Stumbling Blocks

Monday, November 02, 2009

I am totally frustrated with the gym on base. where I work out. I am visiting my daughter in wichita falls texas, so we are going to the gym at sheppard air force base. I have gotten her into the whole routine, and she is losing weight , building muscle, and feeling really good.
Any way, I get to the gym Friday, start to warm up on the treadmill when this young fella comes over and says I'm sorry miss but you can't be in the gym with that top on. I had on a reebok workout top. It was sleeveless, but showed no other flesh. Evidently some general on base decided there will be no tank tops or sleeveless tops allowed in the gym anymore. Have you ever heard anything so stupid. We are in a gym for pities sake. I for one am a heavy sweater, so long sleeves seem to smother me when I work out.
I am not going to let this hinder me though. Thanks for letting me rant.
I did send a nasty comment to services on base!!!

obviously this 'general' does not work out or he wouldn't enforce such a ridiculous rule. hopefully if enough peeps speak up, this rule will be in the trash where it belongs.

i'm also with you on the sweating thing...maybe you can find thin cottoned tees and fold the sleeves up. emoticon

What a prude that general is lol! I too sweat a lot when I exert myself, so know how yucky that feels with long sleeves lol! He needs to get out of the dark ages and get with the program lol lol!

Getting out of bed today

Friday, October 02, 2009

I was very impressed that I was able to get out of bed on my own this morning after the two brutal classes I took yesterday. I ran into the instructor at the gym today, and he was surprised to see us back at the gym today. We went ahead and signed up for every Tues. and Thur to take the abs class and the kettlebell class. Wish me luck!!!

Kettle Bells

Thursday, October 01, 2009

My daughter and I took our first kettle bell class today. OMG. We got to class a little late (2 min) so the guys had taken all the 5 lb bells. We were left with 10 lb bells. It was so hard, but we stuck with it and completed the class. What a workout. we did a 30 minute ab class also. I think the ab class was harder than the kettle bell. it was fun though very very challenging

I keep hearing great things about these kettle bells. I think when my back finally decides to mend and stay strong I want to take a class or two. emoticon

I remember my first encounter with kettle bells. I did not know what they were, and one of the departments I work in is fitness. I came in and saw that someone had put these odd things on a shelf, but it was not where they belonged. I reached up and picked up a yellow one that had a 20 0n it, and, since the shelf was rather high, pulled it toward me. Wow, did that unexpected weight pull my arm down quickly! I am surprised there was no shoulder soreness the next day! Now I know what a kettle bell is, and they are in their proper place at the store--with the weights!
