Heading for the Hills

We had about 14 inches of snow this week here in town. The sun is out now and it is melting, but my DH and I are heading up to the cabin with friends. I can't wait to leave but I have to swim at the Rec Center first. Since I started swimming a month or 2 ago I just need it to fill out my exercise regime.

We bought a ATV this summer with a plow on the front. This will be the first time we get to try it out on the long driveway up to our cabin.

This weekend will probably be one of sitting by the fire talking or reading and playing board games. I don't think we will be able to walk much, but we'll see.

We made a big pot of chili to take with us and have low sugar cocoa so we will stay warm in the cabin.

    It sounds like a wonderful weekend! You can keep the snow for another month if that is okay. Here in MN it has been raining off and on all week. Your weekend sounds much nicer than my dreary one here in MN.

    I'm jealous to, for I'd like to be doing just what you are doing...it's SOOOOO AWESOME in the mountains...but we have already winterized our cabin. Try snowshoeing for exercise up there, it's wonderful exercise and lots of fun unless you have a little dog that likes to sit on the back of your shoes.

Slow, Snowy Day

A lot of patients cancelled their appointments because of the snow, so we were all very slow. The day seemed to last for ever. Even though I was bored, I didn't snack and stayed well within my calorie limits.

I forgot my gloves so cleaning off the car was no fun. But, when I got home I lit the gas fire and my DH and I spent the evening reading by the fire. I slept well and got up late so I'm rushing (as fast as I can rush in the snow) off to work.

Making Choices

Yesterday was one of my "hungry days", but I handled it differently than I used to do. I was really hungry after lunch, but instead of finding the cookies that are around the office, I ate a half sandwich that was in the refrigerator from yesterday's lunch and I made myself a cup of tea. When I got home DH had made a really heavy meal for supper - ham, potato, roll with broccoli and salad so I had a small portion of the ham, 1/2 the potato and 1/2 the roll with a large serving of salad and broccoli. Then I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes after supper. I accepted the fact that my body was hungry, but I feed it nutritious extras rather than empty calories with sugar which would have probably left me more hungry. Then I used moderate exercise to increase my calorie burn. I feel like I am doing better with moderation and being aware of my body and its needs. I don't want to overdo it, but I want to lose weight.

I have a hard time with balance. I have been losing weight and feeling great, but last week I started feeling tired. I thought it was because of a long mountain hike and gave myself a few days to rest, cutting back on my exercise. I went for a long weekend visiting my DD and her family and worked out hard with her. On the way home I developed a cold sore and felt tired the next day. I walked in the park for 15 minutes and did 15 minutes on the treadmill last night which is a light day of exercise for me. I feel tired this morning and not very energetic. Did I work out too hard in Texas or am I just tired from the trip? Should I work out hard today to get back in my routine or do another light day? Having been inactive so long I don't really know how to balance my exercise. My guess is that I should just get back into my regular routine, but I just don't know.


Any suggestions?

    If you have developed a cold sore etc, it sounds like there is some sort of bacteria or virus getting into your system. I personally would work out as much as I could but let your body speak to you too. Exercise is good during colds but if it develops into something else then you need to back off. Is your appetite changing? That could tell you something too. Make sure you are getting enough carbs and protiens for your workouts.
I don't think I gave you any advice but only more questions to ponder. emoticon You will get through this Nancy. emoticon

    I jumped back in to my routine when we returned from our California trip and while the first 15 minutes seemed hard, then it was back to normal. Everyone is different, so you may need to approach it in stages. Good luck!

Home Again and on with my Energetic Life

What a wonderful weekend. I am really happy DH and I accepted my daughter's invitation to go to Texas on the spur of the moment. Before SP I would have thought "It's too much trouble. I don't have anything ready. I need time to think about it." Now, I had all the energy I needed to jump up at 8 pm Thursday and pack (including food) and take off early Thursday morning for an amazing 4 day weekend.


That is why this program is not a diet! It is a lifestyle. I am now living an energetic, happy fun filled life. When I was on diets, I obsessed about food all the time. Now I spend time planning my food, tracking my food, eating my food and purchasing it, but no time obsessing over it. All because of Spark and the decision I made to do it!
