Spring Snow

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

The snow is lying heavily on the trees and bushes. It is glistening in the dawn. We got about 6 or 8 inches and it is just gorgeous! I couldn't resist going outside and taking a few pictures (taken in my bathrobe at 5 am from our back patio!).

We woke up to snow this morning also. It's very pretty but I'm just about done with it for this year, time to bring the sunshine and flowers please! :-)

Back to Work

Monday, March 22, 2010

I had the usual first day back at work after vacation...lots of fires to put out and tasks to catch up on. I start orienting my replacement tomorrow. My job is pretty specialized and detailed so I get to begin orientation of my replacement 8 months before I retire. The woman who has been my back up will remain my backup but she had a really hard time doing everything the week I was gone so my supervisor is going to have someone else orient as my permanent replacement.

The time is going faster than I thought it would but I am definitely ready.

Wow 8 months of training. That means you are very hard to replace. Maybe you can just stay on as the back up and have a little part time job. In either case, I know the time will fly.

Hi there, it must seem strange being able to count down the days. I agree with what LouAnne said about how work is always piled around and strange after you've been gone. I think that makes the time fly as well. We have the rest of the week left for our spring break, but it has went really fast too. I bet if we researched this, we would find that someone has studied it and given it a name.
i hope that you find some level of enjoyment at being back. Take care, Sylvia

WooHoo, 8 months and counting.........Then you'll be at the cabin all the time....I know that you can't wait, but the time will fly by. Good luck on training your replacement. That's not always easy but you'll handle it just fine.

Going back to work after vacation is usually filled with all those things that you do that no one else could do. It often makes everyone realize how much you do. Not much more time and you will be a lady of leisure and more busy than you could imagine! I don't know how I worked and got all the other things done. I do know I really enjoy having some time for myself.

I knew the time would fly by. It will fly even faster with warm weather...and as much as I don't want to see warm weather gone, for you I do so you can get OUTTA there! LOL

Home Again Home Again

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Had a great weekend despite not being able to go to the cabin. We rested on Friday. On Saturday we went to the gym in the am and I walk / jogged a 17 min mile -- a PR. I actually jogged the whole circuit of the indoor track (1/11 th of a mile) 2 times and my oldest DGD ran the circuit in 29 secs several times.

Then we worked on the weight machines for 1/2 an hour.

In the afternoon the 3 of us swam for an hour.

We spent the evening washing clothes and packing for the return home.

What a wonderful week. I'm sorry its over but we all have to go back to our lives.

PS I lost another pound! I guess it was all the exercise. AND we ate all SP recipes!

I am so glad you had such a wonderful week. I think your DGDs were probably amazed at all the things you could do with them. And I am sure they enjoyed themselves tremendously because grandma "played" with them.

Change in Plans

Saturday, March 20, 2010

We tried to drive up to the cabin yesterday morning but were unable to make it on the snow covered mountain roads so we turned around and came back home.

But we had a great quiet day at home during the snow storm.

We spent a lot of the time cooking Spark Recipes with the girls. We made Strawberry Cheesecake shakes as a treat and cole slaw and banana nut bread for supper. For the rest of the meal we had leftovers and everybody cleaned up their own dishes. We had lots of fun!

emoticon

During the week the girls have been here I have stayed within my calorie range almost every day and have actually dropped a pound. That's because we ate only healthful food most of it from SP recipes. The girls loved all the food and ate really well. Wow you can live healthfully while pleasing children's appetites.

Don't forget all the exercise you did :-)
What is coleslaw and banana nut bread? It sounds gross. But then again I probably read it wrong and they shouldn't go together, emoticon

So Much Fun!

Friday, March 19, 2010

I just can't believe how much fun my DH and I had with the DGDs and with our DS yesterday! I actually got on skis (first time in 15 years) and went on the Bunny Slope with them yesterday morning! When they moved up to the Green slopes I stayed in the Lodge with DH. These old bones couldn't handle the faster runs -- or rather falling on the faster runs! LOL

The weather was beautiful and the girls and their uncle really enjoyed spending the day together while DH and I read out on the balcony of the Lodge. Talk about happy!

I can't believe the week is almost over! I have enjoyed it so much. Being with the girls has been great because I have actually been able to be with them - skating, running, biking, swimming and now skiing. I am participating in their lives rather than just watching. I love it and I think they enjoy having an active gramma too!

We are going to the cabin for one quiet day before they have to head back to Texas. We are expecting a snow storm tonight so maybe I'll get to keep them an extra day!

Ah, I am so jealous! I've always wanted to learn how to ski, but with my back and my knee I'm not so sure it's a good idea now!

Glad to hear that you are having so much fun!

I see that plan for snow whirling around in your head. It would be mine too. I am sure the girls had a wonderful time with their new moving grandma.

What precious time with your grandkids! I wish I could have mine for a whole week. They live here in town, so that won't happen but what a gift for you that you get such a long time with them all to yourself!

Wow! Your now picture looks so much younger than your pic from 2007. You are definitely not aging!

I skied for the 1st time a couple of years ago and am impressed that you are tackling the slopes! Excellent!

My son leaves in Colorado and loves it! Hope you enjoy the rest of the season.
