 8/25 Totals:
70 mins Spinning
60 mins Step Aerobics
55 mins Tae Bo, Boot Camp
Grand Total:
185 mins.
3,834 Calories
2.309 Calories Eaten
Challenge Week Total:
Goal: 20,000 Calories
Actual: 25,216 Calories and 1379 Minutes YAY ME!!!
This challenge has been absolutely amazing for EVERYONE who participated on both teams! Regardless of the final results, we are all winners!!!
On a personal note, this challenge has been super educational for me. As a result of this seven day frenzy, I plan to incorporate the following changes into my regular habits...yes, more LIFESTYLE CHANGES.
1. Maintain regular contact with my new best friend...Billy Blanks. I'm unsure as to whether or not I lost any weight this week. Knowing how my body reacts to hard cardio weeks, I may not have; however, I am confident that I have lost some inches based on how my clothes are fitting. Plus, I am super strong. I am now able to do real jumping jacks and push ups. Not to mention I see noticeable differences in my ABS (watch out Janet)!!! Yay me!
2. Do more advanced meal planning, which means cooking more and eating less frozen meals.
3. Get more sleep for two reasons. First because it's good for me and plus I'm planning to extend the times of my regular a.m. workouts so I'll need to get up earlier.
4. Seek opportunities to try something new that may be good for me. For example I tried two new things this week that are now on my Favorite Things List (i.e. Cardio Kickbox Class at the Y and Sushi [filling yet low in calories]).
5. Continue to push myself out of my comfort zones on all levels.
STAGE 4 OF OPERATION JANET JACKSON....HERE I COME!!!! YAY ME!

ANSWER: WRONG!!!
185 mins of Cardio
55 mins. Tae Bo Boot Camp
32 mins. Stairclimber
30 mins. Elliptical
53 mins. Spinning (There's not a Friday class, I did a routine BY MYSELF!!!)
15 mins. Free-Style Dancing
3,503 Calories Burned
2,146 Calories Eaten (So Far)
Today's workout once again showed me what I'm made of.
Instead of doing the Elliptical machine and Spinning (since there's not a Spin Class on Friday nights), my original plan was to do about 2 hours of water aerobics along with the stairclimber and Tae Bo Boot Camp. But for the past few days all of the regular water aerobics enthusiasts have been complaining that they have not been feeling well and have cold-like symptoms. Considering that I have had repeated allergy attacks today along with a slight tickling in my throat, I decided to forego the pool.
So here I was in the locker room re-evaluating my plan. I checked out my workout bag to determine the night's cardio plan. I had my gel cushion but not my padded capris or shorts and of course there was no class scheduled...too bad I would need to spin, so I added spinning to the workout plan.
Then I didn't have my regular crosstrainers with me. Instead I had my "Walking the Warehouse" tennis shoes with my prescription orthotics in them (how in the heck did those end up in my gym bag?!). Working out in those would be the equivalent of working out in wooden clogs!
Oh well, at least I had my ipod and my favorite flavor of Trident gum...so off I went.
I started out on the elliptical and you know what's worse than you're feet going numb on the elliptical? Feeling like your feet are on fire. The orthotics made my feet feel like there were miniature logs in my shoes. Needless to say, I was unable to do the elliptical completely "Hands-Free", but I did it on my tip-toes...boy did my calves get a workout!
Then I went to the stairclimber (OH, how I dearly love that machine). Well the support that my orthotics gave me on that machine was incredible. I spent the majority of the time running. Just as I finished on the climber, the last aerobics class cleared out of the studio...AH THE AEROBICS ROOM WAS ALL MINE!
So I set up my bike, cranked up my ipod and started spinning like a pack of wild dogs were chasing me up a hill! What a workout! Afterwards I had a good stretch, gathered up all my belongings and was heading out the door until my song came on...MOTIVATION by T.I.
Without hesitation, I sat all my stuff in the corner then proceeded to have a dance class of one. Every time I had planned to stop another good song came on. Finally, after doing the cupid shuffle Tae Bo Style (with super high kicks) I decided to call it a night!
So after all of this I should be tired, right? Not hardly!!! I met my challenge goal of 20,000 calories burned today and there is still one day left! YAY ME!

245 mins of Cardio, Yes, that's 2-4-5 minutes of cardio in one day!!!
45 mins. Elliptical (30 mins. hands free; 15 mins. in reverse)
45 mins. Guts and Butts Aerobics Class
55 mins. Spinning
45 mins. Core Rhythms
55 mins. Tae Bo Boot Camp
SPIN THIS! DANCE THAT! KICK THIS! CRUNCH THAT! OR AS NOEILAND WOULD SAY, "CARDIO THIS!!!"
4,336 Calories Burned
2,862 Calories Eaten
Last night as I was fine-tuning today's workout plan, it was my goal to workout for 240 minutes today. So to get ready, I went to bed early, packed my lunch and gym bag, and had my Tae Bo Video all ready to go for my 5 a.m. workout. Ahhh the best laid plans....
THEN around 1 a.m. I got an emergency phone call from my best friend (I blogged about her health battles once before...7/23 "Praying and Blogging = Zero Calories). She told me about how unbearable the pain had been in her hip and was concerned that she may have had a blood clot (per a conversation she had earlier with one of the nurses at her doctor's office). She then told me that she would call me back letting me know how she needed me to help her...I could actually hear the pain in her voice...it broke my heart. I said a prayer for her on the phone then prayed more after she hung up.
While I waited for her to call me back I thought about the possible scenarios that we may have to deal with for the day and adjustments that I would need to make professionally and personally to help her out in whatever way that I could.
I decided to get up and workout just in case I was unable to complete my workout schedule as planned. So, I did 55 mins. of Tae Bo and 45 mins. of Core Rhythms while keeping a close eye on my phone. She called me back before I went to the 2nd Core Rhythms DVD. As it turned out she did need to go to the emergency room, so her husband and I worked in shifts making sure that she was taken care of.
As I was heading out the door for my shift I grabbed my work bag, gym bag (I pack it every night and set it by the door), my Migo Bottle w/ ice cold water, a healthy snack for Lisa (just in case she had taken more pain medicine on an empty stomach...which she did) and a banana for me. She was released to return home around 9am and thank GOD there were no blood clots!!! This evening when I checked on her the pain medicine was doing it's thing and she was on her way to bed (thanks CCs for praying!!!). YAY!
So, off I went to the Y to give thanks for hair that would get frizzy from sweat, limbs that were not in pain, bones that were strong, and overall good health. The more I counted my blessing the more I felt like working out. Not only did I hit my 240 minute workout goal...I exceeded it! YAY ME!

185 mins of Cardio (Tae Bo, Stairclimber, Cardio/Kickboxing Class and Water Aerobics)
3,484 Calories Burned
1,924 Calories Eaten
This challenge has released the Cardio Maniac within me! I am pushing myself to the limits and the harder I push the more cardio I'm craving. I absolutely love how I feel about myself. I feel so strong and fit. This morning while doing Tae Bo Boot Camp, I kept asking Billy..."IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?!"
Then tonight during the Cardio Kickboxing class, I was doing push-ups, jumping jacks and some kinda jumping lunges with the best of 'em. I was even able to keep up with some of the tiny high school girls who were in the class!!! YAY ME! I was having such a good time punching and kicking, I was shocked to hear the instructor say, "Okay, now let's begin our cool down." COOL DOWN...this was my warm-up!
Afterwards I had an awesome and intense workout on the stairclimber...but then again aren't all workouts on the stairclimber awesome and intense?! I just dearly love that machine!!!
Then off I went to Water Aerobics. The class was only 45 mins. long, but I decided to stay in for an extra 20, so that I would have an even 3 hour workout today to log for my team (see what I mean CARDIO MANIAC!!!). While I was in the pool working on my last twenty minutes, I was approached by four women who had a litany of questions for me...questions like:
1. How much weight have you lost this year?
2. Do you drink anything other than water?
3. What kind of food do you eat?
4. Do you ever go home, or do you live here at the Y?
4. How do you have so much energy?
5. How much weight have you lost since you were in here yesterday?
So before I realized it, I had conducted a brief 25 minute (5 minutes over the plan...see CARDIO MANIAC) workshop on proper nutrition, hydration, why you should have a support group (i.e. Spark) and of course the value of CARDIO. By the time we got out of the pool, not only were we all pumped , but they made a promise that they would see me tomorrow night. ..PLUS we all got in an extra 25 minutes of Cardio. Well of course I had them jogging with me while we were talking..too bad that they're not already members of CARDIO CONNOISSEURS...well at least not yet!!! ;)

First of all, "just the facts ma'am just the facts":
180 mins of Cardio (Stairclimber, Spinning, Water Aerobics and Tae Bo)
3,602 Calories Burned
2629 Calories Eaten
6 hours of sleep (2 more hours than I usually get)
YAY ME!!!
This Cardio challenge is motivating me to see what I am truly made of and I am learning that I am more in shape than I had even imagined. With that being said, this challenge has also helped me to see that there are still more lifestyle changes that I need to make, for the sake of balance.
One of the main areas that I need to focus on is making sure that I get enough sleep.
Last night, by the time I got home from the gym and ate dinner (it was after 10pm). I was very T-I-R-E-D (not physically exhausted or aching or anything...just sleepy). Although I had some work to do from home and of course some Sparking to do, I decided to go to bed. YAY ME! And I'm soooo glad that I did. As a result of getting a good night's sleep, I was up at 5:30 am doing workout #1 , had an awesome breakfast then got to work early to get a jump on my day. YAY ME!
