What great friends I have here at Sparkpeople!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

So two days ago I was bummed, feeling low and unmotivated. A three minute blog about how I knew I wasnot going to the gym as planned and a flood of responses back... Thanks to all those who send messages, responses and mail about my blog. You all are the best ever. I got so much good advice and positive energy. How could I do anything but go to the gym so I didn't let you all (and myself) down. Two days of eating good, getting my fruits and veggies and exercise. Thanks to everyone at Sparkpeople. What a wonderful safety net for those bad days (or bad weeks)

{{hugs}} to all of you!

Got a baby bump

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

LOL, no- Not a real baby-bump. I have been so good for so long and I had a really bad week. Hormones plus stress plus crazy work and I get the munchies. I blew everything out of the water. I have continued to test glucose but otherwise I have been a huge slug. I need to go to the gym but I find myself already dreading it. Maybe working out with bands tonight would be a good slow start back in. Life sometimes throws you a curve ball and this one hit me between the eyes.

At least you caught yourself before it got way out of hand - you should be proud of yourself for that. We all go through slumps and I am so proud of you for recognizing yours so quickly and jumping on it and seeking out help to snap out of it - you go I am so impressed with you.

everybody has those days and the only way to get over it.... really is to go ahead and do some kind of exercise. the bands are good, there are sp exercise videos you can do them with. they are great to do to get you back into exercising..... 10 minutes and under. i love the stability ball videos, everytime i do them i get sweet westie kisses... they think i'm playing with them.

If it is nice go take a walk and work with the bands. I find cardio helps my stress and blood sugars the best. Remember baby steps one step at a time.

Everyone goes through this time to time. Starting with the bands is a good idea. emoticonHowever maybe you have a friend or neighbor that would like to go for emoticon a walk as well or just go yourself for some time alone. This way you get both cardio and strengthen in tonight. And just getting your sneakers emoticonand getting out of the house is a better start to getting back to the gym.

Blood Test Results In....

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

I saw the doctor on the 12th (I think) but I have been so busy with work I have not been on Sparkpeople much.

So the news was good. My A1c went from 8.0 in May to 6.2 and my FBS was 90. Woohoo! I was hoping the A1c woul drop further but my doctor was very happy with my progress. SInce May I have lost 50 lbs but I have only lost half of that since I have been on SparkPeople. I continue the fight with no drugs (yay!) and I am to stay the course.

I have slacked off in the exercise dept and need to get back in gear. So- tomorrow is a new day and by gosh I shall be an exercise warrior!

Thanks to all who have been rooting for me! You all are the best!

Congratulations on your awesome weightloss and I am assuming that the FBC and A1C are Fasting Blood Sugar and A1C is levels for diabetes (but I am probably wrong) if I am right then a drop in both is good as long as the drop is not too low right??

Congratulations on your great progress.

Yardwork Day 2 + Chloe Westie got a squirrel.

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Squirrel news first as I know you Westie owners are just dying to hear. Chloe Westie was out surveying her backyard as I worked pulling out shrubs and trimming trees. When Chloe took off after a small squirrel I was not worried because she may get close but she never catches them. How wrong I was. I watched as she chased that squirrel who kept changing direction and Chloe deftly kept up with the terrified critter. After the fourth course correction in a chase that spanned the very large back yard I started to get nervous. I did not want Chloe to actually catch the squirrel. This was not a bright squirrel. So I started to yell at Chloe to stop but she was not listening. I saw her pin the squirrel to the chain link fence and I heard that awful Squirrel noise. I screamed for Chloe to leave it and thankfully she looked back at me long enough for the squirrel to jump out of Chloe's paws and fly though a hole in the fence. That squirrel shot of the neighbor's wood fence and was over in a flash. Chloe looked at me like I stole her toy and I am sure in her mind she was only "going for the squeaker." Living with a Westie is never boring...

So yard work day two and there is another pile of trimmings and dead shrubs on my drive way. Today was only a 35 minute work out. Yesterday knocked me out. I have to admit yard work does not get old, it works up a big sweat and it does not feel like exercise. Besides, it is exercise that my Westie can be involved in. She loves it when we uncover a grass snake or even a stick that looks like a grass snake. In the Texas heat it can be dangerous so I take breaks at 30 minute intervals; we get water and cool off before starting again. It is nice to see what you can do with your own two hands. I recommend it highly.

Ailie is jealous (and impressed), as well! There are just too many trees here for the squirrels to hide in. She caught a mouse once, though, and was proud of herself for months.

Good job, Chloe!

Bella is so jealous that Chloe was allowed to get one in her clutches. I bet Chloe can't wait to get back out there again, but you are right that heat is a major problem I lived in Texas for many years and we are not far from there (in Arkansas now so we still have the same heat factor). Stay cool and have fun with your great form of exercise for both you and Chloe.

Duffy wants to get Chloe's technique. She has never even come close, thank heaven! Love, the squeaker reason!
Great work with the yard clean up! emoticon

I can barely move

Saturday, August 07, 2010

Well, it's me 1, shrubs 0. I went out for yard work today. It was crazy hot (as Texas usually is in the summer) but I was committed. I took out three full shrubs and reduced another 3 to teeny tiny stumps. I have two huge piles of brush to move but that will have to be tomorrow. Due to my backyard demo I had no trouble with my water today... 8 glasses by 4 pm and the night is still young. There is something about yard work- you get to see the fruit of your labor right away. I feel accomplished and pretty darn excited because I knocked out a full workout withoutleaving the backyard... now if I can only get out of bed tomorrow morning.

Good for you! I feel the same way - I like the immediate gratification of yardwork. Good thing, since I'm the only one in our family of 5 who enjoys it. I'm impressed that you can get out in the heat and work. I can barely tolerate it if the temps are over 70. Ha ha. Hope you're not too sore this morning!

Sometimes I get so busy doing things that I don't do everyday and the time just disappears. BUT I feel it when I get up the next day. There have been many of times I did not want to get up but I just pray "Lord get me up! Push me if you have too" and it works! Diane
