Today isn't even half over yet and it's proving to be hilarious. First my stupid dog ran out the front door as I was leaving for my karate class. He's a jack russell shelti mix and is quite a bit faster than I am. With the help of my husband (in a car) and my neighbor's son we caught him.
Luckily I wasn't late for class, because I am insane about being early so I had plenty of time, but pulled my calf muscle chasing the dog...(in my head I'm still cursing A LOT). I am proud of myself one for running as fast as I did, didn't know I had it in me, and two for still going to class. It would have been an real easy out to skip it and use the situation as an excuse, but I didn't.
That leads to the next part of this epic day, class... So it's pretty normal, we warm up even though I was in pain I still did everything with the class. Small group of people so I get paired with a Sempi (2nd degree black belt). Awesome, a 17 year old girl who has been at this for 10 years. She was really nice but didn't hold back in her kicks one bit.
I survived more than half the class, my leg is screaming in pain but I'm just blocking it out. Then Deshi thinks for a minute and gives us options for the last half. Sparring or dive rolls - i've not done either, but before I know what's happening the class votes for dive rolls. Since I was the only white belt my opinion didn't really count anyway either way it was going to new to me.
I learned at a young age that I am not the "rolling" type, even when I was fit I didn't do any gymnastic type activity. The first one was pretty much a somersault but over your shoulder. Then after failing at each attempt of those I had to figure out how to do a reverse roll. Deshi comes down to my side of the mat and shows me, "you know just sit down, throw your feet up to the ceiling, then rotate your hips so your feet go back behind you and let your body follow." I just stare at him for a few seconds and ask "what makes you think that I can do that." He assures me and tells me to just try. So I do, pretty much landing on my side, my arm, and of course my face. Luckily my glasses didn't break. Overall a fun class, now I have something new to practice at home.

So I got my TAA letter today (trade adjustment act). I was recently laid off at the end of June and since my job was outsourced I may be eligible for some extra benefits. The one I'm most excited about is education options. I won't know much more until closer to the end of the month, so I have to keep myself busy until then.
I haven't done monthly goals in quite a while, seeing others set up their goals has motivated me. I'm feeling really good I'm down about 10lbs since starting cage fitness and about 5lbs since karate classes have begun. I'm pretty sure I've converted some fat to muscle so I'm not too upset about the low numbers. Goals below :
Karate classes 3 times a week
Complete class "warm ups" daily (without passing out/crying/whining)
Cage Fitness 2 times a week
Practice Karate at home 5 times a week (with and without kids)
Complete the 5k track walk/jog/run (crawl if need be) 1-2 times per week
Do at home workouts with my kids 3 times a week (plyo, strength, cardio, etc)
the kids pretty much just sing and dance while I actually work out, i don't trust a 6 and 4 year old with weights or bands
Stay within calorie goals per day 5 times a week
Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day
Steal husband's bike and re-learn how to not fall off of it
Isabel Green Belt graduation end of month
TAA meeting 8/22
Prepare for back to school for Isabel (woot 1st grade!)
I've already started to measure hips, waist, thigh, upper arm weekly - i will continue to do that - goal to get another 2 inches off hips/waist and 1 inch off rest by end of month
UPDATED change from monthly to bi-weekly based on today's results inches are flying off
Tomorrow I'm going to assess how many sit-ups/push-ups/jumping jacks I can do in a minute time frame for each exercise and set up some goals around increasing my amounts.
August will be busy, but I'm motivated and have the time - might as well make the most of it.

Wow today was my first Karate class and it was AWESOME! My husband came too and he had a fantastic time as well.
We started with "warm ups" - I'm going to list them below for my benefit so I can start practicing them. So I was ready to crash after the warm-up, but others appeared to have some trouble with the push-ups making me feel a little better about myself. I however was beat red and having trouble catching my breath.
I was partnered with an orange belt teenager, luckily she attends the cage fitness class that I go to and she knew it was my first class. She helped me a lot and was very encouraging. I did okay the class was all different belt levels so it was hard to not get distracted by what the Deshi was teaching the other students cause it was sooo cool.
The end of class we had some extra time so the class elected to practice their nunchuck technique. My daughter is an orange belt in the kids class but hasn't used hers much so I was not very familiar, I'm just happy I didn't hit myself in the head. Deshi said we did a great job, especially since it was our first class :)
Tomorrow cage fitness, Saturday class number 2!
20 (3 count) jumping jacks
10 Toe Touches (toe, belt, overhead)
various stretching (lunge, leg, neck etc)
plank (3 sets one normal, and one on each side (those sucked!)
30 push-ups (2 sets of 15)
45 sit-ups (3 sets of various types and reps - NOT A FAN)
10 rising kicks
10 high knees
10 inside/outside knee lifts
10 butt kickers
5 jumping knee tuck
there may be more but I possibly blacked out at this point :)

So it's been forever since I've logged in, but I'm feeling motivated once again.
My kids are a bit older now and it is getting easier to exercise with them, instead of waiting for time after they go to sleep.
I've been going to Cage Fitness classes at my kids Karate school and I love it! It's 5, 5 minute rounds with small breaks between. It's all different exercises based on mixed martial arts. Last week my husband and I decided to sign up for the adult martial arts classes. Our first class is tomorrow.
So much has changed this last year, but all for the better and I'm ready for a fresh start.

This last month or so has gone by so quickly. I feel a bit overwhelmed from life. Husband working a new schedule and an upcoming change come January is weighing on my mind. My schedule changes in December but I don't know yet what it will be. My oldest is loving kindergarten, but the additional routine changes is really hard. The good news i've only fluxuated about 5 lbs or so so I haven't failed, just not on track. Excercising is impossible lately, but working on finding a solution. Just bought a juicer since I can't seem to get 10 minutes during a 12 hour work day to eat and when i do it's whatever is around. I'm optimistic, but feel very challenged.
