20 miles again on my bike

Saturday, April 03, 2010

The day started out rainy, but it cleared up before lunch. I raked the leaves out of my flower beds for an hour with some breaks for stretches and shoulder rolls. Later I loaded my old bike and took off to ride in the country. I chose a route I have used many times in the past.
I started out slowly, but was able to do several faster intervals. I rode from TN. to KY. and back today. I was not as fast as I have been, but not as slow either. I was more cautious if I heard or saw a car with my mirror approaching me from behind. It was a gorgeous day and I really enjoyed being outside. My shoulder is not hurting much due to my efforts today. I am positive that I am well on the mend.
Tomorrow I leave after services for Texas. I am going to meet mr first grand daughter. She is two weeks old and of course a beauty. I will take pictures to share when I get home next weekend.
Happy Easter to all of my SP friends. Be blessed this season. I know I will! Jesus is the reason for Easter!

Wow..you are one resilient gal! Congrats on your ride and your granddaughter. What a thrill for you!

What kind of mirror do you use on your bike...on the handlebars or on your helmet? I have a hard time turning around to see if cars are coming...so am considering a mirror.

Easter is a special day... one of great gratitude. Celebrate!

Doctor visit

Monday, March 29, 2010

I went to the doctor at 4 pm and got into the room at 6 pm. I did not waste my time since I took the Germany driver's license manual with me. It was 99 pages long. I read the whole thing in the two hours that I waited. The good news is that my body is healing well on its own. The doctor said I would NOT need any physical therapy. I am only to return to him if my shoulder starts makes grinding or popping noises. This was great news for me since I don't have time for PT appointments. The scar on my forehead has healed exceptionally well too.
I am so pleased!!!!
Tonight I exercised for over an hour, but I took it easy with the injured arm. I added resistance bands too. I am sore, but not overly much. I plan to go slowly on adding any weights to the sore shoulder/arm because I don't want any set backs.

Great news on the doctor's report; and good thinking to make such wise use of your time in a situation that otherwise could be wasted time, or worse, stirring up anger within.

Exercising again

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Well, it's been over two weeks since I have done any kind of exercising. I have been healing from my injuries, and I know I have gained weight since I haven't burned any calories. Tonight I decied to at least try some lower body exercises. I took it easy and did a Prevention cardio DVD and Coach Nicoles' calf hops and squats, glutes videos. I could feel the pain in my shoulder, but it was not unbearable. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I might try a walk/jog. I just can't do nothing this spring.
Onward and upward! emoticon emoticon

Don't give new meaning to 'no pain, no gain'....and like the nurse says - listen to your body.

Enjoy the fresh air - get out there. That will feel good in itself!

Continued mending!!

Be careful.. there's a fine line between challenging yourself and pushing yourself over the line... listen carefully to your body.. and don't over due it... I'm a nurse, I get to give instructions like that.. LOL

So, glad you're feeling well enough to challenge yourself though!

Hurting shoulder

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

My shoulder has hurt constantly today and tonight. My eye is better, but definitely not my shoulder. I was too quick to think I had recovered so soon. I will need to ice it tonight to hopefully get some relief.
Thanks for the concerns!

You are a strong woman, but not invincible. Give yourself time to heal. So sorry that you are in so much pain. I know this feels like a real setback in your plans. I haven't been sparking much, so I probably missed some of your blogs. Have you been able to work?

After my dh's multiple injuries and surgeries and his expectations that he'd be healed sooner, an RN finally got in his face and said, "Your body is working so hard to heal and fight off infection and recover from this attack on your body. The least you could do is help it heal by not demanding that it function as if nothing has happened to it." Good food for thought. Sending prayers for patience. emoticon

Monday reports

Monday, March 22, 2010

My old body is healing much more quickly than I ever expected it to. My shoulder still hurts, but it is so much better. My right eye now looks bad in the white part of it. It is bright red. It was fine when I went to get my eyes tested and order my new glasses on Friday. Today I woke up with it red. I know it isn't pink eye. But??
This afternoon we made another trip to the hubby's specialist at the VA. He got good reports from all and the go ahead for our move to Germany. This is an answer to our prayers too.
I am thankful that God continues to bless us daily.
My bike will be repaired on Thursday, but I won't ride until maybe on Saturday. BUT-not in the neighborhood that I had the accident. I might take my hybrid out to the country for a short ride. I so need to exercise!

Glad your dh had the go ahead.

Well everything is coming up roses for you, isn't it. Healing, riding, moving just like I believe is in God's plan for you. You send praises up and the blessing are bound to come down working together for your good because you love the LORD and keep his commandments. Can't wait to hear about your ride on Sunday.

More Blessings to you!

I bet your body is healing faster because you're healthier than you've ever been in your life! That's a better a reward than some finicky scale showing phony numbers (notice any sarcasm there?LOL) Am thrilled that you're doing so well...truly a blessing. I went for 2 bike rides today and going again tomorrow while dh goes to baseball game! YAY. You've infected me with the biking bug! emoticon

I am so glad you are healing and almost ready to get back to exercise. I's avoid that place, too. Bad karma! And to get the go-ahead for your move is fantastic. All those little details to
take care of and make sure are completed in time!
Now that the weather is finally nicer, I am out an about more at the farm and outside, raking the yard. Good cardio and much more fun that scooping snow LOL!
Have a wonderful evening and I hope the weather is extra special for your bike ride! emoticon
