookie is only 80 calories!!!!


They're so good!


Dinner: burgers made with 98% fat free ground beef, mustard, pickles, and cheese; baked Ore Ida steak fries (3 oz is 120 calories!) Burger is served on sugar free whole wheat bun.


for dessert I had an Attune bar. They're found in the yogurt aisle of the grocery store in a small box. Just do a search for Attune bars and you can find where to buy them near you!
Only 80 calories, 5x the live cultures in yogurt, and they taste decadent. VERY good.


Later on I snakced on 1 oz of "Just Fruit Munchies" dried fruit. Only 100 calories for a big serving.



Exercise: 30 minute brisk walk on treadmill; 45 minutes of Just Dance; Bootcamp video

Calories Burned: 2705

Calorie Intake: 1328

Deficit: -1377

Lost 2 pounds this week for a total of 8.2 pounds in January. :)

C25K Progress

Wednesday I did W2D3 of C25K. It was actually a little easier this time! I'm so surprised! emoticon emoticon

I'm a little afraid of week 3 where I have to run 3 minutes. But I know I can do it!

Not quite as sore from Zumba. Yeah! But I am battling my monthly foe which is causing some pretty severe hormonal headaches.

Neither Chuck nor I wanted to cook last night so he took us out to Red Robin. Red Robin is not a friend to a those trying to lose weight. LOL But their menu and nutritional info is available online and you can customize your foods to see how it changes the calorie count. I do best when I look at a menu before going out. That way I decide what to order before I even get to the restaurant and am not tempted to get a less healthy option.

I got the fish sandwich (tartar sauce on side, no tomatoes), side salad (no tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette on side) and some apple slices. No fries!!! 784 calories

Then we walked to Swirll for fat free frozen yogurt. I got the mango and added chopped mango, blueberries and a couple of palm seeds. I'd never tried a palm seed before! They're clear, kidney shaped and sweet and chewy. Kind of like a gummy candy. Very unusual.


And only 25 calories per ounce!!


Besides the C25K, I did my Bootcamp video for abs. It was actually easy this time!! Woohoo! Progress! Also did the bonus back extension video.

Today my Bodybugg strap broke. :( It was time to get a new one anyway. This strap is toobig now that I've lost so many inches in my arm. That's a good thing! :)

    I absolutely love swirl! Ice cream is one of my weaknesses and I was so excited about the frozen yogurt when this place opened. But, I am nowhere near as good as you because when I go there the chocolate toppings - m&m, chocolate chips, twix - call my name and they go right on top of my yogurt! Good job on eating out healthy emoticon

I can't believe how sore my entire core is from that Zumba workout! Honestly, if I weren't so sore I'd want to go again right now. It's such a fun way to get my cardio. I don't think I could do it just yet though. Guess it means that it's working!

I checked the scale this morning. Showed a gain. I'm not stressed in the least because I know the sore muscles retain fluid and I also have some hormonal reasons for retaining fluid. Yep. So a gain is expected.

But my hubby kept telling me over and over again that it really looks like I'm losing weight. That made me feel good. :)

Don't shoot me but I had a tough time getting all of my calories in yesterday. I know. That's not usually a problem for us ladies watching our girlish figures but for some reason my calories were low.

I think I was just making better decisions throughout the day. For breakfast I had a SF Rock Star and a CarbCheck bagel and some FF strawberry cream cheese. It came out to exactly 200 calories for all of that.

Then for lunch I had some Amy's FF Alphabet Vegetable soup and 5 crackers. It was filling but very low in calories.

Took the kids to see the Chronicles of Narnia exhibit at the museum. It was so neat!!!! Loved it. Also got to see a movie at the planetarium.

Then got home and had a pear. Another low cal option.

Did my Bootcamp workouts and then 30 minutes of Just Dance which was a struggle since I was so sore. :)

For dinner we had some 98% FF hot dogs on sugar free wheat buns with turkey chili and some baked fries. By the end of dinner I still had 300 calories left!! So I had a dessert of sugar free angel food cake (60 calories) and an ice cream sandwich. Still had calories left so I had a small Greek yogurt with honey and stirred in some fresh blueberries. Done!

Watched Biggest Loser while folding clothes. Wow. Between the red team drama and the moody/angry green team it was a drama packed episode. I can't help but get excited when they lose big numbers on that scale each week. Every time I do calculations in my head and think, "OK, if I lost 10 pounds like he did I would be ....." Wouldn't you love a weigh in week like that?!!!! I think my favorite is makeover week. The transformations always bring a tear to my eye.

Overall a very nice day. Hoping I'm not still sore Thursday so I can go back to Zumba!

    You should be okay for Zumba, fortunately the pains only last a day or so! When you are eating healthy, you're just not as hungry as when you eat junk food. Somedays it is hard to get in all the calories. Hard to believe, isn't it? You're doing great! Keep it up!

    Start adding protein drinks to your day. If you don't eat enough your body will think its in starvation and you won't lose weight. Stay off the scale. It can be discouraging. Use your clothes to determine your successes. Your husband is right you are losing inches and you are healthier for it and that is what matters. congratulations on your efforts.
