Update

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

I am working long hours still. I am getting in exercise when I can and as much as I can. I still do not have phone or internet service from our small temp. place. So, I check SP stuff from work and that is not much. Also, I can get internet from our car on my laptop from outside the community center. I am very committed to keeping up with SP, but it is hard. I appreciate the understanding until we move into our new place the middle of December.

God is faithful. My hubby found out he will be full-time counselor at the High School starting on Monday. I am praying he'll stay healthy enough to work. God's timing is always best. I am always amazed at how He provides for us constantly. He is an awesome God! And you are awesome friends my SP buddies!

Just check in when you can! I love to know what is going on in your world.

Praise God for the counselor job for your hubby!

Once again, my mind goes to Jeremiah 29:11 - a verse I've been clinging to the last weeks.

Be blessed!

My trip to Trier

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Trier is the oldest city in Germany. It is 1200 years older than Rome. There are parts of buildings from that era that are still standing. I walked up to the top of Port Nigra yesterday and took some pictures of the countryside. It was gorgeous.
My hubby and walked all over that city exploring.
Here are just a few of my photos.

Thanks for sharing tidbits with us. I'll probably never set foot in Germany, so I love seeing pics from a friend who is living there.

The seasons there probably run about the same as ours here, don't they?

I love these German bike paths

Saturday, October 23, 2010

I have been riding my hybrid bike since moving to Germany. The cobblestone road would not be the best on my road bike. Plus it is still in storage until we get our house in December.
I know I am getting better workouts too since the hybrid weighs 34 pounds rather than 17 like the road bike. The bike paths here are usually smooth and many times they are paved. I am able to hop on my bike and in an hour ride through 3-4 villages. The path I enjoy the most right now parallels a railroad track. I still have to keep a watchful eye because walkers use the paths too. The usually have dogs on leashes too. The dog have never bothered me like they did in the US. I enjoy not worrying about cars hitting me or coming too close to me while I am riding my bike. It is so much more relaxing to ride on bike paths rather than the road.
The scenery and views are spectacular in their beauty. I make a real effort to ride at least 3 times a week. One night I was so cold despite my layers and my full gloves. It was only 40 degrees and pedaling did not keep me warm either. Pedaling on bike paths is preferable now ! emoticon

I'm envious. The Netherlands is very bike-friendly as well.

The place we stayed at in Canada recently had bike paths and it made me wish I had packed my bike with me.

So glad you are enjoying what you have available to you. I, too, am trying to walk three times per week. Just not finding it in me to do more right now, plus with added responsibilities since Mom's death.

Love reading your updates! Have a wonderful week.

The European generally speaking has a much different perspective when it comes to bicycling. It is more a mode of transportation than a means of recreation. I would like to do more bike commuting - but I don't feel it is safe - and I am not sure I want to be biking on the sidewalks.

Your bike rides must be very scenic as you travel around the villages...I understand what you mean about dressing in layers with gloves and still being cold and riding bike paths in the colder weather. It sounds as if the weather might be cooler this time of the year than in Michigan...Today it was around 60 degrees but hubby and I decided to take our shi-poo for a walk/jog through the park. You have motivated me to keep riding even in the colder weather! Biking strengthens my hips and is a good change from walking and jogging.

What a great way to extend your riding season!
I love cycling on bike paths too... NO TRAFFIC is the biggest reason. Anchorage drivers are not very "bike friendly" They don't/won't put their dogs on leash either, so that tends to be a problem. emoticon

  Hi Sandy!
My DH bought me a new bike a few months ago and I am riding almost daily. I ride it to work and on the local bike paths in Billings, MT. I liked hearing about you riding on your paths and going from village to village! I have had the privilege of visiting a friend in a small village outside of Zurich several times. I love the beauty of the villages!
I am trying to get in as much biking as possible before the snow flies here! Last year we had our first blast of snow and cold weather the first week of October. None yet this year, although the weatherman is predicting freezing weather next week.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your bike rides and the beautiful scenery and the ability to ride!!
Hugs, Ritarose

My new life

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

I have gone through many changes since July when we moved to Germany. I have learned to live with less since living in temporary quarters for so long. Now I can cook with less pots, pans, and dishes to get dinner on the table. I am not dependant on the daily news channel or weather report. I can't check my email on a whim or pick up the phone and call family. I jump on my bike and ride off through German villages without fear. I just pedal away and turn my bike around and ride back to our little place. I am sleeping better now even on the the lump borrowed bed. My school now has 941 students. I am working longer hours than I did in the states, but I do not begrudge the time. It just takes longer to get the job done since it is such a big school. My school email multiplies like rabbits now.
I am praying and trusting God to take care of every aspect of my life. My family needs and school concerns are left to Him. God took me out of my comfort zone to bring me to a closer walk with Him. I am thankful for His providence in my life.

You will be amazed at the culture shock you will feel when you come back to the States! You do adjust to the simpler life, and learn to love it. Also...if you have Deutsch telekom, there is a flat rate for calling back to the States and it is cheap. I could call home to Tennesse for cheaper than I could call someone in Germany (phone bill around 50 euro/month.) You might want to check it out. Have you found any of the bike trails yet? They are awesome.

I am finding all the "stuff" around me has become a burden and as you say we can adjust with less. Sounds like you are taking a day at a time and that is good. So good to hear that you are sleeping better. May God bless you each day with wisdom and love.

Amen. Isn't it wonderful what we can handle with God's grace and mercy which is new every morning.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you, and I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes. Ezekiel 36:26-27

One day at a time dear Lord....

Have a blessed one. It's about 2:30 P.M. there and 8:30 a.m. here. emoticon Praise Him!!!!! Your emoticon
