Movin' the Bod

Yesterday I did a light strength workout in the am. I was planning to walk 15 min with Leslie after work, but I came home very tired after my first day back at work so I ate supper and was in bed asleep by 8 pm.

This am I walked the 1 mile DVD and I am quite tired and sweaty, but I did it. If I can do another mile tonight I will, but if I can't I won't. I have to watch my compulsiveness. I need to take time to get back to my fitness program. I just want it now!!!!

    Patience is not something that comes easy. You will get back to where you were but it will take a "short" time.

Well, the 3 pounds I lost while I was sick are still off! I've lost 40 pounds! I don't have an increased appetite with the prednisone and hopefully I can work all day today without having to come home because of the coughing. I am going to do a light round of strength exercises this morning and if I cough, I will stop. I walked 15 minutes slowly with Leslie Sansone last night and did fine. I bought an MP3 player (Sansdisc clip on) online last week and downloaded some 60's fitness music from Amazon last week while I was sick and used it to walk with Leslie instead of listening to her talk about the exercise (sorry Leslie!). It was a lot of fun. I also downloaded some audiobooks from our community library and actually "read" 2 books while I was sick. It was great! I really like technology!

    Wow, you even got things accomplished while you were sick. I am impressed!!!!
I have an Ipod so I know how much fun you'll have with you MP3. I can download books as well which really helps me in my eye strain issues.
Enjoy that MP3 and hope that you make it through work okay.

Slow and Easy Does It

I am really progressing! I am down 40 as of today. I reset my goal for another 20 pounds. Slow and easy does it. I was a little taken aback that my calorie goal went down to 1280 for the low point. I have NEVER eaten that little in a day even if I was sick. lol

Well, I am going to just try and work with it. It seems like every week I learn or come up with new things to improve my lifestyle. This week I figured out that if I drain off the broth from my Healthy Choice soup and replace it with water, it still tastes good and I know I have reduced the salt content. It's neat to learn new things.

I feel much better today. My cough is much looser. I think I will try to walk 10 minutes slowly with Leslie Sansone at least once. I know I have to take it slowly even though I want to go right back to where I was in my exercising.

I think I can go back to work tomorrow, but I will take it easy there too. I'm so glad I had Spark to keep me sane while I was sick!

Sitting and Losing!

I'm still coughing but I think things are loosening up. I am sure tired of sitting in my recliner. Thank goodness for Spark so I have something productive to do while I'm sitting here.

I lost another pound just by being sick. I am eating in my calorie range, not exercising (except for coughing--LOL) and I've lost 3 pounds this week. Go figure!

I hope I can go back to work on Monday. As I said yesterday -- I don't like being sick. My thighs are aching from tightening up when I cough so I think I will sit in our jacuzi tub instead of showering this am to see if that will loosen up my muscles.

    I hope you get to feeling better soon! I am so proud of you for staying in your calorie range because it is so hard to stay focused and so easy to give up when you are feeling sick! So pat yourself on the back (it might loosen things up too-lol)! Have a good Thanksgiving!

Recovery Around the Bend

I've been laid up with an exacerbation of my asthma which is usually well controlled. After the cold I had last week I just couldn't stop coughing and couldn't catch my breath. I saw a nurse practitioner on Tues and got started on prednisone and nebulizer treatments. Helped a little but still couldn't stop coughing or catch my breath. Saw my regular MD yesterday and the prednisone was increased. I can't go to the mountains this weekend because my oxygen level is really low and I haven't been able to do any activity for a whole week.

There are lessons in this. I don't like being sick. When I was a child I used to get a lot of attention when I was sick (my Mom was a nurse!) and I kind of liked it. I could be inactive (my favorite level of activity) and I could eat special treats. Well that got me up to my highest weight of 300 pounds in 1996. Now I am on a new track with my food and my activity and I have found out that my attitude about illness has taken an about turn. Thank goodness!

I have had a hard time resting like the doctor ordered - I want to move. She warned me that the prednisone could increase my appetite and said that since I was doing so well with my weight I needed to be careful. Well, right now I have very little appetite and have actually lost weight since starting the prednisone. (I think I am burning extra calories with my coughing emoticon)

Today I am moving air a little better so I am hopeful recovery is around the bend.

    I so relate to everything you said here. But right now, you need to just rest and let your body heal. I am so glad you are starting to see some improvement and I pray that if progresses even faster!

    I can just hear YOU when YOU talk with YOUR patients....

"Listen to the Dr., do as he says. Take your meds, rest, drink your fluids and you'll be better soon".

Sound familiar???
Now please, you take your own advice and be a good patient.
Seriously, I hope you are feeling better soon. No fun to be sick with the Holidays approaching and when you want to go to the mountains......

    Glad to hear you are feeling even a little better. Bet you will miss the mountains. But you always have them to go back to. Do what the doc says and glad that the meds didn't make your appetite increase.
