I can't believe how cold it is. I don't know if losing 40 pounds has made me feel the cold more, but I am freezing. I just want to sit in front of the fire in my snugglie and stay warm. I don't want to go out there and go to work. Oh, well, we don't always get what we want.

Last night my DH, who does all the cooking during the week, made 2 Spark People recipe banana nut bread loaves. Delicious! I am going to take one to a pot luck at work today. That way I can have a healthier dessert!

I hope you all stay warm and out of the snow!

    When I lost 40 pounds, I definitely felt the cold that first year, especially since I had been at a high weight for so long. But it has never been that cold for me again. Next year shouldn't be so bad. Exercise always heats me right up, too!

    You stay warm too and my sister used to always be hot. Since she lost some weight she is now cold all the time. :)

    I think it is partially true that we feel the cold more because of the weight lost but it is really really cold and snowy. And quite frankly I am tired of people telling me that. I choose to be cold rather than gain back weight to be warm. emoticon It's going to be a long winter. emoticon emoticon

    Nancy, they say it's cold down here in AZ.....They don't know what cold is!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep warm and bundle up.

Yum, Banana nut Bread sounds so good. Wish my DH cooked, but he barely knows how to boil water. Enjoy that pot luck.

    It is freezing here in northern Oklahoma too! We haven't had any snow yet but there was some freezing drizzle yesterday and the wind is blowing so hard the cold goes right through you. I don't have to work today so I'm staying in front of the woodstove with a good book!

    Wrap up warm and walk briskly to get warm (good exercise too!). Then you won't feel guilty when you get a lovely dessert!

    Not cold in Tennessee yet, but the wind is howling and that is supposed to usher in the lower temps. Gotta get ready to go out and walk in the blustery breeze

Back to Cardioke

I tried Jillian Michaels Boost Metabolism DVD on Exercise TV yesterday. Boy that was too much for me. I pulled my side and hurt my knee. This middle aged grannie is going back to Cardioke today.


I do think it's important to recognize my limitations. I feel so good that I want to try everything, but some exercises or activities are beyond my abilities. Sometimes I know this but want to try anyway. I guess that's ok, but when I hurt myself like I did yesterday I feel stupid. On the other hand, if I don't try I'll never know what my full abilities are. One good thing is that my DH was in the living room while I attempted to work out with the video and he said "I sure admire you, honey".

As I said - It's back to Cardioke today!

    I am hearing you loud and clear Nancy. I agree though we don't know if we don't try. We do more than others and some do more than us. It's life. But we have grown so much over these months that I think we can be proud of what we have accomplished.

    I know exactly what you mean.... Just remember that we're not as young as we like to think we are.
Be careful, yet keep on going.... When you try something new, do just a few minutes of a new routine to test it out.

Consistency and Moderation Make my Day!

I guess you do burn more calories in the cold because I did lose a pound last week. Yay me!
I seem to be pretty consistent at having a 500 calorie daily deficit and that leads to a pound a week weight loss which is great for me.

I think consistency and moderation are the 2 things that seem most important to me in this weight loss journey. When I read posts from successful sparkers that's what stands out to me. Not perfection, but cinsistency and moderation.

    You are so very right about that. It's about keeping on. If we are consistent in our pursuit it will gradually keep coming off....with a bump or two in the road to challenge us to new levels. But its all about forming that new pattern in our lives. emoticon

It was cold up in the mountains this weekend. It was 22 degrees F when we arrived Friday and 2 degrees F when we left today. Brrr. Our Vermont Castings stove kept us nice and cozy in the house when it was on but it was cold in the morning when we woke up. I did go walking in the cold and snow but I was over my calories all 3 weekend days.....Darn.... But maybe I will still have lost some at my weight in tomorrow just from trying to keep warm. What do you think?

I'll let you know tomorrow.

    I agree. Shivering produces calories burned. emoticon Not that we want to do that. It is cold here too. And we have snow this morning. But are expecting a big storm on Tuesday night. Not good timing for me. But then is it ever?

Random Musings

I think I am finally well! 3 weeks of feeling lousy, but I'm back on track. I'm back on my daily asthma meds after several years of thinking I didn't need them. I sure don't want to go thru that again so I will follow MDs orders this time. How come nurses are such bad patients!

I haven't been swimming for 3 weeks so I am really excited to swim today. I think I will just swim laps instead of doing my Swim Plan workout since I haven't been in the water for so long.

I have been thinking about finding a Red Hat group in town. I looked on line and can't find listings. Does anyone know how to find local groups?

I hope everyone is doing well with their holiday eating and exercising so far. This lifestyle change is such a big thing. Right now I don't crave any sweet treats but I know it would be easy to slip into old patterns. I'm reading all the holiday survival articles I can. emoticon

    I am so glad to hear you are feeling better. Be a good patient now and do what the dr. tells you.
I am not even thinking about holiday eating yet. I guess I should so I can be prepared and it doesn't get the best of me.
