Another ANTI-FAILURE Formula: Week 1 Update

I am loving the workbook that I blogged about on 11/15/08.

In the first week, I have lost 2.5 lbs and a total of 3.25 inches (1.25 inches from my waist alone). Seeing my nutrition and fitness plans at a weekly glance really helps to keep me on task and helps keep me focused when I'm tempted to stray/cheat/wolf down an entire box of Little Debbie Oatmeal pies at work.

To anyone who is struggling or has hit a plateau, I encourage you to re-evaluate your plan, it may be time to do some tweeking or make some type of update.

Whether it's using the trackers here on Spark, or using the Streaks or doing like we do it on the CARDIO CONNOISSEURS team and just simply PUT IT ON PAPER (we use a thread to encourage each other to do our workouts and try different types of Cardio).

Keeping your goals in FRONT of you, having your plans BEHIND you, along with having your SP friends BESIDE you, will help you to reach your goals ONE pound and/or ONE inch at a time!!! Trust me!

    I have to totally agree with you on this one. I constantly write down my goals and plans and I surround my self with support (as you can tell). A 2.5 lb lost and 3.25 inches gone from you waist shows that this plan really does work!

MY Anti-Failure Formula

As the old addage goes, "If you fail to plan, then plan to fail!" And that is what exactly happened to me for the past two weeks while I've been unable to SPARK. Life in general has been chaotic and I have allowed all of the STUFF that's been popping up affect both my eating habits and fitness routine.

I am a planner by nature. I make lists, I use at least four different planners/time-management tools and have trackers for my trackers. So, I asked myself what happened? I allowed the stuff to pull me under, zap my energy and I maintained my plans of everything except the two most crucial plans....my intake and output. Well no more...and I mean it!!!

This weekend I created an Excel workbook with formulas that calculates every calorie consumed and burned. Don't get me wrong, I love the trackers on SP, but when I'm cramped for time doing advanced tracking is sometimes a challenge for me. And with the Holidays and other STUFF that's coming up, I simply CANNOT AFFORD TO FAIL!

In my WONDERFUL WORKBOOK, I have all types of forumulated worksheets and I am able to forecast my meal plans and workout routines all the way until the end of the year. Now I realize that there may be a need to tweak some entries as things go along to avoid things becoming redundant/mundane...but I believe this is what will work for me.

So I will rely more on my workbook for tracking and will use my SP time to be more active on the threads, because without a doubt SUPPORT is an important part of my anti-failure formula.

I've come to far to turn back now and FAILURE is NOT an option!!!

    Glad you are back on track. Hey I would be the first to say it is time consuming to track here also. I have a pad and paper, and I work on it first them I come here and post what ate and my exercise. some already beat me to punch. They ask to see these spreadsheets and calenders and I agree they could help some of us. Lord knows we all need help. Keep going!!!

    WOW that is an understatement. I am so excited I am not old enough to remember picking cotton but I do remember drinking water from the colored water fountain. I sat at this computer typing and glancing at the news crying like a baby. I still can not believe it. I am still in Awe!! Our God is sooooo awesome. No looking back onward in Jesus name!!! A close friend, talented writer and member of my church regularly publishes motivational emails entitled "Thought for the Day". Today's thought talks about the best exercise ever and that's exercising the right to vote. This Tuesday, along with your regular exercise...don't forget to exercise your right to vote!!!!

    I am Canadian so not able to vote for "THAT ONE", I would if I could. I have been active on our elections and campaigning for the right one. Too bad too many that need to vote don't understand and don't vote at all!

My daughter, who is in college in California, made sure to get her mail-in ballot from Colorado (which is a swing state, and where her vote will mean more).

I agree completely! Christians (and everyone one else as well) need to vote while we still have a voice! Christianity isn't part of the secret service, so let's be heard people! Woohoo! Two words that I would use to fill in the blank are:



So this past Sunday was the American Cancer Society, 5K Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. My team, which consisted of my Co-workers, Sorority Sisters, Church Members and Lisa's Co-workers...well in summary, a bunch of friends--proudly walked in her honor.

In some way, shape, form or fashion cancer has touched all of our lives...of course through the Lisa experience, but unfortunately through other personal encounters.

For example, one of the captains has lost both of her parents within the past year and a half to cancer PLUS she has a sister who's a breast cancer survivor. The other captain lost her mother to breast cancer when she was an infant and the vendor who sponsored our shirts lost his teenage sister to brain cancer. One of my church members who walked with us is a breast cancer survivor and a sorority sister who walked with us is a 13-year cancer survivor.

Yes, I would love to knock cancer completely down. And I know that the 13,000+ people who participated in the walk on Sunday would like to do the same. In the meanwhile, the $2,000+ that our team raised delivered a sucker punch to that disease. Or at least a right HOOK (thanks to Jay, Brandy and the wonderfully awesome people at AIT Worldwide Logistics for their support and sponsorship)!!!

...KNOCKOUT CALORIES (or at least cut 'em down)...

Last October at one of my favorite hangouts (the Estee Lauder counter in the mall), they were passing out little bookmarks with seven easy tips to follow for good breast health. My hope, prayer and focus is to place even more emphasis on Tip #4:

#1: DON'T SMOKE. Don't start. Or quit if you do, to reduce your risk.

#2: EXERCISE. Find a sport or activity you like and do it regularly.

#3: EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. The fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients may help reduce the risk of breast and some other cancers.

#4: MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT. Excess weight has been linked to a higher risk of breast cancer.

#5: REDUCE STRESS IN YOUR LIFE. It may be beneficial to the immune system and help reduce the risk of some diseases.

#6: GIVE YOURSELF REGULAR BREAST SELF EXAMS. Report any changes to your doctor right away.

#7: GET SCREENED. Ask your doctor when and how often you should get screened.

    Way to go Deondra getting some exercise and helping fight a very deadly disease. I know many women who are Breast Cancer survivors due to early detection.

    wow that is awesome thanks for posting this. A good friend and co-worker is a recent breast cancer survivor and we both walked in the St.Louis Susan G Komen breast cancer walk this year. It was amazing to see such a huge turn out and to know that that many people are affected by cancer it really put it into perspective for me.

    WOW that is awesome!!! Walking for worthy cause. I vow to knock out this extra weight that have struggling to lose I can not say by new years but hopeful by marchish. The battle is on. I heard that being over weight attracks cancer. That thing has to go!!! I am with you!!!!!!!!
