Interval Walking

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

I've been really excited to be able to get out and walk the dog in daylight at 6 am for the last few mornings. I've even been jogging for 30 - 60 sec intervals and walking 2 - 4 min to rest. I really didn't believe I could ever jog, but I did. I did feel a little down however when I realized that daylight savings is coming and I wont be able to walk at 6 am for a while : (

I'm on the other end of the clock, and am so thrilled that now it will be light enough to go do water aerobics after work! emoticon

As I read your post, I was thinking about DST but wasn't gonna remind you but before you know it it will be light again for your walk.

Have a great day!

I love how the days are getting longer! I forgot that the mornings will not be so light as early. It has been beautiful here and I am walking outside too. Bet the dog is happy for the walks!!

It will only be for 4 weeks. Then you will get out at 6 am again. In the meantime you can play in the garden with your pooch to get your work out.
It is great to see the daylight at that time of morning.

I don't know your schedule but could you do an afternoon walk or perhaps evenings? If not, I dont know how big your backyard is but when I don't get home from work until late and since I am a single woman, i don't like walking in the dark at night. So, I will take my dog out in the backyard and play chase or fetch. I find that i get a workout in from chasing my dog around the backyard:)

That's pretty exciting. The only place I have jogged is in the swimming pool. I have not jogged on terra firma yet. So, congratulations. Why won't you be able to walk at 6 a.m. for a while?

One of those Hungry Days!

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Yesterday was one of my hungry days. I just felt out of sorts and hungry all day. I didn't want to be at work. I had gotten used to being at home from last week when I was home with DH after his surgery and work just seemed intolerable. I was like a pouty child. I didn't drink enough water, I ate cookies, I ate large portions....I bet you know the things I did.

Well, yesterday's passed. Today is here and today is back to normal. I don't know why I still do that every so often, but the frequency is definitely less than it used to be and the recovery takes less time than it used to. My lifestyle now is a healthful one and I choose to move on.

I am going back to work today for the first time in 3 weeks. emoticonLike you, I got used to the retired lifestyle, & really like it! I feel like I'm 3 years old, & ready to throw a tantrum. Which won't get me out of going to work, of course. I'm trying to plan so it doesn't turn into an eating free-for-all, which will only make it worse ...

I have never wished I was working since I retired! You will so enjoy it. So you had a "bad day" eating, think about all the good parts of the day like having a job, coming home to your DH, and the healthy lifestyle and choices that you can be making. No day is a bad day, they are all a gift. We all make bad choices now and then and like you we just get back on track the next day! Hugs!!

The past is past, your back on top of it now. Seems to me like your really looking forward to retirement. It's coming up soon, then I bet you'll wish you were working! Ahhhhh, No, You won't!!!!!
1 day slip up won't hurt you, it's when you don't pay attention to it, or learn from it, that's what hurts. Matter of fact as someone on here said, it might even help you. Just don't do it to often.
Love Ya.

Sounds like you're not beating yourself up about it too much, which is a good thing. I have this theory that it's actually good to have an "up" day every once in a while as it fools your body into thinking that it's not starving. Maybe there's no science in that, but it helps me forgive myself for the inevitable days that I feel like I was less than perfect!

Nancy, we do have those days but I always think of it like, EVERY "naturally thin" person I know over eats on some days and always feels that way too...so I try not to think of it as other than "normal". But the kep is getting right back to healthy (normal for us now) eating and you have already done that! Good going!

Ok, it must be a full moon or something bcz I had that day yesterday, too! My friend and I walked 4 miles in the morning and then I was just starving the rest of the day. Seems like that always happens when I have a good workout: I can't get enough food the rest of the day. Most of what I ate was ok for me but it was just the quantity.

But like you said, today is a new day and we are back to making healthy choices again. So here's to a great day today. Make most of your choices be healthy ones!

Planning

Monday, March 08, 2010

After watching the Olympics, our DGDs, ages 11 and 13, asked us if we would take them skiing. Well, of course! emoticon

Since my DH broke his wrist ice skating a week ago our DS has agreed to take a day off work and go skiing with us so I have another adult on the slope. We are going to take them up for a day of lessons and then go up another day to ski. emoticon

I also thought about ice skating. Our local ice skating rink closes for the season on Sun 3/14 and has an ice cream and ice skating party that day. One of my friends has agreed to come with us and skate with the girls. emoticon

I feel really badly that DH will have to watch instead of participate but I know he will enjoy just being with the girls.

We will probably go up to the cabin at least one night during the visit.

We will go swimming emoticon and biking too. emoticon

I can't wait!

Great plans, but that cabin picture makes me "homesick".
What a beautiful log home you have. I envy you that wonderful deck to watch the "wild" life from.
Have a great time.

First March Weekend

Sunday, March 07, 2010

I've been having a great weekend meeting up with old friends, exercising, shopping and planning for the DGD's visit next week. Today we're going to look at more carpet ... we need to replace all the carpet on our main level. Then I'm going to read and plan all day. If it gets nicer, I may take a bike ride. It was really nice yesterday so I should've done it then but I went on a 2 mile walk with DH cause he really hasn't done any physical activity since he broke his wrist last week. We really did enjoy the walk.

Well, that's it for today folks. Hope your weekend is great!

Glad to read that you and DH had a nice walk yesterday. It was beautiful here too. Still a little chilly but I manage a small walk today outside. Saw some red wing blackbirds this afternoon..I guess it must be Spring and the birds are coming back! Yea!

Another Taste

Friday, March 05, 2010

We couldn't go to the cabin again this weekend, because DH's MD said we had to stay nearby in case of post op complications after his wrist surgery. So I had another taste of what retirement will be like and I love it.

I went Spinning for 45 min at 6 am emoticon
after walking around the track for 20 min emoticon
and doing 10 min of strength training emoticon

Then DH and I had to visit periodontist emoticon
that took 2 hours.

I met a friend for lunch at a neat whole foods restaurant and had a fabulous meal. emoticon

Talked with another friend who was eating there! emoticon

DH and I went shopping. I had to take DH to the hardware store since he can't drive and I bought some new size 16 clothes. emoticon

After sparking for a while emoticon

I curled up in my recliner and started reading Stephen King's new book Under the Dome. emoticon

DH and I made supper together and now I'm Sparking again!

This is the life... emoticon
