I'm Excited!

Saturday, April 24, 2010

When I signed up for the mud hen 5k I didn't realize how nervous I would be on the day of. The race is in 3 hours and my tummy is churning. I don't know why...I'm not competing for any great times or anything. I just want to finish and not make a fool of myself.

The weather is ok. Light drizzle and wind. I'm going to walk.

Yesterday was a rest day, but I had a great time...Went shopping and had lunch with a friend. Got our guest room ready for DH's brother who is arriving Wed for a trip with DH in Canyonlands. He'll stay the night before the trip and the night after the trip. It's nice to have a guest room now for friends and relatives. The granddaughter's loved having their own room when they were here for Spring Break.

Well, I'll let you know how it went.....

Getting Ready!

Friday, April 23, 2010

Tomorrow is the Mud Hen 5K. I'm excited but worried too. It is pouring, and I mean pouring. My DH and his friend went out to walk at 10 like they do every day and he came back soaked. Really soaked. Shoes, socks, raincoat, hat, and even his shorts and T. I don't know if I want to walk 3 miles if it is raining that hard. I have asthma and really don't want to take a chill. I am just going to hope that if it is raining tomorrow, which is predicted, it will just be a light rain not a downpour. Wish me luck.

I wouldn't walk in the pouring rain either Nancy. I would be disappointed but just go to the mall and walk the 3.2 miles or something like that. If it's just a drizzle though I would go for it. I pray it holds off for the race.

This is Starting to Feel Normal!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

After 9 months of increasing my physical activity and changing my eating habits, I have to say that this is beginning to feel like the norm. I don't have to think as much about my choices of food. My appetite is now directing me towards healthier non processed options. I crave good food. I am eating in restaurants without trepidation. I can choose the food I want to eat and make requests of the servers. I exercise every day without even thinking of it being exercise. Most days my step count is in the 1200 to 1400 step range. It just feels natural. My back doesn't hurt constantly. I am not tired. I am enthusiastic about going out and doing things. I am loving life. Even this small injury of the ITB Friction Syndrome in my knee is not setting me back. I am just swimming more. My attitude and outlook are good and it feels normal to feel good. I just can't say enough how grateful I am that I found this program and took its principles to heart. To be in a community of people who are trying to better their health and fitness one day at a time, slowly, and sanely. It is wonderful.

    Amen.

Isn't it amazing how the cleaner you eat, the cleaner you want to eat? You can taste the "sweet" or "peppery" in the natural taste of good food. Have you noticed too that processed food tastes chemically...or just a little funny?

Woo hoo for you to be finding this path is leading you to better health!

It is so good to know that it is possible for this to become a normal way of life. In the beginning, where I am, I really have to think about every single decision. Sometimes I have to force myself to get my exercise in. To hear you say that these feelings won't last forever is so encouraging.

Thank you for your post! emoticon emoticon

I'm so glad you are starting to feel this way. Up until I crashed from my depression, I was starting to feel the same way too. I was amazed that I was making good choices so easily when I was on vacation! Hopefully we can both still feel this way forever!!

Keeping it Moderate!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I've backed down on my exercise and activity a little this week. First of all, the training plan I have for walking the 5k on Saturday has me only walking 30 min a day this week so I am following it. Second, the ITB Syndrome is getting a little better with the decreased activity so I don't want to have it flare up again on Saturday. Third, I think I was going a little overboard recently and was getting overly tired from so much exercise. Resting a little has helped me relax and be more comfortable in my body and in my mind. I love losing weight and becoming fit, but I enjoy living comfortably in my body more. Part of this journey is learning to be active and enjoying it! One step at a time, I am learning new things constantly!

Good for you for recognizing that you needed to slow down! I've had to do that a few times myself, and I always feel better after doing so :)
