Pedometer Thoughts

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I have lost my trusty pedometer. It is a great pedometer-an Omron. I looked all over to find a good pedometer for me. It is large, has a safety clip, and I can wear it at my waist or in my pocket. Since I got it I have worn it every day and faithfully tracked my steps. After wearing it about 6 months, I rarely go below 10,000 steps. It has really increased my awareness of how active I am and how I used to sit a lot.

When I realized I couldn't find it yesterday morning, I frantically looked everywhere for it. Under things, in things, etc. I even went thru every trash can in the house in case I threw it away with something else. I went thru the hamper and all my coats and clothes in the closet. I can't quite remember when I looked at it last, but think I brought it home from our weekend in the cabin. Anyway, I can't find it.

I have slowly over the course of the last 24 hours come to realize that although I love my pedometer, I don't NEED it. I don't HAVE to have a pedometer to stay active. I am active now. I have changed my lifestyle. I just get up and move now. I love it!

I will keep looking for it, at home and at the cabin, but if I don't find it...oh well, life goes on. I am an active person now, with or without a pedometer.

It is only a tool to use. But now you have the knowledge to get past the tool. You can and will get on without it but I am sure you will find it. emoticon

I agree with Linda Kay, you will find it when and if you buy an new one. I am not like you in that respect...I HAVE to have mine. I need numbers LOL...I even have a back up Omron (dh had one and didn't wear it so it is my backup) and I have to tell you, I wear my Omron 24x7...only time it is not on me is in the shower...LOL

Gaye

If you are like me, go buy a new one and you will locate the old one. lol You are right, once you get in the habit of moving a lot, it sure is easier to stay active. I do hope you fine your trusty pedometer soon. ((HUGS)) Linda Kay

The Day After

Sunday, April 25, 2010

The race was great. Weather was cold and windy -- especially since we walked all around the periphery of a lake. DH was supposed to walk with me, but he caught the competitive spirit and walked full out..I couldn't keep up with him. He said he thought I was right behind him. emoticon

Today I'm tired...More from the excitement than the exercise. I don't know if I'll do another 5k but I am glad I did complete one.

    Congratulations!!! That's awesome!

Keep on doing 5K walks -- that's only 3.14 miles, and your time was much better than mine ever has been! It generally takes me about 1-1/2 hours to walk 5K. I probably won't get much faster with this silly back, but I keep doing it anyway. I belong to the local Volks Walkers and they have 5K walks almost every weekend. I go whenever I can -- great exercise!

It is just nice to say you did it. I did a 10K last summer and don't know if I would do it again but love being able to say I did it. You deserve a day off.

I'm Excited!

Saturday, April 24, 2010

When I signed up for the mud hen 5k I didn't realize how nervous I would be on the day of. The race is in 3 hours and my tummy is churning. I don't know why...I'm not competing for any great times or anything. I just want to finish and not make a fool of myself.

The weather is ok. Light drizzle and wind. I'm going to walk.

Yesterday was a rest day, but I had a great time...Went shopping and had lunch with a friend. Got our guest room ready for DH's brother who is arriving Wed for a trip with DH in Canyonlands. He'll stay the night before the trip and the night after the trip. It's nice to have a guest room now for friends and relatives. The granddaughter's loved having their own room when they were here for Spring Break.

Well, I'll let you know how it went.....

Getting Ready!

Friday, April 23, 2010

Tomorrow is the Mud Hen 5K. I'm excited but worried too. It is pouring, and I mean pouring. My DH and his friend went out to walk at 10 like they do every day and he came back soaked. Really soaked. Shoes, socks, raincoat, hat, and even his shorts and T. I don't know if I want to walk 3 miles if it is raining that hard. I have asthma and really don't want to take a chill. I am just going to hope that if it is raining tomorrow, which is predicted, it will just be a light rain not a downpour. Wish me luck.

I wouldn't walk in the pouring rain either Nancy. I would be disappointed but just go to the mall and walk the 3.2 miles or something like that. If it's just a drizzle though I would go for it. I pray it holds off for the race.
