Financial Planning

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Its been a busy week and I haven't been able to Spark as much as usual but I'm back now. The best thing I did was to visit with our financial planner and finalize the plans we have made for me to retire in December. Everything is in place and I feel confident about our decision. I am especially happy that I will be entering this new stage of my life more fit than I have ever been. We are even going to try to get me Long Term Care insurance. I was turned down a few years ago because of my health and weight status. Everything has improved so much that we are going to give it another try. I am still in the obese category and my degenerative disc disease and spinal fusion are still present so I might not get it, but we are going to try.

We share the degenerative disc disease, and I sure wish neither of us had it! I've been down for the count for a week now -- unable to walk or do other exercise, all because I sat in folding chairs at my grandkids' dance recitals. And despite two visits to the chiropractor. It feels a bit better today, maybe I'm on the road to recovery, and exercising! emoticon

Hope yours isn't bothering you at the moment!

The time between now and December will go by so quickly. I am very excited for you since I know how wonderful it is. Especially if you keep active. With the warm weather coming it will be here before you know it. emoticon emoticon

Is it Maturity or Old Age?

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Yesterday was an off day for me. I hadn't slept well for a couple of nights in a row and I was very tired. As the old saying goes - HALT when you are Hungry, Angy, Lonely or Tired. I was hungry and tired -- I ate over my limit and only did my strength training, no cardio.

Well, in my "maturity" in this program, I am putting that behind me and doing my regular routine today after a good night's sleep. I should have just gone to bed last night, but I didn't. Today, I am back on program. Older and Wiser.

Maturity rules. There is something to be said for "old age". emoticon

Winter in the Mountains

Monday, February 15, 2010

It was a cold snowy, blowy weekend at the cabin. I did trek for an hour on Saturday but it was cold, snowy and icy. I took one really hard fall on the ice so I decided not to go out on Sunday which was even colder (22), snowier and blowier than Saturday. So I sat by the fire and read on Sunday. Even without exercising on Sunday I lost 2 lbs this week.

So I read, finished entering January in our budget and started arranging our files for submitting our 2009 takes, oops I mean taxes. So it was a productive day. It was good to get home and see some of the Olympics. I really admire those athletes.

Spinning Class

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Spinning was great! I wasn't sure I could do it but I stayed thru the whole class and was soaking wet when it was over. I think I will go to this class every Friday morning before going to the cabin and go to the Master's class on Thursday evening. It's fun to try different things!

emoticon emoticon

Mmmm....what can I try next?

Swim Class

Friday, February 12, 2010

I love to swim and am an ok swimmer. So I decided to improve my stroke and went to a beginning Masters Swim Class last night. I had a ball. They were just starting a new series so last night was the first Freestyle class. All I learned was freestyle swimming posture....and wow! did my stroke improve. It was great. I had a ball and can't wait to go again next week.

Also, my old swimsuit that I have been using to swim an hour of laps every Friday morning was falling off my shoulders (It was a size 24). So I went online and checked the measurements at Speedo and ordered a size 16 lap swimming suit. It fit and felt wonderful. My shoulders were free and I didn't have to think about my swimsuit at all!

A really big thing is that I felt comfortable walking around the deck. I know I am not slim, but I felt healthy and strong in my new body and only a tiny bit self-conscious!

This program is changing my life!
