Zumba and YOGA kicked my butt!

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Went to the gym last night to take in the Zumba class before yoga. The regular instructor couldn't make it so another from the other gym location came as a substitute.

Ximena (She said it's pronounces "hee MEYN ah" but with an X ) kicked my butt but good! This was no sub who went easy on the class. Ximena very helpfully said that if we found the class tough it was because it was probably the first class with 'her'. May-hap, or it could be that I hadn't been exercising regularly for a couple of weeks?

The lady behind me gamely kept going but at one point, hands on her knees, head dropped wearily, mumbled with a smile for the paramedics.

She rallied and triumphantly announced she didn't die at the end so thanked Ximena.

Then I had a 30 min wait until yoga. The hot yoga class let out so I got one of their chilled face clothes to help cool me down & recover.

Yoga class was small. Just 4 students (DH came). Another substitute teacher. And yoga kicked my butt! This one decided to work our abs and had us doing controlled leg lifts. Ack! emoticon

I had a GREAT sleep last night!

Well I packed a gym bag. Going to get outside at lunch. Even if it's just for a walk... a brisk walk. Maybe I'll jog a bit.

Fueling my mind

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Saw on tv recently, I think it was The Doctors, which reported that people who ate breakfast lost more weight. Not only that, they did better at school. Well work for me.

So here's my healthy breakfast - 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 tsp honey.

Washing it down with coffee. Gotta have my cup of joe. Then it's off to the water fountain to fill up my water bottle.

Just to had to add in lunch here:

Dark crispy lettuce, raspberries, slivered almonds, raisins, cherry tomatoes, raspberry balsamic vinegar. OMG soooooooooo good!

Zumba & yoga tonight!

3 day weekends

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Just coming off a 3 day weekend and it was glorious. So I'll only have a 4 day work week this week.

And then ANOTHER 3 day weekend. Since Canada Day is on a Sunday, the holiday will be pushed to Monday.

Another 4 day work week next week! I really could get used to that quite quickly!!

I can see why people want to do pre-retirement leave before they retire. If each weekend is always long, say you only worked 3 days a week, never working Mondays or Fridays . . . *sigh* yeah that's a nice transition into full-time retirement.

Only 6 years, 10 months, 14 days, 23 hours, 42 minutes and yada, yada

Slow and right

Monday, June 25, 2012

beats fast and wrong.

Did a little bit more long-lining today. It was quite windy outside so it made the arena sound ... um... very interesting.

I was very proud of Leo. He didn't spook. Even when wearing the driving bridle. So I didn't long-line too long. Just a little while & I put him back out with the yearlings.

Back to work tomorrow. emoticon

Horse time

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Got me some horse time today. That's two days in a row! Going for a 3rd tomorrow. Did some more long-lining. Leo was even better today with feeling the un-seen whip. He's been little scared about the whip while wearing the blinders.

Something happened in his past with a whip. And you can see it when he has the harness bridle on. So I'm taking it slow. And I have to remember my feel on the lines again. I didn't drive all winter (I rode) so I have to get my muscle memory back.

We worked on transitions halt/walk/trot/back up/side passing and weaving around cones. The more I do, the more confident I feel and I feel that transmits to Leo. And the more confident I see him become.

Confidence ... it's a good thing! emoticon

We're working on it TXGRANDMA. He was the same way with the dressage whip for riding. And the law here says closed bridles on open roads as well, it's a requirement in the show ring, even at fairs. I have driven on the road (no shows for me this year) so I must ensure he can handle the feel of the unseen.

But he's getting better. emoticon

Have you tried desensitizing him to the whip? That way, you won't have to use the blinders on him, maybe.
Confidence is a VERY good thing when working with a horse!

Confidence is a very good thing! You're right ... it only comes with practice. And a horse sure picks up on that confidence (or lack of). emoticon
