Change (even negative change) can be Good!

I am still sick but I am not down. I am congested, coughing and tired. I have a huge cold sore (yuck!) but I am not down. I can't go out because the cold air triggers my asthma, but I am not down. I haven't been getting in my 10,000 steps a day, but I AM NOT DOWN!

I have reduced my calories from the high part of my calorie range to the low end. I am doing light exercise for 30 minutes a day and light strength training with the 28 day challenge instead of 60 minutes a day of high energy aerobics and ST with machines at the gym. I am sitting indoors most of the day (making myself walk around the house for steps at least once an hour). And I AM NOT DOWN.

I am not hungry eating fewer calories and I have eliminated a few extras like nuts in my cereal and a 100% whole wheat roll with dinner. I have realized how important exercise is to me now that I can't do much. I have lost 2 pounds this last week and broken the 185 barrier that has been there for the last few months SO I AM NOT DOWN.

New Year Goals

Being sick the first week of the New Year has allowed me a little time to contemplate where I am with my new lifestyle and the results are pleasing.

I eat emotionally much less frequently now. I want to increase my awareness of when I am thinking about eating emotionally and develop at least 3 tactics to catch this feeling in the bud and turn it around.

I am much more active. Not just in the amount of exercise I do, but in how often I move my body and how much less frequently I just sit. I want to find 3 more ways to move more frequently on a daily basis.

I have decreased the amount I eat at a sitting. I want to be aware of the extras I eat and stop eating them.

I am not bored any more. I want to find 3 new activities this year.

I am happier. I want to evaluate my blessings at least once a week.

I think that is enough for one year! emoticon

    I was going to suggest snowshoeing too! My hubby and I bought some at X-mas and we love them.

We got Yukon's, they have a lightweight aluminum frame and are easy to get on/off. We bought them at Walmart, they ran $79.00

Did you know that snowshoeing burns an amazing 515 calories an hr?! Just think even if you went out for 1/2 an hr you would burn over 250 calories! How sweet!

    Do you have snow shoes? Maybe some trekking around your cabin is called for, once your cold is history. Great goals - print them out and keep them in front of you so you can fall back on them throughout the year.

Slow but Moving

Felt a lot better today. Only up to take my asthma meds a couple of times last nite. Had a little more energy and a little less coughing. I did the first 2 Videos for the 28 day challenge. I also got out of the house today. The cold air triggered some coughing but it was nice to get out.

Tonight I marched in front of the TV for 30 min to get my first cardio in 5 days. Woo Hoo! It felt great. The funny thing is that it actually got my heart rate up. I felt like I'm starting from square one, but I know as my cold and asthma improve my fitness will improve.

I got on the scale for the first time in 5 days and while I've been sick, I went down from 186 to 183. Boy, I wish it were real, but I have a feeling its dehydration cause I haven't been eating or drinking well since being sick. I ate and drank well today. I'm not going to record the 183 or weigh again until Friday. This week I will try to eat 500 calories less than I burn each day and hope that this illness was my unexpected plateau buster.

    Well...a loss is a loss, so just keep moving a little bit at a time. You are doing better than me, I haven't done the first video yet, but first week back at the office and getting things back into some kind of order is taking its toll, but I will do the first one tonight.

    If you need a little 'push' to get you over that plateau, I'll give you a shove in the right direction. Except wait - you are pushing yourself! 500 less calories a day will get you one pound down. Glad you are feeling a bit better.

Best Laid Plans

I was ready to start the new year with a bang, but life got in the way, I've had a cold since Tuesday and instead of getting better it has gone in to my lungs and triggered my asthma,. I've been pretty sick the last few days and haven't been able to kee[ up with my plans. I haven't been eating much and its been mainly soup. I haven't exercised since Thursday.

We had to come down from the mountains early cause I just couldn't breath up there. All I've been doing is sitting in a recliner or lying in bed for 4 days. I sure hope I start feeling better soon.

I haven't been able to start my 28 day challenge, but have decided I'll just start it on the day I feel better anhd go on from there.

    Rest up and get better! I've had a cold that won't go away since Thanksgiving week and so I understand how discouraging that is. Give yourself time to mend before trying too much exercise. Hope you'll recover quickly!

I really do feel with you and that is literally. I have had the cold for almost 2 weeks now and am hacking so hard that I almost throw up. I thought surely it will be over so I can start this challenge, but no, I am still not sleeping at night because of the hacking cough. It is disappointing, but I am still optimistic that I will be able to start in a couple of days. I know I would not be up to the exercise at this point. Hope you can start within a couple days as well because it is over the end of January. Thankfully, I believe that everything happens for a reason. Wish you the best in your weight loss program.

My Most Important Lesson this Year

Is to keep on going. No matter what.

This past year's journey to health and fitness has been different from previous ones in this aspect. I have not given up! I keep on going. Spark and its users have taught me that. I have been on a plateau of about 3 pounds for several months now. Up and down. Down and up. It would be easy to get discouraged, but I am not. Each day is a new day. I just keep on going. I have had a few days of eating mindlessly, but I come right back and start eating healthfully. I refuse to get discouraged. Discouragement would lead to weight gain. Keeping on going has lead to weight maintenance at 185 to 188. That is sure a lot better than going back to the 270 where I started.

The new year is starting and I just joined the 28 day Challenge team to start the new year. I did this last January and lost 10 pounds in the month. I know I won't lose that much this year, but I thought it would be a good idea to jump start the new year.

I am fighting a bad cold. I have asthma and every cold I get goes to my chest so I am feeling kind of bad with lots of congestion and difficulty breathing. I am not exercising and am drinking lots of fluids but I feel rotten (physically not emotionally). I didn't gain any weight this week (I'm at 186) so that is good, but hate the state of not exercising. Next week hopefully I'll be able to get back into the swing of things. I walked my c25k week 9 day 2 on Wednesday but feel too bad to try it today. So my last day of c25k will have to wait til next week.

    Hey friend - I joined the team too and anticipate it helping me get a good start to the year. I love your perspective and plan to make my mantra -- just keep going. I found that this last year I made progress in coming back after little failures as well. I know that will pay off this year.
