Reason # 8 “I believe in God because without God it is impossible to establish that anything is right or wrong.”

“Without God, there is no objective standard of truth. If there is no God, we are left adrift on a sea of moral relativism without any way of agreeing on what is absolutely right and wrong. C. S. Lewis identified what he called ‘The Law of Human Nature.’ ‘First, human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way.’ This moral law is as demonstrable as natural law and requires a God to create it.

Taking this a bit further, to address the issue of moral relativism, do we really believe that our infinite, omniscient, omnipotent God, the God who created the inviolate, uncompromising, black and white natural laws, said when it came to moral law, ‘Oh, you all just do your own thing? Live any way you want to?’ Think about it. We don’t question the law of gravity for heaven’s sake. Jump off a 10-story building and you’ll accelerate at a constant rate (9.8 meters/second- 32.2ft./second) until you splat on the sidewalk. We know too, that (given standard conditions) steam always becomes water at 100 degrees centigrade and water becomes ice at 0 degrees.

The natural order God created is uncompromising and inviolate. When we ignore the natural law, people get hurt; things go wrong. Why would we think that God is indifferent to the moral law? Do we think He wants us to make up our own rules, or has He established and communicated a moral order designed to help us live together peacefully with our neighbor and find a saving, eternal relationship with Him? ”

Don Waddell – “Why I believe in God 9 non-biblical reasons”

When outsiders who have never heard of God's law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God's law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God's yes and no, right and wrong.

Romans 2:14-15 (The Message)

Then Jesus said …, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

John 8:31-32 (NKJV)

It is very interesting to find that very primitive tribes, all over the world have had the same set of basic moral laws throughout history.

Reason # 7 “I believe in God because it is the logical thing to do.”

“The French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal suggested that the wise person would, based on logic, math and probability, ‘bet on God.’ If Christians are wrong and there is no God, we have lost nothing. If, however; we bet that He is not (or we don’t bet at all), and He is, we have lost everything. Pascal said, ‘Wager then unhesitatingly that God is.’ ”

Don Waddell – “Why I believe in God 9 non-biblical reasons”

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:8-9 (NIV)

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.

Proverbs 3:18 (NLT)

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

My English professor in college once said, "I'd rather believe in heaven and hell and they don't exist, than to not believe and they do". God is.

Reason # 6 “I believe in God because life is incredibly short, and I do not believe that our lives are meaningless.”

“If we are to live without God we must accept that life is meaningless-that we live for a short time and then we die and return to nothingness. Even the existential philosophers admit this. The prominent atheist Bertrand Russell said, ‘Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.’ He elaborated eloquently and honestly admitting that his atheism leads inevitably to a life of hopelessness and despair. When I went through my period of disbelief, it was the atheists who helped me back to my faith in God by clearly articulating what life is like without a belief in God. If there is nothing more than what we accomplish in our 79.6 years on Earth, then life has no meaning, no greater purpose, no nobility. Without God, life makes no sense. I choose to believe that there is a God; that the choices we make have eternal consequences and that life has meaning.”

Don Waddell – “Why I believe in God 9 non-biblical reasons”

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, God had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.

At the Finish Line in record time (well at least for me). It usually takes me between 65 minutes or more to walk 5k, my goal was to do it in an hour and I met my goal...YAY! It was also my goal to raise $500, to date I've raised $295 YAY AGAIN!!!

Way to challenge yourself and walk that 5k in your fastest time, in honor of your friend. Those are hilarious shots of you "with" JayZ and the other performer. You and your sister look very different. That's a cool angle that the picture of you dancing was taken from.

I love all your new pics and seeing all the things you have been doing. Thanks for sharing them!! Congrats on doing the walk in record time!! I am glad you were able to see the impact that Lisa had on other peoples lives... her memory and strength wil always be apart of people.
I took my new dog for a walk today and I actually jogged for a little bit several times. That was quite a miles stone for me... I have no desire to BE a runner.... but it is nice to know that if I feel like running I can. So I guess that is something I will do from time to time to boost my ego and motivate myself.

Reason # 5 “I believe in God because we live in a complex, intricate, interdependent world of design.”

“As one of the world’s foremost space scientists, Dr. Werner von Braun said, ‘Anything as well ordered and perfectly created as is our earth and universe must have a Maker, a Master Designer. Anything so orderly, so perfect, so precisely balanced, so majestic as this creation can only be the product of a Divine idea…there must be a Maker; there can be no other way.’ If you have been reading much in secular magazines, you are aware that more and more scientists are espousing the idea that the universe could not have come about by accident, but rather is the product of an Intelligent Design, a Master Designer.”

Don Waddell – “Why I believe in God 9 non-biblical reasons”

Look up to the skies. Who created all these stars? He leads out the army of heaven one by one and calls all the stars by name. Because he is strong and powerful, not one of them is missing.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
