Cardio Mania Day 2~6,457 KCAL Down 13,543 to Go!!!

Overall, I am feeling great. A little sleepy but I feel really good, plus I weighed in today and I've lost 4.1lbs. since my last official weigh in. I really believe that this challenge is going to help me hit my August weight loss goal!! YAY Me!!!

Another reason that I'm feeling good is because of the energy that is running rampant among my team.

We're not all doing the SAME thing, but we're all doing SOMEthing...we're not all on the SAME level, but we're all working to get to the NEXT level. So every single minute and calorie that is spent and burned is counting towards a greater good.

This challenge is not just about pulverizing L.I.P.S. (that's a given)... It's about the CARDIO CONNOISSEURS supporting each other as we work towards challenging ourselves to maintain lifestyle changes that will make us even more fit and healthier....YAY Team! You too Snikwad!

Today began the Cardio Challenge and I am so proud of how I hard I hit it today...YAY ME!!!

First of all, I AM NOT and I repeat I AM NOT a morning person. Yet, when my alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. I jumped out of bed, put on my "workout clothes" and headed straight to my TV to do my Tae Bo Boot Camp. Afterwards I had so much energy, that I cooked, cleaned, downsized my closet (which yielded 3 large bags of casual clothes to give away!!!), Sparked and then got ready for church.

After church I visited with my family, but was watching the clock like a hawk...didn't want to be late to my 4pm Step Aerobics class (a major calorie burner for me!!!). So at 3pm, I hopped in my car to head for the Y. When I turned on the ignition, I noticed that the clock said 4:01 pm (WHAT?). I thought to myself, what is wrong w/ that thing...there must be something wrong w/ something in my car (not automotive-ly/mechanically inclined). So I pulled out my work cell phone and it said 4:01...(WHAT?)...then I pulled out my personal cell phone and it said 4:01!!! I looked at my watch and it had 3:05...I thought what in the heck is going on...did I somehow mysteriously get warped into the Twilight Zone from getting up so early?

Then it dawned on me...I had my battery replaced in my "Sunday" watch yesterday. The sales lady so graciously volunteered to set the time for me...she must have set it wrong...I had not even checked the time after she replaced the battery. So one of two things happened here:

1. This sales clerk is a secret member of the LIPS team and she set my watch an hour behind, hoping that it would cause me to miss Step Aerobics and mess up my cardio plan for the day...HMMM

OR

2. I have one of those watches that doesn't have any numbers...just tick marks...maybe it was an honest mistake...and I should have checked it before just dropping it back into my purse...HMMM

Anyway, thankfully I have a back-up plan for all of my workouts this week. So instead of doing step aerobics, I did the stairclimber (not as many calories burned as Step Aerobics--but still a good workout for me).

I have not been on this machine in over a week and oooh how I missed it. While working out, I was jamming to Kanye West, Beyonce and T.I. (so once again the folks at the Y got a free show!). Along with "walking it out" and running on the stairclimber, I was doing some upper body Tae Bo moves. Before I even realized it I had been working out for 45 minutes and decided to push it to the limits (I could hear the CARDIO CONNOISSEURS cheering me on). I rocked that thing for a full 62 minutes!!!! YAY ME!!! So that had me even more pumped to finish the rest of my scheduled workout.

Thankfully, I can say that although my plans changed, not only did I exceed my planned cardio minutes, I also exceeded my planned calories burned for the day...YAY ME!!!

At this rate, I will definitely meet and possibly exceed my 20,000 Calorie Burned Goal for the week...YAY ME!!!

So now off to bed...so that I can get enough rest to get up and BURN BABY BURN in the morning!!!

    You truly are the CC leader and we were cheering you on the whole way! I could hear the cheers to as I went to my spin class this morning and then went home to rest up for the uphill hike this evening. I feel great. My foot only hurts a little but as long as I have really good support I should be fine. YAY you for getting in your backup workout! You are still my inspiration!

Tomorrow begins the infamous "friendly" cardio challenge between my team CARDIO CONNOISSEURS and the opponents LIPS (Ladies Improving Personal Standards). I have to admit I am so pumped and my excitement is primarily due to the energy and enthusiasm that is being generated by my teammates.

CARDIO CONNOISSEURS is comprised of some of THE BEST people that you could ever meet on SP. Everyone is soooo supportive and has a motivating story to share. AND talk about determination!!! If you looked up the word tenacious in the dictionary, next to the definition you would see 8 x 10 glossy pictures of every single one of my teammates. I consider it an honor to be a part of this team.

So with all that being said, for this challenge, I'm bringing my "A" game. But I will not be alone, I have already received confirmation that my team will be FOLLOWING!!!

Sunday:

    Hi Janet.. I am so excited! I had to rush over here and tell you my wonderful news.. I was finally able to get on a set of scales today.. my first time since joining Spark.. and guess what?? I have lost 15lbs!! I am so thrilled and I know I owe a lot of that to Spark and all the tools they are providing me. That and all the peer support.. and I want to thank you so much for posting your page.. every time I look at it it gives me hope..

    I know that God brought me here to Spark people. I have no recollection of how I found this site but it is the best thing that could ever have happened to me and I thank him for that. I have met 3 women in particular who encourage me on a daily basis. They keep me accountable too and make me want to do better. No matter how difficult you think weight loss is, it actually boils down to a simple mathematical equation:
X amount of calories IN - X amount of calories OUT = X amount of calories contributing to weight gain, weight loss or weight maintenance.
If you’re trying to lose weight, your final “X” should be a negative number. But how do you know how many calories to cut each day to reach your weight loss goals? First off, you need to have a good estimate of your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the “base” amount of calories you burn each day. A very general formula you can use to estimate your BMR is to multiply your weight in pounds by 15. So, if you weigh 140 pounds, your BMR is about 2,100 calories, which means that if you consume 2,100 calories in a day, you will maintain your current weight. If you eat more than this, you will gain weight, or if you eat less than this you will lose weight. (Keep in mind that if your weight is mostly made up of fat mass, not muscle mass, you likely need fewer calories than this calculation gives. Why? The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. Conversely, the more fat you have, the less efficient your body is at burning calories.) Once you know your BMR, you then have to figure out how and where to trim extra calories. The best formula for weight loss is to try and reach a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day, every day for a week in order to lose one pound. A pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories, which is why you can lose one pound in seven days by reaching a deficit of 500 calories below your BMR for each of those days. Burn off 250 of those 500 calories with exercise and then eat 250 fewer calories and, if you stick with this formula long enough, you’ll see the weight start to come off – like magic (except it’s not).
