Back to "COOL" Challenge ~ 8/9/10-10/29/10

Today is the last day for the INDEPENDENCE CHALLENGE, it has been soooo much fun but now I'm ready to move ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

The next Self-Challenge that I would like to do was motivated by conversations that I had with my Zumba Buddy and Jewelry DIVA, JENGER2DAY. She is an educator and once school begins her life will become super hectic. So there will be a need to do advanced planning to hit both her nutrition and fitness goals.

Although I'm not going back to school per se, in 12 weeks it will be my Alma Mater's Homecoming (Western Kentucky University). So it is my plan to be in tip top shape so that I can thoroughly enjoy all of the CARDIO-Fests while rocking some of my favorites from my *old* Fall Wardrobe. In other words, I'm going "Back to Cool"! emoticon

So my plan is simple, I'm planning to get back to basics and incorporate some of the things that worked really well for me when I used the Body For Life plan in the past. I'm also planning to completely give up KRYPTONITE during these 12 weeks--no matter how I look at it, I have ZERO sense when it comes to portion control in this category...so THAT'S THAT...no more KRYPTONITE! I am also planning to do more a.m. workouts because I now have several evening conference calls that conflict with some of my favorite classes at the gym.

Okay, so that's my plan. What is your BACK TO 'COOL' Plan?

    I need in on this... still not sure where I'll be educating but unemployment has been the best thing for me. I haven't been this healthy in years. Two months off has been a huge blessing despite the money part of the deal. Need to stay active once Cool begins. emoticon

Seriously, I did not keep up with the last challenge. So I fell and I am back up to try it once again. September 13th I will begin a Diabetic nutrition and exercise program. I don't want to be the most out of shape student in class -so I will use this challenge to get it together. I will be back with my plan of action.

    Back to Cool Plan - maintain my current weigth and fitness level. I think I'm more "in danger" at this stage because of temptations. But, I won't let myself start over...so...Stay Cool!

One thing I learned about exercise is I don't have to do it everyday! 3x a week run (1 day LSD inc.) and 2 days light strength training is working fine for me.

Sensible eating will do, I must add more fruits and veggies though.

Be more positive about life is just as important...journaling everyday helps.

Spark everday! Because I could not do all the above without inspiration, motivation and encouragement from my spark friends.

    Back to School means no morning time for me. I have three girls to get ready in the morning. 10, 13 and 17. Oh ya, it's drama central at my house with hair, over crowed bathrooms and well, "I have nothing to wear"! being scream. I love it!

I did real well with the last challenge, lost 11 lbs,,,gotta brag! LOL I'll keep doing what I have been doing but kick up the workouts more. I am adding strength training this month with work out bands.

    I'm in, my plan is to just stay consistent and keep going. The summer BBQ's have been just fine and I've been staying within my limits, but my workouts haven't been as intense as they should be. I however can say that I'm WAYYYYY better then I was last year, so I'm good. emoticon

    Seems I got back to Spark when it got really COOL to get back to it.

My Back to Cool plan is to mix up my workouts and try new ones to spark my way back down to my goal weight. Also to continue my Half Marathon training to get myself into tip top shape for my next one.

Time to eliminate those comfort foods that have added to my waistline. Which means it's time to get back to my crunching craziness. To this effect, I also purchased a hula hoop to help whittle my waistline.

    My COOL PLAN is to incorporate INSANITY workouts with Couch to 5K workouts 5 days a week and on the 6th day whatever workout that I am feeling that day.

    I recently recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery and I am now getting back on track. I am tracking my food on SP and trying to stay in my nutritional ranges (I've been high in sodium in the past). On the weekends, I will write down my food in a notebook; especially if I can't log it in to SP. I am just starting out with low impact cardio and strength training. Starting out slowly. I will increase duration and intensity through the challenge. I plan to use my stars on the calendar to ** VISUALIZE** my exercise plan (silver for cardio and red for strength training.

Let's get "BACK TO COOL"!

    I am already working my plan. I've increased my daily calorie intake and am working out 5-6 days a week w GREAT success on the scales:) My plan is to keep at it so I can be in awesome shape for our October Caribbean Cruise:)

    Hi Ladies,

Well this summer, June thru Aug have been wonderful in terms of vacationing and spending time with family and friends. But the dark side is overdoing the kryptonite!!!

My excercise routines are all off schedule, but I do a lot more activities, i.e. mowing the lawn, gardening, etc...so that has not been so bad.....

Definetely need to get back on the stick to get my "Cool" back......I'm in after last trip for now to ATL next week!!!

Stay Cool and cooled off (extremely warm out this year)

    sounds like a COOL plan, good luck and I know you will do well.

I have been experimenting with my body and I am pleased with the results. I have started having dinner before my evening workouts and after my workout I will have a piece of fruit. My results have been emoticon.

My COOL plan is to go back to the basics and keep pressing toward the mark.

The INDEPENDENCE Mid-Challenge Update

I am soooo loving this challenge!!! We have two weeks in and two weeks to go and I'm loving the progress that I've already witnessed ON and OFF the scale.

First of all, I feel a gazillion times better. My energy levels are increasing, I'm in less pain and overall, I just feel good.

My CARDIO and WATER intake has been on point thanks to the PUSHES and PULLS from my accountability partners. My NUTRITION and STRENGTH-TRAINING is "better", but they are still not at they're best. But, am I stressing??? NO SIR-EEEEEE BOB! I'm pleased with the improvements that I've made, I'm re-learning to appreciate this lifestyle change and I keep reminding myself to keep it moving ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

Regarding my ON the scale and OFF the scale results to date, I am tickled PINK and GREEN. DAILY I am celebrating GOD's goodness for giving me health and strength and appreciating the fact that I AM fearfully and wonderfully made...AMEN (Psalms 139:14 KJV)! So far, I've lost 5.5 lbs. I'm sure I've lost some inches as well, because I'm down one dress size, but I've decided not to take my measurements until the conclusion of the challenge. Also, I'm super comfortable to be in the skin that I'm in...the rolls, handles, stretch marks and all...because I know that my latter will be greater than my former (Haggai 2:9 NLT)! emoticon

Oh, and I'm absolutely loving my new workout friendly hair and last Friday, I got it cut even shorter. Here's a picture of yours truly that was taken at my cousin's birthday party on 7/17:


Any-who, for the remainder of the challenge, I've decided to kick things up a notch.

Last week FOXYLOSE30 and I made a promise to strength train on a particular day. Although I was unable to make it to the gym to get my "muscle on", because I had made her a promise I lifted weights with COACH NICOLE on one of the SPARK videos...and still had an awesome workout. So, I've decided to post my "Plan A" and "Plan B" workouts for the rest of the week to hold myself accountable and to hopefully SPARK all of my accountability buddies! :)

Sunday 7/18

Plan A = Aqua Aerobics (Class was cancelled due to weather, so I went w/ Plan B)
Plan B = 45 mins. Core Rhythms Salsa Blast

Tuesday 7/20
Plan A = 3.3 mile walk w/ one of my HS Classmates/FB Accountability Partner
Plan B = iPod Dancing

Wednesday 7/21
Plan A = Lower Body Strength Training w/ my SP & FB Accountability Buddies & Zumba w/ JENGER2DAY
Plan B = Core Rhythms & Lower Body Strength Training with COACH NICOLE

Thursday 7/22
Plan A = Upper Body Strength Training w/ my SP & FB Accountability Buddies & Zumba w/ JENGER2DAY
Plan B = Home Elliptical workout & Upper Body Strength Training either with COACH NICOLE or Exercise TV

Friday 7/23
REST DAY...Kinda Sorta...LOL!
I have plans to go to an 80's Flashback Party Friday night...where one of my two favorite DJ's on the planet will be rocking the 1's and 2's!!!

I cannot believe that I'm blogging my starting information, but I feel that by being completely open with how much weight I've gained it will help me and others in the long run.

    Honesty is always the first step. Yeah, you may have gained weight back (heck we all do sometimes) but the key is NOW you are changing your life. Glad you posted your pics b/c at the end of the challenge you will be able to reflect on the old you vs the new you. You will be able to see the tremendous strides you made.

I had lost almost 50 pounds during my initial diagnosis -I've gain all back but 5 pounds, so I know how you feel. No stress no worries, you will be back at that point in due time. emoticon emoticon emoticon

My INDEPENDENCE Challenge Goals - Getting Ready for a Hot Date! ;)

In my previous blog about the INDEPENDENCE Challenge that will begin tomorrow and conclude on 8/6/10, I asked that before you go to sleep on Monday 7/5/10, determine at LEAST one goal that you would like to accomplish by the end of the challenge.

My goals are to regain consistency in the following areas:

1. Doing my quick A.M. workouts, even if it's just 5 minutes of dancing, 50 crunches or 10 REAL push ups

2. Drink at LEAST 100 oz. of water a day

3. Strength Train at LEAST three days a week along with my regular cardio routine

4. SPARK more and FACEBOOK less

And the GRAND DIVA goal of them all relates to my **HOT DATE**

I plan to be down at least one dress size so that I can comfortably rock the dress pictured below:



Now, at this point I don't YET have any definitive plans for my hot date with this dress...but at the minimum, I will get all gussied up and this dress and I will either take in some of the culture of the city or a night of extreme cardio on the dance floor! emoticon

I am sooooo ON TO THE NEXT ONE DRESS SIZE DOWN!!! emoticon

The INDEPENDENCE Challenge 7/6/10 - 8/6/10

It's hard to believe that July is already here, but it is!

We're six months into 2010 with six months remaining and it's time to evaluate where we are in relation to achieving our New Year's Goals.

My Goal for the New Year was/is to become a COMPLETE and PERFECT 10. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Well, part of becoming that COMPLETE and PERFECT 10 will be included in our INDEPENDENCE Challenge.

During this challenge, the goal will be to get back to basics from 7/6/10 - 8/6/10. Which includes:

* Drink a MINIMUM of 64 ounces of water EVERY DAY

* Eat a MINIMUM of Five (5) fruits and vegetables EVERY DAY

* Exercise at LEAST 30 mins a day Four (4) times a week EVERY WEEK

* Spin the SPARK Wheel EVERY DAY! I've noticed that sometimes just logging on to spin the Spark Wheel gives me the little push that I need to stay on track with my healthy lifestyle.

* Before you go to sleep on Monday 7/5/10, determine at LEAST one goal that you would like to accomplish by the end of the challenge. My goal will be to be down one dress size and comfortably rock my new animal print dress that matches my hair (You know how I am about MY dresses...LOL!). Then on Tuesday, 7/6/10 record your STARTING INFORMATION...It's up to you what you want to monitor or track. Yours truly will take a before picture. record my starting dress size, weight and measurements (neck, chest, upper arms, waistS, hips, thighs and calves). Feel free to capture this starting information in a private journal, SPARK Community Journal or via a SPARK Blog.

* At the conclusion of the challenge on Friday 8/6/10 record your FINAL RESULTS and compare them to your STARTING INFORMATION. Again, feel free to capture this information in a private journal, SPARK Community Journal or via a SPARK Blog.

Now here's the most critical piece of the challenge...DECLARING our INDEPENDENCE.

We all have an area in our new lifestyles, in which we either need to BUILD a habit or BREAK a habit. This challenge will give us 30+-days to do just that!!!

**INDEPENDENCE BUILDERS**
Identify at least one habit that you would like to build and maintain then find a SPARK Buddy to help hold you accountable. Your BUILDER could be anything from reading a scripture once a day to doing 10 wall push-ups a day.

For example, I need to resume my Strength Training routine. During this Challenge, NOEILAND, FOXYLOSE30 and GININARUBA (a/k/a Gin, one of my workout buddies and long-time friend...she's not a SPARKER just yet) have agreed to be my Strength Training Accountability Partners. I also need to "consistently" hit my pure water drinking goal everyday. So SLIMLADYP, JENGER2DAY, MOMSLOSINIT4_2 have agreed to be my H20 Accountability Partners. Receiving theirupdates during the day encourages me to take another sip and keep moving ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

**INDEPENDENCE BREAKERS**
Identify at least one habit that you would like to break and then find a SPARK Buddy to help hold you support you on finding an INDEPENDENT alternative. Your BREAKER could be anything from you want to stop eating fast food everyday to you want to stop texting while you're driving.

For example, during this challenge my goal is to gain control of my emotional eating. TJOI214 and LOVABLELULU have agreed to be my accountability partners. Regularly we will discuss our meal plans (even if we don't get a chance to update our SP Nutrition Trackers) and we have agreed to call/text or email each other if we are tempted to stray away from the meal plan for the day,

In closing, as with all challenges please know that the goal is to have fun and be stress-free.

For this challenge, what's most important is that you have a PLAN, get a PARTNER (whether they're on SPARK or NOT) and work your PLAN. Does that make sense?

    I have stayed on my goal the past two days. I'm back to work today, sitting at a desk for 11hrs. I made sure to leave chips and cookies at home and coins to buy some in the machine. I have a bag lunch with an apple and sandwhich and nuts for later.

No soda
No fast food
No snacking at my desk all day

Yes bag lunch
Yes walking during breaks & lunch hour & after work.
Yes Water

    @ GINA2749: You're not required to join a new team. You can follow along this challenge with any of your SP Friends from your current SP teams or among your friends list. Just let them know in what area you'll be accountabilty buddies.
