Walking the 5K

Sunday, April 04, 2010

My DH and I walked the 5k route at an easy pace on Friday morning just to get a baseline. I didn't want to enter if I couldn't even match the longest time from last year - which was 1 hr and 7 min. We did it in 59 min. So I guess I'll enter!!!! Hopefully, I can walk the 5 k in less time than that on the day of the race.

Is it Exercise if you Love it?

Friday, April 02, 2010

I am really enjoying being active. I am swimming, walk/jogging, spinning, weight training and counting steps. It seems like every morning when I wake up the first thing I think of doing is starting some activity. I just can't believe how much I am enjoying exercise. Yesterday I met an old friend for lunch about a mile from my work place...so I walked. Today DH and I are going to drive to the location of a 5k that is being held in our town at the end of April and we are going to see how long it will take us to walk it (without jogging). We are planning to do a bigger 5k in July, but I just found this one and want to try it. It is a very level scenic walk and sounds like fun. I'll let you know in my next blog.

Last night I went to my beginning Master's class. We had a different instructor and I really loved it. She taught me 2 new things that entirely changed my stroke. I had a lot of trouble with them and never really got the hang of it, but I could feel the difference in how I moved thru the water. I had a blast...I nearly drowned, but I had a blast and burned 533 calories in an hour.

I have convinced another friend (the one I met for coffee yesterday) to come to the gym with me and we are going to a spinning class together.

I feel so blessed to have found this program and been Sparked to activity!

I have felt this way for quite awhile...if you are like me, you find EXCUSES to do things harder for more exercise! They used to say, life begins at 40 but for me it seems to have begun at 60 (or really 59) and I feel better than I ever have before, even in my 20s. Nancy, I think it's CONTAGEOUS!

It's still exercise no matter what! We want those calories burned. But "exercise" doesn't have a negative tone anymore. You go girl!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good for you!! Isn't it amazing?! I love exercise too. Sometimes people ask how much I do each day and are surprised by the answer but to me it isn't a chore. It's not something I have to do, it's something I love and look forward to doing. Try to make me sit still! Now that's hard! LOL. Keep up the great work!!!

Exercise Buddy

Thursday, April 01, 2010

A colleague at work stopped me in the hallway yesterday to comment on my weight loss. After we talked she asked where I exercise and expressed interest in exercising with me. Another person overheard her and offered her a free pass to the Rec Center. She goes to a different gym. So....Monday after work my colleague and I are going to the gym together!

How to Stay Young

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I don't usually send out stuff like this, but I was really impressed with an email I received!

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Worry about nothing, pray about everything!!!

I Don't Understand it, But its OK!

Monday, March 29, 2010

When my grandkids were here, I exercised more than I ever had and I felt great! Jogging, Swimming, Skating, even Skiing! The next week I was exhausted...I really am 62 not 35! LOL

This last week I cut down on my exercising while staying within my calorie goals...That is until the weekend. I ate over 2000 calories Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I went to a spinning class Friday, rested on Saturday and hiked on Sunday.

Today I was down a pound! I don't get it but I like it. emoticon

Don't question it, just go with it! LOL. Seriously though, good for you. It looks like all that activity really agrees with you. And I had a weekend of higher calories too but I think sometimes you just need that to fuel all that fun stuff. Listen to your body and I'd say you're doing just fine. And I'm sure your grandkids love every minute of it :-) Have a great week!
