Update on the Money Pit

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Made another trip to the new house (mp) last week. Met my sons there and we did some marathon painting, repairing, unpacking, preparing the floors to be sanded and finished by floor guy this week, did yard work, filled in spot in back yard where cement was removed (it was slanted toward the house and caused water in the basement) cleaned, argued, laughed and generally enjoyed it!

Here's the progress on the kitchen:

Because the renovations have gone so well, the move date has been moved up to early August instead of late August. That means:
I have to sell tons of stuff at my moving sale
I have to throw away tons of stuff
I have to send change of address and e-mail notices
I have to pack everything
I have to notify utilities to be turned off
I have to decide what plants to take with me
I have to eat everything in the freezer and refrigerator (good thing most of it is healthy!)
I have to track all that cardio activity
I have to say goodbye to good friends

Bitter sweet times!

Thanks for helping me through this, Sparkies! You make it a little easier! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The new place is looking good. And it's good you all took care of the possible leak in the basement.

Your list of to-dos is pretty long - and could easily cause you to feel overwhelmed.

Oh well, just start crossing things off the list (and no doubt, you'll be adding new items to the list as well.)

In my part of the country, you can arrange to get the Salvation Army to come with a truck to pick up any items you don't sell. That might help a little.

Chaos is usually the rule when it comes to moving. So go easy on yourself.

Glad you removed that cement slab. You certainly don't need water in this basement. You and your family are really moving on the renovations. The pictures of your kitchen look great.

You have put a lot of hard work into this move. My thoughts and prayers are with you while you say "see ya" to all your friends.

waiting for that list! might help you clear out a few things, maybe even a plant.
hmm? i know it's a bit of a drive to the new place, but a couple coolers wouldn't keep some stuff?

This just isn't a mp anymore. It is looking lovely and therefore that money is making it a better place. It is money going to an amazing uplift. I vote for "nh"- "new home". It looks like it will easily be your "home" not just a house.IMHO.

You and your sons have done an incredible job with this mp. I am sorry you will have to leave your friends, but you can visit or they could visit and thankfully phonecalls are usually unlimited now. Your old friends will be just a phone call away.

You will be busy but do take some breaks.

Thanks for the photos!

Moving Sale

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

My daughter and I spent the weekend preparing for a "moving sale". Unfortunately, my knee swelled up and got very sore, so for part of the time I sat and relaxed by the pool reading magazines and icing my knee. She brought boxes for me to go through.

Here is the "garage/moving/let's get rid of some stuff" sale!

There's lots more to put out, but couldn't fit it all in. So, feel free to come on over, bring your nickels and dimes and take home lots of stuff!

Let this be a lesson to all my Sparkies!! Don't keep all that stuff forever! I have donated 15 bags of things and have a lot more to go. Anything that doesn't sell in the garage sale will also go to Good Will.

Hugs and Happy summer, Sparkies!

Did you take a dip in the pool? I hope that it isn't hard to part with the stuff. I imagine that there are a lot of memories tied up with them. One friend of mine decided to take pictures of all her things before she got rid of them. The pictures brought back memories just as easily as the real object and took up a lot less space.

Moving and other stuff

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

As I am starting to pack and downsize, I am asking myself some questions. Why do I have 4 microwaves, 4 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, 4 tvs? Well, let's see, I had one microwave and one refrigerator at work and then I brought them home. I have one microwave and one refrigerator in the camper. I have one microwave in the kitchen where I live and one where I am moving. Same with dishwashers. Tvs, pretty much the same thing! Now you see why I have ended up with way tooooo much stuff!

Here is the latest picture of the kitchen at the mp:

Here's the living room with the wall to the dining room knocked out:

The floors will be refinished after the carpenter finishes installing cabinets and kitchen and bathroom flooring.

We (my son and I) spent 4 days painting hall, living room, dining room and kitchen ceilings, walls and closets. Most of them took 2 coats. Still have the bedrooms to paint.

My generous son gave me his cold to take home with me, so I plan to share it with my daughter when she comes to help this weekend. The family that sneezes, coughs and whines together, stays together!

Daisy dog is getting used to the new house and loves the back yard. Lots of room for frisbee playing!

Happy June, Sparkies!

Wow, your house is looking so lovely. Just think of all the people you can bless with all that extra stuff - and how unburdened you will feel by letting it go. I have been gathering up stuff to donate, too - I hate when things pile up (esp pounds, by the way). Hey, you could lose hundreds of pounds in one day by giving stuff away! Anyway, again, your house is looking great. Hope you get over your cold soon - my dear sons just gave me one. Tis the season, I guess. emoticon

Yes, we do collect over the years. We moved two times in two years and I left half my furniture for the people who bought the house. We finally gave away tv's that were b/w and you had to adjust with the ring around the knob. It just keeps stacking up.

The mp looks great, I think it will soon need a new name even though it is still taking money. You are doing great.

Hope you feel better and don't work too hard.

Verrrrry Interrrrrrresting!

Monday, May 23, 2011

This year, July has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens
once every 823 years. This is called money bags. Based on Chinese
Feng Shui. Kinda interesting - read on!!!

This year we're going to experience four unusual dates.

1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 and that's not all...

Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born - now add
the age you will be this year,

The results will be 111 for everyone in whole world. This is the year of
the Money!!!

Check it out, Sparkies!

Yeah, numbers are interesting for sure! I always love it when I notice the time at 1:08, 10:08, and 11:08 AM or PM (metaphysical significance).

Now this is really mind-blowing...wonder how it works:

"Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born - now add the age you will be this year. The results will be 111 for everyone in whole world. This is the year of the Money!!!"

Bright blessings,
