Hey DIVAs!!!

What a week this has been. Between a loved one passing, celebrating my "Sands' " (a Sorority sister that I pledged with) Bridal shower, enjoying some of the Derby festivities and of course all of the food that came along with each activity this DIVA is in desperate need to TURN UP THE HEAT during this week's challenge.

So for week five, WE (yes, you and me) will be working on slightly increasing our cardio minutes and turning up the intensity on our workouts. emoticon emoticon

**HIIT**
For those DIVAs who are ALREADY consistently exercising and want to take your "fitness and fat loss to the next level...then high intensity interval training (also known as HIIT) could be exactly what you're looking for."

Once you've read the article, schedule two days this week that you will do a HIIT workout.

**DOING FIVE FOR WEEK FIVE**
Like I said earlier, we will be turning up the CARDIO heat during this week's challenge. Part of turning up that heat will be doing a MINIMUM of 5 days of Cardio this week (5/2/10-5/8/10) and adding 5 minutes to your daily routine. For example, listed below is my workout plan. For each day that I exercise, I'm planning to add a 5-minute AB workout. Feel free to do whatever you want that will get you sweating and moving for an extra 5 minutes.

Sun: Rest emoticon, which by the way is much needed!

Mon: 45 min. Elliptical HIIT Workout + 5 mins. Abs in a Hurry
Tue: Treadmill HIIT Workout, Spinning + 5 mins. Abs in a Hurry
Wed: Zumba + 5 mins. Abs in a Hurry
Thu: Spinning or Aqua Aerobics + 5 mins. Abs in a Hurry
Fri: Rest
Sat: Spinning, Zumba + 5 mins. Abs in a Hurry

**MID-CHALLENGE ASSESSMENT**
DIVAs we are more than halfway through this challenge and it's important to do an assessment as to where we are to determine if we're still on track. Sometime during this week, please revisit your BLUEPRINT then either journal or blog about how you're doing so far. Then please reach out to myself or any of the DIVAs if you've identified an area where you may need a DIVA hand. emoticon

    Iam still here. I just got in from a weekend of celebrations with family and friends whose children had first communion. I am going to shower, get into bed and plan my cardio and meals for the week. Monday is going to be a challenge because I did not go to the grocery this weekend.

Hey DIVAs, it's time for us to move ON TO THE NEXT ONE as we work towards making over these beautiful temples that we have been blessed with called bodies.

So we've been working on The DIVA BLUEPRINT, The DIVA FOUNDATION, The DIVA CORE and now it's time to get The DIVA PIPELINE going...LITERALLY!

In our homes it is important that the plumbing is functioning properly, the same is true with the "inner-workings" of our DIVA Homes (a/k/a our bodies); therefore, this week's focus will be tracking/monitoring our FIBER, SODIUM and HEALTHY BEVERAGE intake.

Keep in mind that the emphasis of this overall challenge is to have fun (NO STRESS ALLOWED), establish long-term healthy habits and add balance.

So feel free to be creative and modify this week's goals to fit into YOUR Blueprint!

**FIBER INTAKE**
There are many benefits to adding fiber into your Nutrition Plan. Fiber aides in weight loss, plus it reduces the risk of illnesses and diseases such as Diverticulosis, Heart disease, Diabetes and Cancer.

Once you've determined your fiber intake goal, use whatever tracking method works best for you and track your intake from 4/25-5/1. emoticon

**SODIUM INTAKE**
It is possible to reduce the SALT, but not the flavor. According to the May Edition of the Top Health, the Health Promotion and Wellness Newsletter, "cutting back on salt in your diet is one way to help control blood pressure. Many 'DIVAs' consume much more salt than their bodies need--on average, at least TWELVE TIMES as much."

Then establish your daily sodium intake goal, again use whatever method works best for you to track your sodium intake during Week Four. emoticon

**HEALTHY BEVERAGE INTAKE**
There's no question about it, WATER does a body good and in order to keep the DIVA Pipeline flowing, it is important that we stay hydrated with healthy beverages that can be incorporated into our DIVA FOUNDATION.

    WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Is this a sista' plan only? I am a sister from Iowa...imagine that? Anyway, I am well and love your Blog plan for us DIVAS....I used it as a template to measure if I was on the right track...with salt, exercise, etc....it seems I am on the right track and not alone in the journey...thanks for all the time you put into this. It helps me. In fact, SPARKING for points keeps me from going off my food plan a lot and doing fitness is helping me reverse a life long habit of using exercise for punishment....so it works...this getting healthy by changing my life style...thanks for all suggestions you made.

The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge: WK3 The DIVA Core

emoticon it's hard to believe it but we're coming up on Week 3 of The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge...and I have been enjoying every single nanosecond of it! How about you?

Okay DIVAs so let's build on The DIVA BLUEPRINT and on The DIVA FOUNDATION and start working on The DIVA CORE.

If you're like most DIVAs one of the physical areas that needs some remodeling are the infamous ABS! This week we will concentrate on developing those Abs of Steel by focusing on our lower back, the obliques and the abdominals.

Over the course of the upcoming week the goal will be to incorporate a minimum of THREE days of Core (Abs, Obliques and Lower Back) Training into your fitness program. We just about have WK1 of The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge under our Rhinestone-Studded Belts and there's only one word to describe this first week "AWESOME!". Between the blogs, before pictures, the SPARK Page updates, the supportive comments and just the overall enthusiasm of the DIVAs... it has been emoticon emoticon emoticon

Now let's build on *The DIVA BLUEPRINT* (please remember to revisit the 2nd activity, "Blueprinting" from the first Week if you find yourself losing focus) and move ON TO THE NEXT ONE. For the second Week we will concentrate on building *The DIVA FOUNDATION*!

As I've been listening to feedback, researching and doing my own little experiments. One MAJOR point that the DIVAs and I seem to struggle with is the area of Nutrition. No matter how TIGHT we are on our fitness and racking up those fitness minutes, we are doing ourselves a disservice if we continue with our LOOSE nutrition/eating habits.

With that being said, this week we will work TOGETHER to fight the Fat Devil, put the Mindless Eating Monster (this is what LAURENCHELLE calls the endless snacking that we do without paying attention) in a Headlock and burn our Cardio Get Out of Jail Free Cards (this is a card that I give myself--for some reason, if I've worked out super hard then I think that I deserve all of the ice cream, cake, cookies, chips and pies that my little heart desires...NONSENSE!).

Food is not our enemy nor our crutch. We need it to fuel these machines called bodies so that we can continue to keep it moving ON TO THE NEXT ONE! As part of building the DIVA FOUNDATION we will concentrate on developing positive eating habits that we will continue to build on in the remaining weeks of The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge.

WEEK TWO: THE DIVA FOUNDATION

1. Planning (5 POINTS): Being a DIVA is hard work, but as the saying goes, "If you fail to plan...you plan to fail." Draft out an idea of what you want to accomplish in the are of Nutrition from 4/11 through 4/17 and then build your grocery list and meal plans based on your draft.

For example, next week I want to concentrate on eating at least 7 servings of Fruits and Vegetables everyday. Well the Freggie Fairy (yes, I just made that up) is not going to magically appear and stock my fridge for me. I have an idea of what I want to incorporate in each meal and I've listed them out on my Saturday grocery list.

2. Tracking (5 POINTS): Record how you're doing with your DIVA FOUNDATION 4/11 through 4/17.

Now remember, the goal is to keep this Challenge *STRESS-FREE* so you can use whatever works best for you and your schedule to track your Nutrition intake.

You can use the SP Nutrition Tracker, The QuickTrack on your Start Page, an Excel Spreadsheet, the old-fashioned way Pen and Paper, Stickers on a Calendar...it's completely up to you. For example, CARDIO CONNOISSEUR SVETSHEL has found a Nutrition plan that works for her and she is planning to only track her sugar and carbs. Again, do whatever works best for you so that you can concentrate on developing a solid DIVA FOUNDATION!

3. The DIVA REWARD (10 POINTS): Set a non-food related DIVA REWARD as to how you will celebrate your DIVA-self and your efforts to build another good habit at the conclusion of week Two.

I know that I will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen batch-cooking, making frozen meals, prepping, dicing, chopping and cleaning so as a DIVA REWARD I plan to indulge in an In-Home Manicure as a treat to my hands for all of their hard work.

The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge: WK1 The DIVA Blueprint

I have a good friend who is in management at a Home Improvement store. This is their peak time of year because Spring motivates people to renovate, remodel and make everything old new again.

During the past few weeks as I have been surfing through my friends' SP pages, looking at old pictures of myself and talking to loved ones that are with me on this lifestyle journey I have noticed a recurring theme. We are all in need of an EXTREME make-over. Not so much from the physical (weight loss) sense, but there are some habits and mindsets that need to be remodeled, so that we can truly be the DIVAs that we were designed to be. After all, we are "fearfully and wonderfully made...." (Psalms 139:14 KJV)

Sooooo here are the details for the overall challenge....

The EXTREME DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge is an 8-week challenge that will run from Monday 4/5/10 through Friday 5/28/10 (yep, we're taking this thing all the way up to Memorial Day Weekend).

Each Friday I will post a blog indicating what we'll be concentrating on for the upcoming week. At the end of the week, each DIVA will post/edit the previous post of her results on "The Extreme DIVA MAKE-OVER Challenge..." Thread. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

Points will be associated with completing the goals of the weekly challenge and we will receive SPARK Goodies as an added source of motivation (I know I'm not the only one that gets pumped when someone gives me a SPARK Goodie, right?!...LOL!). Now keep in mind that we're "working on a building" so each habit/activity that is introduced each week, we'll continue to build on it for the following weeks.

Sooooo here are the details for the first Week:

WEEK ONE: THE BLUEPRINT (You know I had to get a Jay-Z reference in there somewhere...LOL!)

1. For the first week, we will build on the basics from the MARCH MADNESS CHALLENGE (5 POINTS)- Continue to workout regularly (remember those rest days!), drink water daily (Eight-8 oz. glasses) and eat our servings of fruits/veggies daily (Four Servings at a minimum) .

2. Blueprinting (5 POINTS)- Write a Vision Statement, Journal or Blog about why you want a "Make-Over". If you need help with this I encourage you to checkout the motivational SPARK Article entitled "Write Your Own Vision Statement for Weight Loss." www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes

This article, also provides direction on how to create a vision collage...which takes us to our next point...

3. Visual Indicators (5 POINTS) -Capture before pictures (a close-up and a full body shot) and try not to take a picture looking all mopey and sad, remember we are DIVAs. Keep in mind, you are not required to share your pictures but you should have them so that you can use them to compare your progress (remember there are regular victories that we experience that may not necessarily register on the scale). And/or DIVAfy your SPARK Page to remind you of your accomplishments achieved and goals yet to be met.

4. Taking Inventory (5 POINTS)-Record your beginning weight and measurements. Taking your measurements is so, important because sometimes our progress is captured on the "tape" instead of the "ticker" (remember for the MARCH MADNESS Challenge, I didn't lose any weight, but I lost 5 inches...I'LL TAKE IT!). You can record whatever measurements you like. I usually measure my Neck, Chest, Waist, Hips, Thighs, and Upper Arms.

Now keep in mind you have from now until Friday 4/9/10 to complete the above-listed activities for WEEK ONE. Do not and I repeat DO NOT get stressed out or put unnecessary demands on yourself to get everything done in a day. Also, we will be on the honor system. Although I encourage you to use the trackers and to share your BLUEPRINT (activities two through four), it is not required.

Like the MARCH MADNESS Challenge, we will be stress-free and have fun with this challenge as we undergo our Make-Overs and Transformations together!

Please know that whether you read this blog during Week ONE or Week EIGHT it is never too late to join. Just make sure that you Complete Activities 1-4 of THE BLUEPRINT, then proceed with whatever we're doing for the current week.

I'll set the blueprints in April and when my boys are gone in May i will kick it up. We a planning a major overhaul on the house while they are gone, so i may as well include myself in that project too!
