Husband health issues

Thursday, September 08, 2011

For those of you who know/or don't, David has been having issues for about 3 weeks
with his blood pressure running too high. Optimum is 120/80, which would be wonderful,
but at the drs. office he was 177/104, so his cardiologist ordered him to take 2 of one
of his morning pills, after a week, it still was in the 157/95 or 92 etc...pulse running
in the mid to upper 70's...so his cardiologist ordered another pill added to his repertoire
to take pm. Yesterday I took the copy of his 10 day record of BP and pulse readings in,
this morning they called and added a new morning pill in addition to the other pills.

It goes without saying that he does not like this. So he had the copy of his sonogram
from last week faxed up to his surgeon, and we see her on Monday about his GallBladder.
It is a laproscopic procedure, but since he would have to be under anesthesia, I am so
uncomfortable with this ........... he has had his heart stress test last week also, but it just
is scary with all his other issues.

The surgeon seems to think if he gets the gallbladder out, his bp will go back to its
regular reading..........we shall find out more about this on Monday.

Keep him in your prayers....
Blessings ya'll,
Darlene

I hope it will come down soon b/c I know how it feels. I put a
prayer request in the Prayer Room for you. Hopefully it will not take too long to get it down where the doctor wants it. I know that it's hard to take medications like 3 of this kind and so forth. I will keep you and David in my thoughts and prayers here at home. YOu know that I'm here for you and David too. Take care and keep me posted how everything goes. (((( ))))

Sorry about your hubby's BP issues. Hope the surgery does make it better. If not it would be better for his health to take diet and life-style measures as much as possible to deal with the BP than to live on ever-increasing medications.

I lived on BP meds for probably 25 years and had serious consequences from them. About a year ago my doctor took me off them and I have had to do it with diet and life-style ever since, and most of the time I do very well at keeping it down - even as low as 108/68. Nice. It can be done, but it does require a virtually totally natural foods life-style.

Hoping your hubby is OK, and the surgery does him well.

Hope all is well with you & your husband. I was diagnosed with hbp but refused pills until I did some long haul travel & got some from my GP as I feared deep vein thrombosis. Needless to say after a blood test it was discovered my blood sugar was up so I went off the pills, had another blood test & wasn't called back for the results. On the other hand with your husband with his gall bladder playing up then pills would be the safest bet. However, blood pressure pills often have serious after affects which is why I have decided on leading a healthy life of good food and exercise. I wish you both well & look forward to hearing how your husband's health has improved emoticon

Hey girl! Big Hugs! I have some words of encouragement for you on the BP issue. As you may or may not know I have been going through issues with my high blood pressure for months and trying new meds out that didn't work to bring it down. In April I had my gallbladder removed laproscopically and of course my BP was through the roof in the pre-op room and the nurse called the doctor and ordered me a valium and my BP came down and I did great through the surgery. Go ahead and ask your doc for something for his nerves before surgery it sure did help me. Being in pain can send your blood pressure through the roof anyway.
Praying for David and for you to come through this surgery with flying colors and that his BP stays down after the surgery! Oh and if David has sleep apnea bring his machine with you in case they need it when he goes to sleep. They had to send my husband after mine so I could have it when I woke up from surgery. Sorry that he is going through all this! emoticon emoticon

    Darlene,

I am so scared for you. This reminds me of when my husband had 4 heart attacks in one week. Travis is only 25! My grandmother had her gallblatter removed, and she is doing fine now. Its a very scary thing, I know. I will be praying for you and your husband, and sending you positive thoughts. Please let us know if there is anything that you need during this time. I mean anything! We are all here with you, to help you and support you during this time. Please feel free to privately email me, anytime and I will be there for you. Even by phone if need be. God made us women strong so that we could be there when the men need us. So try to be strong during this time. I know its hard, but I know that you can do this.. Just pray and know that God has got you both in his hands.

"Sweet Father, Darlene and David are having a rough time right now. David is going to have to have surgery to get his blood pressure down. I ask that you bless them during this time of their lives. Father I ask that you hold them both close to you, and let them know that you have the situation under control. Father I ask that you give Darlene some extra strength during this time. I ask that you give her some rest and peace with this situation. Father, give her and David the wisdom that they need to go through this situation. Father guide them, and be there with them,. Father, thank You for the good times and the bad. Please let this fix the problem. Please bless David's health so that after the surgery his body will bounce back to normal, so that he can stop taking all of his meds. Father you are the great healer so we know that you can do this. Father, please bless them. In Jesus' sacred and awesome name Amen."

I hope that you don't mind the prayer, being typed here. However this is what I prayed for you. I want you to know that God is the greatest healer in the universe. He can heal anything and anybody. I do hope that David feels better, and is able to get healthy. You should ask him to join Sparkpeople as well, and do it as a family. I know that eating correctly and exercising could help with his blood pressure as well. My grandfather as well as husband both have heart issues. I am attempting to get Travis setup here on Sparkpeople as well. So he can learn to eat healthy and exercise to get his BP down to normal.

As I said earlier, we are here for you. In every way possible, we are here. Don't be afraid to reach out if it gets worse. Don't be afraid to ask people to email you or to chat with you, as we all understand that this is a trying time for you. We are here, I can't stress that enough. You are part of the Spark Family. So take care, and try to smile today. It'll help you feel better. :)

Hugs,

Hope

Did it through the navel and now I can't even find the other "scares." I had two GOLF BALL size stones, so I certainly needed it out.
Have him do Atkins diet and get down any excess weight if that is an issue for him.

I've been praying for you both. The gall bladder operation is quite simple now. I had mine removed earlier, maybe 1995, and was back to work really fast. For someone with other health problems it might be a different story but we have the "great physician" guiding the doctors and he never fails us. Not everyone is healed but He goes through it with us and we can lean on him and ask him to guide the proceedure and give the doctors wisdom in his treatment..God bless you both~

Thanks to ALL

Saturday, September 03, 2011

I was going to try to write everyone who posted on my page for me being MOD this
past week...however, when I got to counting I decided I would be better off blogging.
Thank you to each of you who posted and gave me thumbs up.....if ya'll had not posted
I might have missed my picture....LOL.....sometimes I am not too observant....

All of my friends live in my computer, under the Sparkpeople group....I just wanted
you all to know you inspire me to keep trying, keep pushing forward toward my goal
weight and a much healthier lifestyle.

If I can inspire anybody to follow Spark principles and get healthier, then I have
succeeded. If anything that I say can inspire someone to give it another day, not
to give up on themselves, then I can feel good about my day.

I wish I could write each of you individually, but there are hundreds of posts.
Thank you to each of you, I don't feel so alone ..........................

Blessings,
Darlene

You're awesome Darlene :) Not that I needed to read this to know that, but it just confirms it!
I didn't know you were a fellow Nascar fan....it's the only sport I enjoy...pretty out-of-place here in TX, but I'm ok w/that! Keep wearing that red on Fridays - God bless your son & all of our troops.

I enjoyed reading this. We have a lot of similarities in our life. I also wear red on Fri not that I have son in Afghanistan but to show support for those that are there.

I am sad

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Rather than trying to explain to everyone what has been going on: Here goes.

My daughter and I, some 25 years ago, bought a horse. He was an infant, an Arabian
with lineage back-back-back, but was the spitting image of one of his grand sires,
Bask....we raised this little scamp on a bottle. He was hers, but he knew I was good
for extra loving, treats and so forth. He did tricks, was too smart for his own good.

He unlocked stall doors, barn doors, many times my daughter left the kitchen door open
and he just walked in and waited on her to appear. His legal name was Desert Ablaze....
and Blaze had more personality than any horse I ever knew, and that is a pile of them.....
He did not know any bad habits, never once nipped, kicked, bucked. He was the most
gentle soul, and when she saddle broke him gently, he would go all day and at dark, be
dancing to go more....endless energy.

Fast forward to about 2 months ago. After being in perfect health for his whole life, except
for a little scratch he got playing with one of the other horses. Barbara & Paul(SIL) came
home from work and he was down. His pasture buddy was running the fence screaming
and rearing and caring on trying to get attention for his friend. She ran to Blaze, Paul ran
to get the horse trailer hooked up and she coaxed him to his feet, he loaded and was
rushed to the equine hospital, where he stayed for 2 weeks, during which time, his
compacted intestine was cleared but he began to founder. They put special boots on him
and brought him home, buying special bedding for cushion, two huge barn fans to keep him
comfy, special food, and a list of meds.

He gained some weight back, but the foundering turned into Laminitis in the front, and
as many of you may know, that is what killed the great racehorse, Secretariant. Still they
tried everything, and I asked many on here to pray for him.....

For a while, he did better. Then he hit a stumbling block.

Sunday, Barbara said she had to beg him to get up, he struggled for a good bit, but he did
manage to get to his feet, and they HURT, because he never showed pain or distress til
Sunday. He was in agony. She called me, and we discussed it, through all our tears and
sobs..............and we decided it was time......Blaze was 25, lived the life of Riley, and he
did not deserve to continue suffering as he was.....he quit eating....and for him to not eat,
was a major signal. I asked her to put the phone to his ear so I could tell him goodbye,
and I told him how good a boy he is, what a joy he has been in our lives, how much I loved
him and would miss him....she kissed him for me.....and I told Barbara to be brave and
know she did the best she could. They have spent thousands on the hospital, special care,
not to mention her getting up at 4AM and sometimes not getting to bed til midnight, trying
to help him. So I know they tried........and had I not been in Alabama I would have been
there helping with his care.

So, Sunday evening, Desert Ablaze crossed the Rainbow Bridge into Heaven.
I have cried until, truthfully, I made myself sick....so this is my eulogy for my gutsy
beautiful friend...

Barbara and I both had the same dream Sunday night, after I seriously cried myself to
sleep...as did she...........

Blaze crossed the Rainbow Bridge, met his buds who had gone before, R.C., Snake, Queen
and Buck, and several of our dogs, they all rubbed noses hello again, and took out across
the most perfect meadow .......... Blaze had his neck arched and his tail flagged high and
they all were together.........
See you later my much loved friend, you were the best, and there will never be any to
try to take your place...........

PS: I just had to add this little story about Blaze. Barbara said when they took him to
the hospital, there was a white mare in a paddock closeby, and as sick as Blaze was, he
raised his head and nickered and whinnied at her....she said it was like he was saying,
"even though I am feeling pretty bad right now, I want to tell you how fine you look today."
The neverending flirtation....he was a character....

I am so sorry that I didn't see this sooner! emoticon It is so heartbreaking to lose a family pet. We had to put our boykin spaniel, Brunswick to sleep last year and I still think I hear him walking around at night and miss him terribly. It was so brave of you and your daughter to let him go and not make him have to suffer. He will always have a special place in your hearts and minds and sounds like he was an extra gifted and talented horse.
I loved the story about him whinnying at the white mare, that male testostrone is the last to go.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve the loss of your sweet boy! emoticon emoticon

How wonderful that you had 25 years with Blaze --- great, quality years. And how wonderful that you and your daughter had the same dream. What a gift he has given you both. Call on him often; he'll be there for you --- in spirit, if not in physical body.

Blessings & a big hug,
Azurelite
