I have had to ask David to help me get back on the exercise wagon and also to stop
eating ice cream, cookies, ice cream, candy, ice cream, chips and dip(especially cheese)
and did I mention chips n dip????

I figure if I can get him to commit to not eating it, as well as not in front of me,
he will lose the pounds he wants to lose and I can get more motivated too....It is hard
watching him chow down on stuff, even stuff he knows he should NOT be eating, and
keeping out of it myself.

I will save the problems with my doctor for a later post...LOL

LOL All ya'll keep your fingers crossed, I am weighing tomorrow.........

How did the weigh in go Sis? Im stuck on the same plateau ive been on since I started on SP. It goes up and down by a pound or two but I always return to the same weight. I'm working on a new plan, and I hope you will help keep me on the straight and narrow. By for now I'll write soon Janey lol emoticon We've had rain, but dont tell anyone . They'll all want some.

Good luck and I hope you get the help you need to get back to the exercise and away from the chip and ice cream! I am so in the same boat right now..we can do this..we can get back in the mindset that we NEED this. Our health is too important and we CAN do this!!

Hopefully David will understand and cooperate. If not, try keeping something for you to munch that won't be as damaging--he goes for chips & dip--you go for popcorn, carrots, celery, something crunchy. He goes for ice cream, you go for low fat yogurt.

    Darlene,
Hope you get back on the exercise wagon without too much effort...... No pun intended.

I still like the odd "special treat" myself. One thing could be to buy the smallest package of ice cream you can, rather than have a large amount available in the house. Similar for the other items. Maybe you can just buy one at a time from the store. But not if it causes too much friction...... I have on many occasions had to ask my kids (20, 20& 13)to eat in another room. They do not like it but it is my ( & Sharons) house. In my case they were eating a Thai curry and it was killing me. I had eaten it the day before but had to get them to move into the other room and then open a window.... Difficult here.... It is the middle of winter. No 100 degree days for us at he moment more like 50-60 F.

Hang in there. If he wants to "chow down" Go for a ride!!!!!! When it warms up that is what I will do.

Kindest Regards

John emoticon

This is going to sound so trite, but if you stack the refrigerator and pantry with healthy choices up front and bury the "gooder" stuff way at the back it MAY make it easier on both of you to make the right choices.

At the same time I'm sure that now you've explained to David, that eating these foods in front of you is undermining your efforts to get healthier and fitter, assuming straight talk, no telepathy, no hints and no beating around the bush. DH will be more than happy to get with the program.

Hope everything else is going well and that both are getting some miles on those fabulous steel horses.

SPARK GUY comment

Monday, July 19, 2010

You know, I was thinking this morning...(yes I know-I should be careful with that),
but it occurred to me that I owe Spark Guy Chris Downie more than I could ever
cover with a simple THANK YOU.

I have lost weight, was gifted with his book and learned some more things I didn't
know, and have this lovely site, free of charge to peruse and learn all kinds of
health related things, I get to have Spark points and awards for showing up on a
consistent basis.............recipes from all you Sparkers out in the world to try...and
all of this........is a gift.

My personal observation here on this is this: The friendships I have made on here
have supported me and blessed me beyond what I think even Chris would have expected.
We trip through this life and have so many things to be thankful for, and I hope everyone
who reads this does a kindness for someone else today.....because the generosity and
kindness that SPARK GUY CHRIS DOWNIE gave to us, is immeasurable.

Thank you Chris, for making such a difference in this world, for so many people who
you will likely never meet in person.

I feel so very much gratitude and admiration for Chris Downie. Isn't it amazing that in this cinical world you find that not ALL of it is foul!

I so agree with you. This site is such a wonderful springboard for making so many positive changes. To have a place that is so positive to come to is very powerful, and to have so many great people here to lend support, encouragement and to see everyone just cheering for eachother and spreading happiness to people they will more than likely never even meet in person is truly humbling.
Darlene, you are most definitely one of the positive influences here and I am grateful. You are always there to cheer and encourage and I appreciate you. My prayers are with you and David and I hope he gets better very soon.

FRIDAY update

Friday, July 16, 2010

Thanks to everyone who has been praying and sending positive vibes, THATS FIRST....

Now, the dr. called and I am thankful to God it is not the tumor, the mri showed
no change in that, but what it and the xrays did show are new bone spurs and
acceleration of Arthritis in the herniated discs and around them.

This I also have so we know we can deal with this, and the dr. put him on a round of steroids to get the inflamation down and so we have to find a way to deal with it for
him because he does not like to take a lot of meds, but will do so just to get the
pain level down where he can deal with it.

Thanks are inadequate words for the immediate rush of support from you guys, which
has helped me stay calm and focused. You know I am here for you as well.....

Thank you so much from our hearts,
Darlene and David

Thursday update

Thursday, July 15, 2010

I have to laugh here, because I am, as promised writing an update, but he got
his x-rays and MRI's this morning, and so far that is all we know. David feels
like we may not hear anything from the dr. until tomorrow.

Thanks to each of you for posting and praying. As soon as I get a report and
we determine what needs done, I will be emailing each of you, as well as
posting a blog....

And, last but not least, this would be the week when we have yahoo problems
and I have gotten no Sparkmail in two days.

Blessings on each of you,
Darlene

REQUESTING PRAYER FOR DAVID

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

As some of you know, David has had some health issues, the majority of which are
connected to his service in Vietnam.
He mentioned to me Monday night the base of his neck was causing him discomfort,
which is a huge admission for him, because he never mentioned pain even when he
had his open heart surgery. He wanted to wait til August when he is due to see his
primary care, I called his neurosurgeon in Birmingham and also the primary, and we
saw the primary this morning. He sent him for an MRI tomorrow morning. When it
comes to his health I don't mess around.

The dr. does not think his brain tumor is causing this problem, rather the two herniated
discs in his neck, hence the MRI so we will know which specialist he will need to see.

We have also consulted with a neck and spine specialist who sent him for pain blocks
previously, not much help, and who said it was up to him when or if he chose to have
surgery on his neck. The worst would be a possible paraplegic state, which for him
would be terrible since he can't sit still, and/or not being able to speak. The titanium
in his neck would probably keep him from turning his head, so he would be limited in
his activities, like driving a vehicle or riding his bike.

I am asking for prayer for him because any time he has to undergo a procedure, with his
health issues, anethesia is dangerous.

I will keep you posted as to what is going on. It may very well turn out to be something
we can find a simple solution to..................which is my prayer.

Thanks so much,
Darlene

Thanks everyone. My support here is priceless to me.....I'll post tomorrow after he has
his MRI. I don't know how long it will take the dr. to get the results but, I will post
regardless.
