Last run of 2013

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

I braved the cold and completed the Resolution Run on December 31. I did 10/1 (run 10 minute, walk 1) with two ladies I had met during the Learn to Run clinic that we all did.

I completed 5.14 km in 39:21

And lucky me - the instructor of the clinic was giving away her treadmill. We just had to go get it. It was a monster to maneuver down 3 flights of stairs, even dismantled. But I have used it twice now when the temperature was -30C or we had freezing rain. It's going to be a great addition to my running training.

Feeling ready to go

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

I didn't run Monday as per my schedule. I had run Friday, raced a 5k Saturday and did another 4k on Sunday. Shins were complaining a bit.

So I was good to me. Massaged myself, used analgesic cream, didn't run. Now I feel ready to go again.

My co-worker who's been training with me seems to be coughing a lot though. Don't know if the cold weather he ran in last week caused probs or he's just getting a cold.

If he doesn't go at lunch, I may not as well. I have my clinic class tonight and we are bumping our running time up to 8 minutes, walking 1. So I can just do that.

I told someone that race horses, when training, aren't running full out like they do when they race. They breeze. Spurts. They are athletes. I'm not a race horse but I am an athlete. Why not give ourselves the same credit.

Train well, train smart.

My first Santa Shuffle & first 'winter' race

Saturday, December 07, 2013

I did it! I ran the whole 5k of the race and felt good doing it. At the fastest I went 5:52 and my slowest, I went 6:16 so that averaged to 6:09!!!
I ran the whole 5k in 30:47 emoticon

All the slow training is really paying off!! If I keep this up, I'll have another good race at the end of December.

I think the race course helped though. It was on clean, dry roads. The sun was shining but there was a cold wind. Temp was -3 to -6 but felt like -12C with the wind.

My co-worker who power-walked it had an awesome race too. She completed the 5k in 40 minutes!!

Good job! I registered for the YMCA's Jingle Bell run on the 14th. I started running a 5k 1-2 times a week around my neighborhood for my cardio workout but it's been sub 0 weather here in Colorado all week so I've had to settle for the elliptical and treadmill. Running outside is so much better!

Keep up the good work!

Taking a break

Friday, December 06, 2013

I WAS supposed to go running yesterday at lunch but decided against it. I ran twice on Wednesday, am planning to run tonight, have a 5k race tomorrow and also plan to run with the practice group Sunday morning. Yeah, I can take ONE day off!

Tonight will be 6 & 1s with the leader of my Wednesday night clinic. She said she'd go out at 6 pm from the store. Another clinic participant said she'd go too. I know it'll be an easy pace so I think I will join them.

I'm excited to do the Santa Shuffle tomorrow. Got my Santa hat from the dollar store! emoticon

More running

Thursday, December 05, 2013

Someone at the clinic yesterday why I was running twice a day. I said I only do that on Wednesdays because I am helping a co-worker also prepare for a 5k race that we are both doing on the 31st.

I don't feel overly taxed physically but at the same time I feel I'm getting fitter.
